John Steinbeck Jr. was an American author born in 1902 in Salinas, California. He is most famous for his novel "The Pearl", published in 1947. The Pearl tells the story of Kino, a poor pearl diver living in La Paz, Mexico with his wife Juana and baby son Coyotito. After Coyotito is stung by a scorpion, Kino finds a giant pearl that he believes will pay for his son's medical treatment and improve their lives. However, greed and misfortune follow the pearl, threatening Kino's family and challenging his sense of justice.
