1) When jumping, a horse's ability depends on the force generated by its back legs which is impacted by speed - the faster the horse is moving, the higher it can jump. 2) Bigger horses generate more force from their back legs and are generally better jumpers than smaller ponies. 3) To balance the horse and rider over a jump, riders stand up in a "two-point" position to shift their weight forward.
