Lviv IT Arena is a conference specially designed for programmers, designers, developers, top managers, inverstors, entrepreneurs and startuppers. Annually it takes place at the beginning of October in Lviv at Arena Lviv stadium. In 2016 the conference gathered more than 1800 participants and over 100 speakers from companies like Microsoft, Philips, Twitter, UBER and IBM. More details about the conference at itarena.lviv.ua.

Microservices is a subset of SOA with the value
being that it allows us to put a label on this
useful subset of SOA terminology"

• Componentization, the ability to replace parts of a system,
comparing with stereo components where each piece can
be replaced independently from the others.
• Organisation around business capabilities instead of around
technology.
• Smart endpoints and dumb pipes, explicitly avoiding the use
of an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB).
• Decentralised data management with one database for each
service instead of one database for a whole company.
• Infrastructure automation with continuous delivery being
mandatory.

The cloud is a way to optimize the use of the hardware, sharing it between different systems. To properly distribute computing time and space of the applications in the available hw resources, they should be organized in pieces, that can be distributed in a transparent way, that are balanced, that use standard way to communicate, that can be monitored. In a word they should follow the SOA approach. Some typical SOA pattern that greatly improve the cloud effectiveness.

Microservices are the next step after SOA: Services implement a limited set of functions. Services are developed, deployed and scaled independently. Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery control deployments. This way you get shorter time to results and increased flexibility. Microservices have to be independent regarding build, deployment, data management and business domains. A solid Microservices design requires single responsibility, loose coupling and a decentralized architecture. A Microservice can to be closed or open to partners and public via APIs. This session discusses the requirements, best practices and challenges for creating a good Microservices architecture, and if this spells the end of the Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). A live demo will show how middleware and Microservices complement each other using containers, continuous integration, REST services, and open source frameworks such as Cloud Foundry. A live demo showed a "Microservices Middleware Architecture" using Cloud Integration (with Cloud Foundry PaaS), Integration and Services (with TIBCO BusinessWorks Container Edition), API Management / Open API (with Mashery) amd Log Management / IT Operations Analytics (ITOA, with Papertrail and LogLogic / Unity).

Organisations are adopting microservices to keep pace with business innovation; whilst needing to meet the resilience, scalability and security requirements critical for digital solutions. Enterprise relational DBs are often a barrier to this transformation, but they needn’t be. This presentation delves into the challenges faced by enterprises during digital transformation and modernization initiatives which are often hamstrung by the inherent monolithic nature of enterprise databases. Many Oracle data-centric applications consist of an intricate web of hundreds of tables, housing hundreds of thousands of lines of PL/SQL code executed within the database via packaged procedures. These relational databases have enabled us to safely and securely manage structured data for several decades, but over time they grow more complex and harder to maintain, slowing down delivery and seriously degrading application performance, business innovation all but grinds to a halt. Given the impracticality and cost associated with complete rewrites, many organisations are turning to Microservices Architecture, to extract value from existing assets whilst gradually deconstructing the monolithic architecture to facilitate evolutionary changes. This presentation outlines a systematic and phased approach, based on experience from multiple client initiatives, highlighting the crucial role of this transformation in enabling the creation of APIs that drive new business initiatives. The concept of domain separation, a pivotal element in the migration process, will be introduced, along with options to move certain data retrieval and processing to more appropriate architectures

Kostiantyn Bokhan, a technical lead at N-IX, focuses on data science projects. He leads data science projects in several areas: Computer vision, NLP, and signal processing as well as consults clients regarding digital transformations with AI. When free, he conducts research in the deep machine learning area. Kostiantyn has been an associate professor and faculty member of several universities since 2002. His research focuses on machine learning, deep learning, signal, and image processing. He received a PhD degree in network and telecommunications systems with research in digital signal processing in 2013. He has served on the scientific committees and review boards of several conferences. Speech Overview: Applying machine learning to make business applications and services intelligent is more than just training models and serving them. It requires implementing end-to-end and continuously repeatable cycles of training, testing, deploying, monitoring, and operating the models. Continuous delivery for machine learning (CD4ML) is a technique that enables reliable end-to-end cycles of development, deploying, and monitoring machine learning models. There are a lot of tools and frameworks that can be used to implement CD4ML. One of them is Kubeflow. Our experience of using Kubeflow for implementing CD4ML for the manufacturing area based on Azure Kubernetes service will be described in this speech.
