A long time ago, there was a fishing village
along the coast of India. For many generations
the fisherman there had worked hard to
supply enough fish for the people in the town.
One day, a fisherman, Nantorio’s
father, was caught in a thunderstorm and was
drowned.
A few days later, Nantorio sent the
broken boat for repairs, and the boat was
fixed within a week.
When Nantorio went to the market to
buy some fishing nets, he met the son of the
landlor. They were quite closely related and
used to chat if they happened to meet each
other.
The landlord’s son asked, “Why are you
buying fishing nets? Are you preparing to go to
the sea again?”
“Yes! I’m sailing my father’s boat to go
fishing tomorrow. Would you like to come?”
“Fishing? No, I’m scared.”
“What are you so afraid of?” asked
Nantorio.
“I fear the sea. Your father drowned in the
sea last week!”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“Aren’t you scared?”
“I’m fisherman’s son. A fisherman is never
afraid of the sea.”
“Now, can you tell me about your
grandfather’s job?”
“He was a fisherman too.”
“How did he die?”
“He went fishing, met with a thunderstorm
and was lost at sea.”
“What about your great-grandfather?”
“He died at sea also. He was adventurous;
he sailed to the east coast of India for pearls. He
dived into the sea there and was never seen
again.”
“They died a sea, generation after
generation. Why do you still want to go fishing?”
Nantorio asked the landlord’s son, “Your father
passed away last month. Tell me, what was the cause of
his death?”
“He died in his sleep. He was quite old and he liked
liquor.”
“How about your grandfather?”
“He had lived for a long time, and finally died at
home.”
“How about your great-grandfather?”
“He died of a heart attack.”
“Oh, my god. They all died at your house, and yet
you still live in that house. Don’t you fell scared?”
The son of the landlord was tongue-tied after this.
