American democracy differs from other democracies because citizens elect leaders to make decisions on their behalf based on elections and voting. Leaders make laws and policies based on the expressed preferences of citizens through elections and votes on specific issues.

people. ” In a democracy, citizens participate directly in
government decisions. American democracy is different
because leaders are elected by citizens, and those leaders
make decisions for their constituents. These decisions are
based on elections and voting on specific laws.

3. are the ideals that should be passed on? One ideals that should be passed on is
teaching students to become free thinkers. Obedience is usually taught at a young age, and with that,
curriculum is overly structured. Equality in the classroom should also be promoted in schools. No one
should get preferential treatment base on race, creed, or aptitude. All students should have access to
the same opportunities.
How, specifically, do schools currently accomplish this purpose? Students are being
encouraged to think freely by being given multiple opportunities to express what is on their mind.
Opinions are more accepted in the classroom now than ever before. Giving students the opportunity
to think freely encourages active participation in discussions and allows students to utilize their own
experiences to gain knowledge.
Should the next generation have a voice in determining their beliefs and values?
The next generation is already using their voices to spread their beliefs and values. An example of
this is people using gender pronouns. If someone was born a boy but identifies as a woman, they use
their voice to let others know what they prefer being called. The world is constantly changing, and
with every new generation, beliefs and values start to skew to whatever is relevant at the time.
Schools need to embrace the change and allow future generations to express themselves.

5. Pretend you believe the definition is true, why
should this be the main purpose of schools? Creating
an educated workforce should be the purpose of schools because there is
already a shortage of qualified professionals in the workforce. Preparing
people for the next 25-30 years of their career allows employees to get a taste
of what their job consists of. Having a pool of qualified candidates also allows
employers to select a candidate whose ideals align with the company.
Is the current workforce in the United States
deficient in some way? Yes, the current workforce is in deficient
in my opinion. At the root of the problem is what employers are requiring
from employees vs. the compensation that is offered. There are job listings
that require a masters degree, 10 years of work experience and multiple
certifications but only offer a touch above minimum wage. That on its own is
enough to ward off most candidates. Why go to school for an advanced
degree when a person could get paid roughly the same to flip burgers at
burger king. The insane demands most of these jobs require leads to fewer
people working toward an advanced degree, which leads to a dip in the
quality of potential candidates.

6. How, specifically, could schools currently
accomplish this purpose? Specificity in what is being
taught would go a long way in improving the competency of
future employees in the world. High schools and junior high
schools should be offering more elective course options for
students. If a child is interested in computer science, under
the current model they would likely have to wait until halfway
through a bachelor's program to have an opportunity to take
the required courses. Another problem arises if the student
then finds out computer science is not what they thought it
would be. Now that student must suddenly change what they
major in, and if nothing else interests them they are added to
a long list of students who did not finish college and are now
in debt. Giving students options at a younger age allows them
to try different things out and possibly fall in love with a
certain trade.
