The Rebel’s Handbook A rebel's guidebook to creating a revolution.
Step 1 Make a plan. Establish what goals you want to accomplish and how you will accomplish them. Make sure you are thoroughly organized and you are determined. Example: In 1912, prior to Walter Sisulu’s discovery of Nelson Mandela, the ANC devised plans and gathered together several people devoted to the cause. Evidence: The beginning of greater cooperation between African people, Colored and Indian people. They gathered support among the new population. Program of action calling for strikes, boycotts and defiance.
Step 2 Find a charismatic leader with complete devotion. This leader must be willing to sacrifice anything and everything for their cause. This shows the opponent or the structure you are trying to change see that you will do anything to achieve your goals. Example: When Walter Sisulu found Mandela, he knew that Mandela was the person he was looking for to lead the ANC. This involves the factor of charisma and leadership skills. Evidence: Nelson Mandela’s speech at the treason trial. Excerpt: “It is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”
Step 3 Make sure everyone involved is motivated and has their priorities straightened out. Make sure they are determined and encouraged. Offer support at all times. Example: When South Africa was controlled by the Afrikaners, they used the Namibia apartheid as an encouragement and hope for the apartheid in South Africa. Evidence: Steve Biko created a quote saying “Black is Beautiful”. This gave the apartheid victims confident and encouragement to face protests and be proud of themselves.
Step 4 Publicize your cause make sure as many people as possible know about it so that they can take a stance. This makes your cause all the more reliable and credible regardless of oppositions. Example: The riots and protests held in Soweto created a lot of publicity and attention about the truth of apartheid. Evidence: Steve Biko death was publicized in newspapers to draw attention to anti-apartheid principles.
Step 5 Take action! Follow your plan from Step 1. Gather together all the supporters and do whatever it takes; however, non-violence is key at this point in the process. Use communication and negotiation. Be willing to make sacrifices in order to reach a consensus with compromise. Example: The massacre occurred when the South African police opened fire on a crowd of black protesters, killing 69 people. Do not massacre because it will only cause an uproar from the opposing parties. Evidence: The redshirt leader pay each supporter 400 baht a day to attend the protests and demonstrations. Taksin is the person who pays the leaders to make all this happen.
