• Florida resident Edwin Hammond Meredith is one of a lucky few
Americans who call Key Largo his home. In addition to working for
Score International Series, Edwin Hammond Meredith enjoys
many of the water sports including surfing.
Florida is a natural environment for surfing, but the most thrilling
breaks can be found worldwide. Almost seventy years ago, breaks
that were 15 feet high were considered challenging. However,
because of the ubiquity of the sport and the willingness of surfing
enthusiasts to travel the world as wave hunters, breaks as high as
50 feet have been found in places like the Hawaiian Islands, the
West Coast, and Ireland, among other places. For both surfer and
spectators watching the sport, watching experts expertly
maneuver these waves can be excitement in and of itself.
Half Moon Bay in California is home to Maverick Invitational and
Mavericks Big Wave Contest are just two of the major surfing
events held every year.

3. Surfing
• The location became popular in the eighties and nineties during
the revival of big-wave surfing. Features of the location include
“The Bowl” which places surfers in the middle of a wall of water
and boulder-filled landscape.
In Hawaii, the Northshore of Maui (aka Jaws) and Waimea Bay are
also known for their 50-foot waves. Waimea Bay is home to the
Quicksilver Eddie Aikau Invitational, which features an elite class
of surfer. Named Jaws after the wall of water’s speed, the
Northshore of Maui's are described as mountains of water.
Finally, Mullaghmore Head in Ireland is another place where the
surf provides wave riders a thrill, even with the wind, chill, and
freezing water. The waves are so intense that surfers have to be
taken out to the water with the assistance of jet-skis. A newer
discovery, its waves rival those of Teahupoo in Tahiti.
