Jesus tells Pilate that he is indeed a king, having been born for that purpose. He says he came to bring truth to the world, and that all who love the truth will recognize his words are true. The passage then describes a poll finding that most Americans are familiar with Christian teachings but their beliefs are unlikely to change. It then describes Jesus' encounter with a Samaritan woman at a well, where he reveals details of her personal life and tells her he can give her living water to satisfy her deepest needs.
The document summarizes the principal liturgical seasons and feasts that make up the Catholic liturgical year. It describes the seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter Triduum, and Ordinary Time. It explains that the colors of priestly vestments change during the year to correspond with the different seasons. John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus and baptized him when he was 30 years old. After his baptism, Jesus went into the desert where he fasted for 40 days and was tempted. After overcoming temptation, Jesus began preaching that the Kingdom of Heaven was near. He called Peter and Andrew to follow him and said he would make them fishers of men.
Pedro Calungsod was born in 1654 in the Philippines and worked as a catechist alongside Jesuit missionary Diego Luis de San Vitores in Guam. The book of Isaiah contains prophecies of both judgment and consolation. It is divided into two main sections - the first (chapters 1-39) contains denunciations of Israel's sins and prophecies of coming judgment in the form of exile. The second section (chapters 40-66) provides consolation through prophecies of Israel's future restoration and redemption through the coming Messiah. Key events and themes include Isaiah's call and vision of God, prophecies concerning Christ's virgin birth and kingdom, and predictions of Babylon's fall and Israel's return from exile over 150 years later under Cyrus.

The document provides an introduction to the Bible, including what it is, how it is divided, who wrote it, and the process of canonization. It discusses that the Bible is a collection of 73 books written over time by various authors inspired by God. The books are divided into the Old and New Testaments. The Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew and the New Testament in Greek. The Catholic and Protestant canons differ slightly in their inclusion of books in the Old Testament.

The document discusses the composition of the Bible, including that it is a collection of 66 books written over 1500 years by over 40 authors. The Old Testament, consisting of 39 books written before Christ, foretold the coming of a savior. The New Testament, consisting of 27 books written after Christ, provides accounts of Christ's life, teachings, death, and resurrection, establishing him as the promised messiah. Together, the books tell a unified story despite being written over centuries by diverse human authors, pointing to God as the divine author.
Faith and Its importance in Christian Life: Steps to improve in Faith by Br...Sarath Thomas
This document discusses the importance of faith for Christians. It begins by explaining how faith brings spiritual things into the physical realm and is necessary to please God. It then discusses how modern ideas have reduced faith to being unimportant. Several philosophers are quoted questioning the existence of God. The document argues that faith is still important for Christians as the source of their strength and participation in God's plan. It provides several steps to improve one's faith such as feeding on God's word, acting on faith, and meditating on scripture. It concludes by emphasizing that humans are created to have a relationship with God through faith.
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity who has been present since Creation. He is described through many symbols including wind, fire, a dove, and anointing with oil. The Holy Spirit gives gifts to believers and manifests Christ, making him present through the Church, sacraments, and helping believers understand and live out their faith.
We know the dictionary definition of worship (a feeling, or devotion to a deity), and we have read John 4:24, "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth"; but, what does the Bible teach us about the subject of worship? This is a series of lessons that gets to the heart of worship and what it really means for Christians.
The document discusses the Holy Spirit from several biblical passages and church teachings. It describes the Holy Spirit as the third person of the Trinity, sent by God to empower and guide believers. Key points include Jesus commanding the disciples to await the Holy Spirit's coming, the Spirit's descent at Pentecost establishing the Church, and the Spirit's role in sanctifying believers through the sacraments and spiritual gifts.

The document summarizes key events in the Book of Exodus from the Bible. It describes how the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt and Moses' early life as an Egyptian prince. God then calls on Moses to lead the Israelites out of slavery. Despite plagues sent by God, the Pharaoh refuses to release them. After the tenth plague kills the firstborn sons of Egypt, the Pharaoh lets the Israelites go. God parts the Red Sea to allow their escape and later gives the Ten Commandments to Moses at Mount Sinai, establishing a covenant with the Israelites.
