CIA mathematicians analyzed the trajectory of a North Korean missile and US counter missile launched in response. They graphed the distance traveled each day to determine the line of best fit and average speed for each. Using the equations for the lines of best fit, they calculated the missiles will intersect after 10.41 days at a distance of 232,323 miles from Earth. This is less than the 238,897 mile average distance to the moon, so the moon will be spared from any impact. Some margin of error exists since the lines of best fit are estimations and the missiles did not travel at a constant rate.
