The Ethics Of Chefs Buying Locally Organic Foods
If chefs chose only to buy locally sourced foods not only would thousands metric tons of Carbon
Dioxide (CO2) be eradicated and local economies grow, but would pave way for a revolutionary
trend, our planet's health may depend on this. In todays consuming world, the ethical importance of
chefs buying locally sourced foods are threefold, lowers the use of carbon emissions of produce
transportation, availability to fresher, more flavourful foods in the market, and supports local
economies to thrive. Ethically, to "eat local" seems like common sense for thee betterment of the
environment and the community.
––––––––––––
In order to discuss the importance of chefs using locally grown foods, one must first define "local
foods". This proves to be difficult when the definition of local foods varies depending on where you
live. "A 2008 Leopold Institute survey of consumers throughout the United States found that two–
thirds considered local food to mean food grown within 100 miles." (DeWeerdt, S. (2009, June). Is
Local Food Better? Retrieved from http://www.worldwatch.org/node/6064) Others will interpret it
as food grown within the immediate region, city, country, or 1 day to reach the market from the
farm. *citation*
With the growing trend to reduce carbon emissions, chefs and restaurants are aware that food
traveling greater distances has a direct impact on the carbon footprint and global warming. Chefs
and the public are searching for ways to reduce their carbon footprint. In

Homelessness : The Homeless, Local Authorities, Commercial...
Homelessness is a desperate situation in which an individual or family may find themselves without
a permanent home. The relationship between the homeless, local authorities, commercial businesses,
and neighborhood residents is an important one. Its challenges affect those who wish to help, those
in need, and those affected by the causation of the two. The trials of the homeless often include
navigating the streets as well as navigating program bureaucracy in an effort to obtain services
leaving, often negative, perceptions on residents and businesses. Many assumptions are made about
the homeless and the curious wonder why many seem to remain without basic needs, skirting
societal norms of obtaining gainful employment and maintaining a residence, despite the availability
of community aid. These assumptions affect how the homeless are perceived and the manner in
which they are regarded. One assumption about the homeless is that they are lazy and aren't hard
working, and aren't interested in becoming self–sufficient. Conversely, many do seek a better life,
but their efforts may be marked by misfortune. Darius Bryant was almost out of high school when
his mother became unable to care for him. He was college bound and found himself staying over
with friends or shelters and, eventually, unsure from where his next meal would come (Bauer, 2012).
Eventually, he arrived at the acquaintance of Pastor Scott Eberlein of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Large Corporations Essay
LARGE CORPORATIONS MEAN BUSINESS!
ANTHONY J. FRANKO
ENG 122: ENLISH COMPOSITION II
INSTRUCTOR SHANNON BILUNAS
JANUARY 7, 2013
Large corporations such as Wal–Mart or Home Depot often come under criticism for putting mom–
and–pop shops out of business. While this may be a valid criticism, the consumers neglect to realize
that they play the biggest part in shutting these businesses down. Consumers across the country are
always looking for the best deals or the lowest prices, and in most cases the larger corporations are
where products can be found at the lowest price. Many small business owners and the populations of
small towns dislike large corporations moving into the area because they believe it negatively

This leads to a stronger local economy, and ultimately a thriving community. Stores like Wal–Mart
are famous for keeping their prices so low. This is one reason why they are able to maintain a grip
on the consumers of an area. They accomplish this by keeping the cost to produce and transport the
goods low. In January, a study by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp. found that,
"an individual family could save $589 a year on groceries by shopping at a supercenter. Overall,
shoppers could save $3.76 billion in merchandise nationwide." (Blazier, A, 2004) A major reason
they can keep prices lower than mom–and–pop run businesses is their ability to buy merchandise in
bulk. Buying in bulk works the same way it does for a consumer. The more of a product that is
purchased, the less the cost is per unit. Consumers see this every day when they go to stores like
Sam's Club or Costco. When they buy their merchandise in bulk, they are able to offer it to the
consumer at a lower price. (Kale, 2011) This is what could eventually drive the mom–and–pop
owned businesses out of the area, and draw a negative criticism from the public. The interesting
thing about this criticism is that the public complains about Wal–Mart