The document discusses having a proper Christian attitude based on Philippians 2:5-11. It says we should have the same attitude as Christ Jesus, who existed in the form of God but did not grasp at equality with God. Instead, he emptied himself and took the form of a slave, humbling himself and becoming obedient to death on a cross. Because of this, God exalted Jesus and gave him the name above all other names, so that all will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. It then contrasts the attitudes of man and Jesus Christ, saying we should emulate Jesus' selfless and humble attitude rather than a self-centered one.
Dr. John Oakes is teaching a series of classes on the Book of Acts for the Singles ministry of the San Diego Church of Christ on Thursday evenings beginning September 3 at the Mission Center of Hope. Notes, power point and audio are attached.
Faith is our personal response and acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. It involves believing in God as revealed by Jesus Christ and through the Catholic Church. Faith is central to human relationships and involves trusting in others. For Christians, faith is adhering to the Triune God through belief in Jesus Christ. It is a total commitment to God that is loving, maturing, and impels us to share our faith with others through evangelization.
This document discusses different approaches to understanding who Jesus is, known as Christology. It outlines a "from above" approach that begins with Jesus' divine nature and pre-existence and a "from below" approach that starts with the human Jesus of history. While an exclusive emphasis on either approach has issues, many theologians today prefer starting "from below" to appreciate Jesus' full humanity and solidarity with us, which can inspire discipleship. The document also examines how Jesus has been understood in different contexts like Latin America, Africa, and the Philippines, where he has been seen as a liberator or one who endured suffering.
The document describes various types of offerings in the Old Testament. The burnt offering involved burning the entire animal on the altar and was meant to atone for intentional sins. The grain offering consisted of flour, oil, and incense burned on the altar and was a thank or praise offering. For the fellowship/peace offering, parts were burned and other parts were eaten by the priest and worshipper to reinforce fellowship. The sin offering procedure varied based on the sinner (individual, community, priest, or leader) but aimed to atone for unintentional sins through blood rites. The guilt/trespass offering addressed unfulfilled duties and sins against others, requiring restitution.
The document discusses the dimensions of faith from a Catholic perspective. It describes faith as having 3 dimensions - believing with the head (doctrine), doing with the hands (morals), and trusting with the heart (worship). It states that authentic Christian faith integrates believing, doing, and trusting, embracing Gospel truth, committing to God's will, and offering worship to God. The document emphasizes that faith should be both orthodox in doctrine and orthopraxis (right practice), grounded in Scripture and tradition but also human experience.
This document discusses how God is pouring out His Holy Spirit on children around the world. It provides several examples of children in countries like Nepal, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Ethiopia, Peru, Cuba, Spain, Scotland, Dubai, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and India experiencing the Holy Spirit through prophesying, speaking in tongues, having visions, experiencing being slain in the Spirit, intercessory prayer, worship, preaching, and healing. The document encourages the reader to help carry revival to children in their own nation through the power of the Holy Spirit.
The document discusses the five ministry gifts of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. It states that each gift has a distinct operation to perfect saints, equip them for ministry work, and build up the body of Christ. Apostles bring unity of faith, prophets knowledge of God, evangelists bring people to Christ, and pastors and teachers bring people to maturity in Christ. The gifts are given for ordering the church, speaking God's heart through revelation, saving souls by preaching the gospel, shepherding people, and stirring people to know spiritual truth.

The document provides an outline for a course on the gospel of Christ. It begins by defining the gospel as the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ, based on his death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. It explains that the gospel covers the results and benefits of Jesus' death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. It then discusses the power of the gospel message to bring salvation and the necessity of preachers to spread the gospel so that people can hear, believe, and be saved. The document stresses that the gospel proclaims liberty, comfort, and joy to those who were previously bound or mourning. It describes the gospel as telling of the glory that follows Christ's sufferings. In the end

Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Processes and International System D...Shahadat Hossain Shakil
The document discusses the evolution and current state of Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) processes in Australia. Key points include:
- SEA was formally introduced in Australia through the 1999 Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, but its use has remained uneven and often ad hoc across different sectors and levels of government.
