Social studies encompasses multiple disciplines that are combined into lessons to provide students opportunities for greater inquiry about major world events and issues. Educators draw from subjects like history, geography, and economics. Geography lessons examine how physical features and natural resources influence civilizations. Economics lessons cover concepts like supply and demand. World history explores the rise and fall of classical empires and technological developments. Teachers use diverse approaches like learner-centered, where students discover solutions; society-centered, focusing on improving society; and knowledge-centered, ensuring access to powerful knowledge across disciplines. The primary goal is to help students make informed decisions as citizens.
The growing popularity of STEM programs and the need for its implication in the entire world, points towards a new way of learning and developing skills amongst the students. Regardless of this increased attention to STEM education worldwide, there is considerable uncertainty as to what constitutes STEM education and what it means in terms of curriculum and student outcomes. The document provides a first-person account of the author's experience living in Pilsen, a neighborhood in Chicago, during a semester abroad. Initially, the author did not like Pilsen due to its worn-down architecture, graffiti, and reputation for crime. However, through spending time exploring the area on a daily basis, the author came to appreciate Pilsen's vibrant culture, street vendors, music, murals, and sense of community. The author learned to overcome their initial prejudice towards the neighborhood and began to see Pilsen as a lively artistic exhibition rather than an empty or unsafe place.

The document introduces Citizen Science, a mobile platform that aims to enhance STEM learning for young people. It does this through fun experiments and challenges that students can complete using their mobile devices. Data collected is shared with scientific institutions. Students earn points to redeem for rewards. The platform benefits students by making STEM engaging and linking to careers. It benefits teachers, researchers, and governments by enhancing education and providing data. An example is given of its use in the United Arab Emirates to develop STEM skills and careers in the Middle East. The goal is to involve 500 million young people globally to solve world problems through science.
The document summarizes the role of SSH (social sciences and humanities) at Ca' Foscari University of Venice. It discusses flagship initiatives like the Center for Humanities and Social Change which focuses on topics such as misinformation spreading and social inequalities. It also outlines EU-funded mobility programs with other UNIMED universities, international credit mobility projects, and capacity building programs in southern Mediterranean countries.
Co curricular activities in social sciencemuneera1994
Co-curricular activities play an important role in effectively teaching social science by supplementing classroom teaching and sparking students' interest in the subject. Some co-curricular activities the document outlines that social science teachers can organize include educational visits, social surveys, bulletin boards, magazines, dramas, exhibitions, collaborating with NGOs, street shows, and using community resources. Educational visits allow students to learn firsthand about historical sites, museums, government offices, and production facilities. Social surveys train students how to conduct field research and collect quantitative and qualitative data on social issues. Bulletin boards and magazines provide information and allow students to write original works. Dramas and street shows can raise awareness of social problems.
