The prestige
1. The clip starts off with an over the shoulder shot of Robert Angier who looks like he is in pain. We get this interpretation
from the ongoing coughs and moans coming from his mouth. Furthermore he is portrayed with only a little lightning
pointing at his forehead, the rest of his body (from what we can see) is dull and gloomy. The background of Robert is
only portraying (from what we can interpret) a wooden box. In fact most of the colour choice in this frame is dark and
natural colours. Low pitched violins are being played in the background as Robert is trying to talk. This shot lasts for 5
seconds
2. We are then sent to a pan tilt which then shows us a close up shot of one of the
characters. The non diegetic violins are then increased in pitch and temp as this scene
lasts for 3 seconds. Another quick mid shot of two people follow the scene for a
maximum of 3 seconds. This could've been done to symbolise the quick heart beat of
Robert Angier as Alfred Borden is slowly revealing his plot. The quickness of the music
and the shots being changed sends thrill and suspense down the audiences spine. I
think its smart having the shot changing as it carries on the tension and suspense
further.
3. We are then brought to a mid shot of Alfred Borden. As he speaks we hear more of a
whisper than his voice which highlights that the more deeper he gets into the
conversation, the more secretive he gets. This therefore gets the camera to a zoom
into his face as we can see the small detail of his face. This is necessary so we can see
just how intense and serial this scene is..
4. The camera tilts into a disturbing shot of a close up of Roberts hand.
There is a thick metallic object next to his hand highlighting how
something intense is about to happen. The non diegetic music begins to
increase in tempo in an unnatural pace whilst we here Robert gasp.
Infact he does a loud gulp which suggests he is preparing for something
big.
5. We are then brought into the exact same shot on slide 3. This highlights how robert has
been thinking of his past continously that speaking about it doesnt scare him. The music
then slows down in temp as the pitch goes into a more higher and relaxing tone. This
highlights how most of the intense scenes are however
6. The shots contiounsly flicker to mid close ups of robert and Alfred highlighting they are
the only two main characters in the scene.