- SEA has seen more successful implementation in the fisheries sector due to mandatory requirements and incentives, conducting over 120 assessments. In other sectors its use has been limited due to its voluntary nature.
- While Australian SEA law and policy aim to promote environmental protection, the practice of SEA has focused more on expediting development decisions rather than identifying environmentally sustainable options.
-

Stakeholder Debate in Policy Implementation: An Evaluation of Bangladesh Leat...Shahadat Hossain Shakil
This paper focuses on stakeholder debate and conflict during policy implementation. In doing so it analyzed the reason behind the implementation snag of Bangladesh leather processing industry relocation policy, which is extreme stakeholder negotiation. Relevant stakeholders have been identified and their influence over the policy measure has been formulated. Underlying interactions among the stakeholders has been conceptually depicted to retrieve an image of the extreme stakeholder dispute behind this policy failure. Finally, based on the empirical evidence this policy measure has been evaluated in light of the effective participation of the concerned stakeholders.
Strategic Environmental Assessment and International System Development Shahadat Hossain Shakil
This document summarizes the findings of a study that analyzed strategic environmental assessment (SEA) systems in 10 countries. The study aimed to assess the extent to which SEA has become integrated into national decision-making and identify gaps between SEA theory and practice. Key findings included that SEA is mainly voluntary, legislation is still evolving, and South Africa has the least developed SEA system. While basic guidelines have been developed in all countries, the Netherlands and England were identified as leading in legislation and guidance. The Netherlands also had the smallest gaps between SEA theory and practice.
STARTING WELL & FINISHING EVEN BETTER!!!CHarles Ugeh
The document discusses the biblical story of King Joash, who started his reign well at age 7 but ended poorly after associating with the wrong people later in life. It encourages the reader to start well in the new academic session by writing down goals, associating with mentors like pastors, and befriending the Holy Spirit for guidance. Failing to do these things could lead one to stray from God as Joash did after the death of his mentor Jehoiada. The document calls readers to action in developing goals, accountability partners, and a close relationship with spiritual leaders.
The document discusses the meaning of Jesus being declared the Son of God at his resurrection according to Romans 1:4. It explains that Jesus was eternally God but took on human form, becoming fully subordinate to God the Father's will. His divine sonship was demonstrated powerfully by his resurrection from the dead by the Holy Spirit. The document emphasizes that Jesus is the divine Savior, Christ, and Lord of all through whom believers receive eternal spiritual riches.
The document discusses 12 arguments that are commonly used to argue that Jesus is God. It summarizes each argument and provides counterarguments. The overall conclusion is that the biblical evidence is ambiguous and can be interpreted in different ways, and does not definitively prove that Jesus is God. The document aims to show that Jesus' divinity is not as clearly established as Christians claim.
The document provides a historical overview of the development of the doctrine of the Trinity in the early Christian church. It discusses how the Old Testament affirms monotheism and how the New Testament presents God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It then describes how the early church councils at Nicaea in 325 AD and Constantinople in 381 AD formulated the doctrine of the Trinity, affirming the full deity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit as three persons in one God.
The document discusses different meanings of the phrase "Word of God" in the Bible. It can refer to Jesus Christ, who embodied the total message from God. It also refers to the written message of God found in scripture. There are two Greek words used - Logos refers more broadly to the total message or expression of God's thoughts, while Rhema refers more specifically to the actual spoken or written words. The document emphasizes that God communicates through his creation, prophets, Holy Spirit, scripture, and especially through his Son Jesus Christ. Christians must understand that the "Word of God" encompasses more than just the printed words, as God speaks through all these means.
This document provides biblical evidence that Jesus Christ is God based on passages from the Old and New Testaments. It asserts that Isaiah 9:6 refers to the Messiah as the "mighty God" and "everlasting Father". Several other Old Testament passages referenced, including Isaiah 7:14 and Micah 5:2, also identify attributes of the Messiah that align with Jesus being God. The New Testament further establishes Jesus's deity, with passages like John 20:28 where Thomas calls Jesus "Lord and God", and Colossians 2:9 which says all the fullness of God resides in Jesus. Overall, the document argues that Jesus is the manifestation of God in human form to reconcile humanity and reveal God to people.

