Dr. Sharron L. McPherson gave a presentation on AI and the future of learning in Africa. Our educational institutions are facing massive change and uncertainty as they adapt to new learning paradigms enabled by technologies like personalized and AI-assisted mobile learning. An integrated ecosystem is needed that brings 21st century learning to Africa through a proprietary adaptive learning platform for learners, teachers, families and communities. Technology has the potential to revolutionize education if stakeholders effectively integrate it into the educational process by improving internet access, sharing resources through cloud technologies, and facilitating mobile learning with technical support.

- 25. CONCLUSION: Firstly, enabling technologies improve broadband internet access for South African households and schools, thus promoting full and fair access to online educational resources. Secondly, cloud technologies, allow delivery of on-demand services through the network by third parties, encouraging information and content sharing, and collaborative working environments. Thirdly, mobile devices facilitate a more dynamic and user-friendly use of technology by shifting the focus from fixed connectivity, based on shared personal computers, towards mobile and multimedia personal connectivity. Lastly, technical support is a core issue for the long-term availability of technological improvements, which require constant maintenance. Education technology encompasses a wide range of tools, services and methodologies that, when used correctly and in combination, help develop the potential of the education environment
- 26. Technology for education could revolutionise the teaching and learning process; yet technology by itself does not lead to better education. It rather depends on whether the various stakeholders are able to effectively integrate the technology in the educational process.

- No industry is immune from disruption. I live in South Africa where the extractive industries employ millions of people (literally). So what happens to these industries as we move from a sharing economy to a maker economy. We’ll need to extract less from the earth, people share consumable goods more (like cars for example) and there are serious implications for sustainability, resource scarcity, and disruptors. Possible scenarios caused by disruptors in this new economic paradigm should be identified and we need to seriously plan for what is already the inevitable. What role will you play in this new economic paradigm? Feminine consciousness is greatly needed as we envision and plan for our future.
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is the one tech – in addition to Blockchain that Edtech startups, students and students agree will shape the future of learning.
- There is a creeping culture of academic disregard with respect to the intellectual demands made on students. It began in Basic Education and is now a challenge we’re facing in higher education. Students do not get to protests because exam questions are too hard. It’s not much better elsewhere either. In the US, 45% of students did not demonstrate any statistically significant improvement in Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) performance during the first two years of college.
