This document discusses the past, present, and future of WordPress and WooCommerce. It notes that WordPress now powers 34.6% of websites and is the most popular content management system. WooCommerce, which was acquired by Automattic in 2015, is now used by over 76 million downloads to power ecommerce sites. The author believes WooCommerce has the potential to become even more valuable than WordPress itself in the future, as Automattic continues investing in it through additional development, partnerships, and hosted options.
2020 is just around the corner. What innovations should we expect in the coming year?
The evolution of Gutenberg is progressing quickly, and in the coming year or two we'll end up with the ability to edit most of the WordPress front-end experience (including menus, widget areas, headers, and footers). Collaboration tools and multilingual support are also in the works in the future.
Managed WordPress hosts are going strong and hosting more high-scale websites. The pioneer in the space Pagely is working with some of the leading vendors on the market.
WooCommerce is picking up after the funding Automattic took a couple months back. Gutenberg support, additional integrations, new payment gateways, extended features for some of the leading plugins.
Modern, WordPress-based applications like Google SiteKit or Pixo Editor are launching for WordPress users. Integrated functionality for 3rd party systems within the WordPress dashboard.
WordPress-specific solutions are also on the rise. Platforms like NitroPack.io provide a complete "automagic" experience for rapidly speeding up your website and improving your pagespeed score a lot.
Here's what else is coming to WordPress for enterprises and growing businesses online.

How difficult is it to port Flex and Silverlight applications to HTML5? That is the question we hear every day at ComponentOne. Instead of speculating about it, we decided to sit down and try it. Today we will discuss the process and tools we used when doing so. The approach we took was to use the MVVM pattern (from Silverlight) when developing the HTML5/JavaScript version. By choosing this method we were able to port our data access and UI layers quite easily. Our developers were able to minimize the cost of learning new paradigms in this migration by reusing most of their knowledge. What we ended up with was nearly identical applications in Silverlight and HTML5. Come learn how you can smoothly transition to HTML5!

Automating Hybrid Applications with AppiumSauce Labs
When creating a mobile application, organisations have a few options to choose from; mobile web, native or a hybrid application. Where web apps are just websites that can be accessed on the internet via a mobile browser like Chrome or Safari, native apps are applications that are developed for a specific platform such as Android or iOS. Hybrid apps are different because they possess elements from native apps and web apps.
When automating web applications, Selenium commands are used. Nine out of ten times the same automation script can be used for mobile web applications as our desktop web applications. With native apps however, we need to look deeper into the differences between Android and iOS apps before we can use Appium commands.
But how should you automate hybrid apps, can or do you need to choose one of the two automation strategies or is there also a hybrid approach for automating hybrid apps?
That’s what we are going to talk about during this webinar. We will be looking into how to detect a hybrid application for Android and iOS, the do’s and the don’ts when it comes to automating a hybrid application and we will provide you with tips and tricks on how to make this work for both Android and iOS.
By the end of this webinar, you’ll be able to create your own Appium scripts to automate Android and iOS hybrid mobile applications.
Key Takeaways:
- Understand what a hybrid mobile application is
- How to detect a hybrid mobile application
- Learn how iOS and Android handle hybrid mobile applications
- Learn how to automate hybrid mobile applications

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