Jesus came into human history as both fully God and fully man through the virgin birth. As God, he took on human flesh and lived among us humbly as a servant. Though divine, he did not rely on his divine powers but lived as a human in order to redeem humanity. He was tempted in every way as a human yet did not sin. Jesus came to save mankind from sin and death and restore our relationship with God.
This document provides an overview of a study about God organized into 5 lessons: 1) The Existence of God, 2) The Nature of God, 3) The Names of God, 4) The Trinity of God, and 5) The Attributes of God. It discusses proofs for God's existence including cause and effect, design in the universe, and the idea of perfection. God's nature is described as creator, all-powerful, all-knowing, holy, a spirit, and a loving father. Various names of God are explained like Elohim, Jehovah, and compound names revealing aspects like provider, banner, righteousness, shepherd, peace, and healer. The Trinity of God is supported
Jesus is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Bible shows that God is one being that exists in three capacities - as the Creator (Father), the Word (Son), and the Holy Spirit. Jesus embodied all three capacities through his dual divine and human natures. As a man, Jesus prayed to God the Father, but as God he was not praying to another being but rather distinguishing between his human and divine aspects as the one God.
Christ is the antidote to death. Jesus said "I and my Father are one." We were originally created in Christ and chosen before the foundation of the world. Christ is the headstone/capstone of the new spiritual temple being built. There is one God manifest in different ways, not three separate persons. We are meant to realize our true identity as Christ and rise up in that understanding. Sin and repentance have been presented in legalistic terms but truly mean a change of heart or mind brought through God's convicting love. What was accomplished at Calvary has already freed us from sin and death through God's grace.
The document discusses the Gospel of John and the identity of Jesus Christ. It aims to provide an understanding of who Jesus is through analyzing key passages in John. Some main points made include:
1) Jesus is revealed as the Word/Logos who was with God in the beginning and through whom all things were created.
2) Jesus, as the Word made flesh, came to declare God and make the invisible God known to humanity.
3) Having the Holy Spirit is essential for believers as it is the source of spiritual life and allows people to live as God.
4) Mary recognized Jesus' divine authority, calling him the "whatsoever" God who can use whatsoever to accomplish His purposes
This is a lesson in the Crossroads programme, a discipleship programme written by Dr Kevin Smith and offered by the South African Theological Seminary. This lesson is about the Deity and Humanity of Christ.
The document discusses the divinity of Jesus Christ based on the opening verses of the Gospel of John. It makes three key points:
1) Jesus, referred to as the Word, existed eternally with God and was himself God, indicating his co-equality with God the Father.
2) As the Word, Jesus perfectly revealed God and was the means by which God's will and purposes were carried out.
3) Though divine, Jesus also took on human nature and was made flesh, allowing humanity to have a relationship with the invisible God through him. He is both fully God and fully human.
The document discusses the origins and inspiration of the Bible. It explains that while humans wrote the Bible, they did so under the supernatural inspiration of God through the Holy Spirit. The Bible was written over many generations as God saw fit to reveal truths to humanity. Proper interpretation requires recognizing the Bible as the divine Word of God and relying on the Holy Spirit for understanding.
The Trinity refers to the Christian belief that God exists as three persons in one entity: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. It is a core concept in Christianity, as it is the basis for all Christian beliefs and is explained by Jesus himself. While the concept of the Trinity may seem contradictory, the Bible provides truth and understanding about the connections between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The document provides background on why the Gospel of John was written. It explains that some false teachings emerged claiming Jesus was just a man, so John wrote this Gospel to show that Jesus was God made flesh. John selected miracles from the hundreds Jesus performed that proved His divine identity. He called these "signs." John also showed why religious leaders opposed Jesus, because He claimed equality with God. The purpose of John's Gospel was for readers to believe in Jesus and receive eternal life.
