The Peabody Sisters were Elizabeth, Mary, and Sophia who were champions of education reform in the 1800s. Elizabeth was well educated and opened several schools, publishing journals. She was friends with Transcendentalist thinkers. Mary opened schools with her sisters and married Horace Mann, publishing works on religion and Cuba. Sophia taught art and married author Nathaniel Hawthorne after suffering from migraines. Together, the sisters were influential in the education movement of their time.
