The G-HAT study used data from the WISE telescope to search for signs of intelligent life by looking for waste heat signatures from advanced civilizations. The study analyzed thermal images of galaxies to classify civilizations based on their efficiency in using captured starlight. However, the preliminary search of nearby regions of the universe found no evidence of galaxy-spanning civilizations, suggesting humans may be the only intelligent life in our local area. Further studies may expand the search area and look for less advanced civilizations.