1) The document discusses the relationship between God and Jesus based on Divine Principle teachings. It argues that while Jesus is one with God, he is not God himself. Jesus can be seen as the "image of God" or the "Word made flesh", but he fulfilled God's purpose as a perfected man and mediator between God and humanity.
2) The document also discusses the Divine Principle perspective on the Trinity. It states that for God's purpose to be fulfilled, Jesus and the Holy Spirit must become one body with God through give and take, forming a Trinity centered on God. Originally, God's plan was for humanity to form Trinities centered on God as well, but due to the fall
This document provides instructions for studying the Bible. It recommends praying for understanding, reading Scripture passages carefully, answering questions from the passages, checking answers, memorizing verses, meditating on the Word, putting it into practice, and sharing what you've learned with others. Studying God's Word requires prayer, careful reading, questioning, verification, memorization, meditation, application, and discussion.

Lucid Dreaming: Understanding the Risks and Benefits
The ability to control one's dreams or for the dreamer to be aware that he or she is dreaming. This process, called lucid dreaming, has some potential risks as well as many fascinating benefits. However, many people are hesitant to try it initially for fear of the potential dangers. This article aims to clarify these concerns by exploring both the risks and benefits of lucid dreaming.
The Benefits of Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming allows a person to take control of their dream world, helping them overcome their fears and eliminate nightmares. This technique is particularly useful for mental health. By taking control of their dreams, individuals can face challenging scenarios in a controlled environment, which can help reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence.
Addressing Common Concerns
Physical Harm in Dreams Lucid dreaming is fundamentally safe. In a lucid dream, everything is a creation of your mind. Therefore, nothing in the dream can physically harm you. Despite the vividness and realness of the dream experience, it remains entirely within your mental landscape, posing no physical danger.
Mental Health Risks Concerns about developing PTSD or other mental illnesses from lucid dreaming are unfounded. As soon as you wake up, it's clear that the events experienced in the dream were not real. On the contrary, lucid dreaming is often seen as a therapeutic tool for conditions like PTSD, as it allows individuals to reframe and manage their thoughts.
Potential Risks of Lucid Dreaming
While generally safe, lucid dreaming does come with a few risks as well:
Mixing Dream Memories with Reality Long-term lucid dreamers might occasionally confuse dream memories with real ones, creating false memories. This issue is rare and preventable by maintaining a dream journal and avoiding lucid dreaming about real-life people or places too frequently.
Escapism Using lucid dreaming to escape reality can be problematic if it interferes with your daily life. While it is sometimes beneficial to escape and relieve the stress of reality, relying on lucid dreaming for happiness can hinder personal growth and productivity.
Feeling Tired After Lucid Dreaming Some people report feeling tired after lucid dreaming. This tiredness is not due to the dreams themselves but often results from not getting enough sleep or using techniques that disrupt sleep patterns. Taking breaks and ensuring adequate sleep can prevent this.
Mental Exhaustion Lucid dreaming can be mentally taxing if practiced excessively without breaks. It’s important to balance lucid dreaming with regular sleep to avoid mental fatigue.
Lucid dreaming is safe and beneficial if done with caution. It has many benefits, such as overcoming fear and improving mental health, and minimal risks. There are many resources and tutorials available for those interested in trying it.

The Personality of Jesus
1. DIVINE LIFE
MINISTRIES
FOUNDATION COURSE OUTLINE
TITLE: THE PERSONALITY OF JESUS
The subject of the person of Jesus is so crucial to the understanding of
other subjects in the kingdom of God because there is no Christianity
without Jesus. It is also important to note that whenever we study
about Jesus, we are actually looking at who we are in Christ because
the scripture declares in 1 John 4:17 “Herein is our love made perfect,
that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so
are we in this world.” in other words, there is fundamentally no
difference between Jesus Himself and the believer in Christ, that’s
why we are called members of His body. (Eph 5:30)
Haven said that; let us now take a brief look into the personality of
Jesus Christ our Lord. In simple terminologies, I will like to define
personality as the essential character and qualities that distinguishes
and makes a person unique. In this case, we are studying those
character traits and qualities that distinguishes Jesus as who He is.
