Typeandorigin
Type:
• Maxillary nerve is sensory
Origin:
• It is 2nd division of trigeminal nerve(5th cranial
nerve).
Lateral wall of cavernous sinus
passing through foramen rotundum
enter pterygopalatine fossa
the pterygomaxillary fissure
infratemporal fossa
‫ب‬‫ر‬‫يا‬
• meningeal branches
In cranial cavity
• 2 ganglionic branches
pterygopalatine fossa
• posterior superior alveolar
• zygomatic nerve: (a) zygomatico-temporal
(b) zygomatico-facial
In infratemporal fossa
• anterior & middle superior alveolar nerves
In infraorbital canal
• labial, nasal, palpebral
. In face
• Patients who present with a large canine space
abscess make it very difficult for a clinician to
achieve an adequate level of local anesthesia
due to the abscess. In these cases, a maxillary
nerve block may be helpful in providing good
local anesthesia in order to perform treatment.
Maxillary Nerve Block
• Loss of sensation in maxillary area.
Nerve lesion
•Pterygopalatine ganglion is termed as ganglion of hay
fever which is characterized by tears & running nose .
Embryonic origin :
•Nervous system from ectoderm ,ectoderm gives 3 parts:
neural tube neural crest , placodes .
•Neural tube: cranial end brain vesicle brain .
•Brain: prosencephalon , mesencephalon , rhombencephalon
•Rhombencephalon :melencephalon , myelencephalon .
•Melencephalon : cerebellum,pons
•Pons: ventral surface 5th cranial (trigeminal)nerve midway
between upper& lower borders of Pons
•5th cranial nerve : 2 roots lateral sensory large
medial motor small
