3. The Jordan River
Utah Temple
serves Latter-day
Saints in Southern
Salt Lake
County, Utah.
Geographically, it
is the smallest
Mormon temple
district in the
world, but the
temple is one of
the church's
busiest.
4. Unlike many of the temples, which are built mostly with tithing
funds, the Jordan River Utah Temple site was given to the Church
and all of its construction was paid for by members in the 134 stakes
within the temple district.
5. The Open House
The Jordan River Utah
Temple was open to the
public for tours September
29 through October
31, 1981. Over half a
million people toured the
temple during its open
house.
*I got to be one of the
people to take a tour of the
temple . My parents took
me and my sisters. I was 3
½ years old. The top
picture is a picture of a
page from my scrapbook. I
am the little girl on the left
in the bottom picture.
6. Throughout history, the Lord has commanded His
people to build temples. Temples are literally houses of
the Lord. They are holy places of worship where
individuals make sacred promises with God.
7. When I turned 12 I was
able to do baptisms at the
Jordan River Temple.
Before I was married I
took out my own
endowments at the Jordan
River Temple.
8. This is one of my favorite temples because it holds many wonderful
memories from my life.
From going to the open house when I was just 3 1/2 , to being able to
perform ordinances for myself and for those that have passed on
before me, I have grown to love this temple of the Lord.