JESUS – THE WORD
As we talk about the person of Jesus as the Word of God, it is
important to note that while the Word of God is eternal, Jesus never
existed until the Word took up flesh! In other words, the Word had
always been with the Father all along but it was when the Word
became flesh that Jesus came into existence. This is why I like to say
that Jesus is more than a prophet like some people of little
1
2. understanding think and say. He is not the man who came to start the
Christian religion. He is not just a nice man who did many good things
for people. Jesus is the Word of God made flesh.
The bible declares in John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the
Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Just the way God was
from the beginning, the scripture says that the Word was in the
beginning. The Word wasn’t created like God wasn’t created. The
Word had and still has the very nature and quality of God Himself.
That is the reason John ended that verse by saying “and the Word was
God”
Furthermore, when the appointed time to save mankind came, the bible
declares in Psalm 107:20 that “He sent his word, and healed them, and
delivered them from their destructions.” Now, you have to understand
that the Word of God exists in the realm of the Spirit for God is a
Spirit and so is His word. So Jesus is the intrusion of the Word of God
into the natural realm. That’s why He was called Emmanuel, for God
had come to tabernacle amongst men!
John further buttresses this point in the fourteenth verse of the gospel
according to St. John where he said “And the Word was made flesh,
and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only
begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
So when Jesus walked the earth, He wasn’t the same as every other
person on the earth at that time. He wasn’t like any other that existed
before either. He was divinity manifested in human casing. When He
moved from one village to another, it was the Word of God moving
from one village to another. When He spoke to people, it was the
Word of God speaking. When He performed a miracle, it was the
Word of God performing a miracle. Oh what a personality Jesus is!
2
3. One day while He was talking during His earthly ministry, the bible
records in John 8:58 “Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto
you, Before Abraham was, I am.” This to an English man sounds
grammatically incorrect since you would expect Him to say “I was”
but Jesus and His audience knew exactly what He was saying. The
bible says they took up stones to cast at Him for saying so.
Of course you wouldn’t expect them to attempt to stone Him for a
grammatically incorrect statement. They did so because they knew
exactly what He meant. You see, the phrase “I am” is used of God
alone as revealed to Moses their fore father. And that was why they
wanted to stone Him for saying “I am” They couldn’t understand how
this Jesus who they knew His date of birth, and natural parents was
claiming to be God! What they didn’t know was that Jesus wasn’t like
any other person they knew around. Even though born of a woman, the
substance of His existence was the very word of God. That was why
He could boldly say “He is” before Abraham for the Word of God
existed before Abraham did.
Now you can relate with the Word of God in John 1:12-13 that says
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the
sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born,
not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of
God.” Wow! John said anyone who believes in and receives Jesus
equally receives the power (authority) to become the son of God in the
same capacity that Jesus is the Son of God.
Then he went on to describe what it means to be a son of God by
saying it doesn’t mean to be born of blood. In other words this kind of
birth is not traceable or has nothing to do with human blood at all. In
fact, we are not born of the flesh or of the will (volition) of natural
men. He said we are born of God! Now you may begin to wonder how
possible it is for you to be born of God when you know the very man
whose surname you bear.
3
4. The apostle Peter has the answer in 1 Pet 1:23 where he said “Being
born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word
of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” He says we are born again
not of corruptible sperm but of incorruptible sperm. He went on to say
that incorruptible sperm that has become the substance of our birth is
the Word of God that lives and abides ever. So just like Jesus, if you
are born again, you are born of the Word of God too.
JESUS – THE IMAGE OF GOD
Talking about Jesus as the image of God; there are two Greek words
translated image and used in relation to Jesus as the image of God in
scripture. The first word translated image is the Greek word
“charakter” from where the English word “character” is derived. It
refers to a tool for graving, a stamp or an impression as in a coin or a
seal. In other words, this word refers to the character or image
impressed upon a coin or a seal. It speaks of how that a seal which
makes an impression on a sheet of paper for example, bears the image
or the character produced by it!
Take for example, a company has a seal or rubber stamp on which an
image is impressed and this instrument (the seal or rubber stamp) is
used for impressing the image that it has on other materials. This is
what the bible refers to in Heb 1:2-3 where it says “Hath in these last
days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all
things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness
of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all
things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our
sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;”
He refers to Jesus as both being the image of God’s person and the
instrument for impressing that image on others! He is the adequate
imprint of the essence of the Father. This was why Jesus himself said
4
5. “No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in
the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.” John 1:18. The only
begotten Son which is in the bosom of the Father (the imprint of the
Father) has declared (impressed) the Father upon our hearts.
Furthermore, when we read in John 10:30 Jesus said “I and my Father
are one” It is important to note that the terminology He used here
means to have their being in each other such that there is no one
without the other! In other words, Jesus is the precise reproduction of
the Father in every respect.
The second one is the word “eikon” from where we have the English
word “icon”. This word is translated image and involves the ideas of
representation and manifestation. It means to be essentially and
absolutely the perfect expression and representation of the original,
model or prototype. It refers to both resemblance and manifestation.
So it means to both look like and to act like.
This was the word Paul the apostle used in 1 Cor 15:49 where he said
“And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the
image of the heavenly.” Here he referred to the natural man who is a
descendant of Adam as bearing Adam’s image (eikon). Mankind is
described as a representation derived from the prototype (Adam). In
other words, the natural man looks like and function like Adam. This
is the reason the natural man cannot live a life superior to the quality
of life Adam had but thanks be to God, as we have borne the image
(image and likeness) of the earthy, we now bear the very image of the
heavenly (Jesus)
So when we talk about Jesus as the image of God, we are saying He is
the perfect representation of the invisible Father. He looks like and
functions like the Father. Little wonder why John 14:9 records “Jesus
saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou
5
6. not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and
how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?”
In 2 Cor 4:4, scripture declares “In whom the god of this world hath
blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the
glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto
them.” Oh Jesus was indeed not an ordinary person at all. He wasn’t
like those prophets through whom God spoke occasionally. Whenever
He spoke, He spoke as God not for God. That’s why He didn’t have to
pray to perform a miracle! He simply said “be healed”, “rise up and
walk”, “be made whole” and so on.
This subject becomes even more interesting when you discover that
God used the same terms when talking about us in Rom 8:29 “For
whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the
image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many
brethren.” I mean God says that He foreknew us and predestinated us
to be fashioned and pattered after the very image and likeness of His
Son. You see why it is out of place for you to be trying so hard to copy
and be like the world? We were designed to look like and to function
like Jesus here on earth. You too can boldly say “If you have seen me,
you have seen Jesus” Praise God!
JESUS – THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON:
As we study Jesus as the only begotten Son of God, I will like for us to
consider some of the words translated begotten in the bible. One of
them is the word “Monogenas”. It is the word used in John 1:14, John
1:18, John 3:16 and John 3:18 and refers to a single of its kind. It
implies that Jesus “was” a single of His kind. He “was” the only
representative of a particular species. He was what you would call an
“only child”
So why did I say Jesus “was” the only begotten Son of the Father?
This is because He is no longer the only begotten Son of the Father.
6
7. Remember that scripture in Rom 8:29 that says “For whom he did
foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his
Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”
It is no longer correct to say Jesus is the only begotten Son of the
Father because through His earthly ministry, expiatory death, burial,
resurrection and ascension, it has become possible for other sons to
emerge. This is what transformed His identity from an only begotten
son to the firstborn among many brethren. You and I are now members
of the family of God and as much His children as Jesus is!
Another very important word was used in 1 Pet 1:3 where scripture
says “blessed be the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which
according to His abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively
hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead”
Here the apostle Peter was talking about the new creation and said God
hath begotten us again to a lively hope. He uses the Greek word
“Anagennao” which means to produce again, born again, born
anew, to have ones’ mind changed so that he lives a new life. In
other words, what he was saying was that God has made us born again
unto a lively hope (a lifetime of hope) by the resurrection of Jesus
Christ. You see, because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are
born again unto newness of life. So when next you think about Jesus,
you think about the reason for our lives as Christian!
JESUS – THE FIRSTBORN OF EVERY CREATURE: (Col 1:13-15,
18, Rev 1:5, Rom 8:29, 1 Cor 15:20)
When we talk about Jesus as the first born, what comes into the mind
of everyone is that He wasn’t the first to be born into the world, how
then is He the first born of every creature? Well, we would look at this
7
8. from two different angles. First, let’s look at Colossians 1:18 “and He
is the head of the body, the church; who is the beginning, the firstborn
from the dead; that in all things, He might have the preeminence”
The Greek word used here literally means the first born or first
begotten. Also in Rev 1:5 the scripture says “and from Jesus Christ,
who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten from the dead, and
the prince of the kings of the earth…” The bible tells us He is the first
begotten form the dead. This doesn’t mean the first to be resurrected
because we know Jesus during His earthly ministry even raised the
dead. The point is this, all those who were raised to life from the dead
came back with the same kind of life they had before they died but in
Jesus’ case, the life with which He resurrected was different.
Despite the fact that Jesus was 100% God and 100% man, we know
that he was made sin who knew no sin that we might become the
righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (2 Cor 5:21) He was arrested as a
sinner and judged as a sinner. Finally, He was crucified as a sinner and
paid the penalty of sin which was death! Remember the bible says the
wages of sin is death, so He had to receive the wages of the sins He
was then carrying as the representative of mankind. After His death,
He went to hell as a sinner is supposed to. Three days later, He came
back to life. Actually, He was brought back to life by the Holy Spirit
who is referred to as the glory of the Father.
Here’s the difference! He wasn’t just raised to life or resurrected as it
sounds; He was actually born out of death! He was born anew with a
very different life. He did not resurrect as the sinner He was when He
died. He came out of the grave the righteousness of God. He came out
of the grave with the God kind of Life, the Divine Life! Now, since no
one ever lived with that life before Him, He remained the first born of
that race.
CONFESSION:
8
9. Dear heavenly Father I thank you for loving me so much and
sending your Word to save me from all destruction. Thank you for
the intensity of your love that looked beyond who I was and what I
had to offer but considered who I could become if only you made
that sacrifice. I thank you for giving birth to me by your living and
abiding Word and then making me as you really are in Christ Jesus.
Thank you Lord for as I had borne the image of the earthly, so I am
now bearing the image of the heavenly. Therefore, as He is so am I
in this world for you have made me your qualified representation
and manifestation. I declare that my world is seeing Jesus in me as I
show forth the beauties and Excellencies of the heavenly every day
of my life.
Yes I am a member of the family of God for I hail from Him. I am
His offspring and His reproduction! I am a child of God in the same
capacity as Jesus – the Son of God for He has given me His life and
the very essence of His personality. Everywhere I go God goes
because He now lives in me and functions through me. All things are
therefore possible to me for I now function with the ability of the
living God in the name of Jesus.
I have been born again unto a lifetime of hope by the resurrection of
Jesus from the dead. Christ in me is the hope of glory for greater is
He that is in me than he that is in the world. Everything about my
life now has the God factor attached to it for I am no ordinary
person at all. I am a supernatural being from a supernatural
kingdom and I reign, rule and dominate in this life by Christ Jesus.
ASSESSMENT
Please let me state categorically that the reason for this assessment is
not to score you or give you any credits but to see to it that you have
clearly understood the topic of discourse. So kindly ensure that you
9
10. answer these questions in accordance with your understanding rather
than in accordance with what is written in the outline.
If you find that at some point you don’t seem to know the answer, then
read and re-read the outline until you have a firm grip on the material.
If it takes you several weeks to understand this, it doesn’t mean that
you are dull in understanding at all. It simply means that you are smart
and have decided to take your time to understand the subject and that
in my honest opinion is a million times better than rushing through for
reading sake.