Synthesis Essay On Eating Locally
Eating local is a simple change, but can make a difference in a few aspects. Food is able to stay on
the vine longer and grow more nutrients for your body and money you spend locally will recycle
through your community. Locavorism is becoming more popular and farmers' markets a high
demand since more people are discovering the benefits of it. Overall, it proves to be better for
everyone when you buy and eat locally grown food.
Eating locally grown food is better for you. When food is grown far away, packaged harshly, and
shipped in less–than–pleasant conditions, it isn't as fresh when it actually reaches your family's
dinner plates. Food that travels farther distances doesn't have the strong vitamins and minerals our
bodies need because "[f]ood begins to lose nutrition as soon as it is harvested" (Source B). But local
farmers are able to sustain the nutrition by allowing the food to "ripen until the last possible minute
on the vine" (Source A), and you receive fresh food with nutritious vitamins and minerals in full. ...

When you buy an apple at a farmer's market nearby, although you may pay a little extra, your money
is well spent on your delicious and nutritious produce, as well as paying that farmer for his hard
work. When you buy an apple at Walmart, supposing you may pay less, your money is spent on
mediocre tasting produce that was shipped from far away, in a land where Walmart promotes cheap
labor. Your money should be spent inside your community because "a dollar spent locally generates
twice as much income for the local economy." But "[w]hen businesses are not owned locally, money
leaves the community at every transaction," according to a study by the New Economics Foundation

Locavore Movement Essay
The Locavore Movement The locavore movement has become increasingly popular over the last
decade. Locavores are people who prefer to eat food that is locally grown and doesn't travel long
distances before getting to their plates. This thought process is slowly changing the way people eat
and the ideals people consider when choosing food to eat. Along with this fresh perspective on
where our food comes from, the movement provides a innovative ideal towards what is sustainable
and what is not sustainable. While the definition of local is dependent on the buyer the effect is the
same. The locavore movement has a positive impact on the local communities through improving
the income and number of local farms that fosters good communities, and increasing the nutritional
value of food eaten. With an increase of interest in local communities and their economies, any
businesses involved in the community will benefit. Since the locavore movement began there have
been tremendous improvements on the income local farms receive. In a study ... Show more content

In reality this movement, while for the time being, is considered a 'trend' the movement is growing
into a way of life. As stated by Anthony Flaccavento "These are ordinary, middle–income folks who
have become really engaged in food and really care where their food comes from." (Source E) This
interest in where food comes from does not mean that they are attempting to be, as Flaccavento so
beautifully put it, a "fringe foodie culture". It is a group of ordinary people that are invested in the
origin and the nutritional value of their own food. While for some people just knowing the story of
their food makes them more comfortable with what they're putting into their bodies rather than
having to wonder what the food was grown in and what happened to it in the long trip from crop
fields to factories to super

Est1 Task 1 Local Government
Establishing a formal government on the newly secured property called Pequena Isla would take a
great deal of consideration to ensure prosperity in the future.
Local government
Pequena Isla will use a general purpose and perform essential services such as law enforcement,
park services, maintaining roads, human services and public works (Dye & MacManus, 2015). To
ensure quality educational services, they will also use a special purpose government to establish and
maintain school districts (Dye & MacManus, 2015).
Form of government
A rural county government would make for an excellent political structure while giving the residents
common services. It would also give private businesses opportunities for maintenance, healthcare,
waste disposal services, and recreational services, which would not only bring business and jobs but
more citizens as well. The services our government would provide ... Show more content on

Management system
To allow future growth Pequena Isla will utilize the more professional and versatile county
administrator structure Isla. This type of government would let the local elected officials work on
the legislative aspects while hiring a highly qualified individual to manage the county operations. It
would also be beneficial because some of the elected county members may not be experienced
leading a county, but this would give the count the opportunity to hire a knowledgeable and capable
person to manage the county.

overlapping to ensure an experienced commissioner is in office at all times ((Dye & MacManus,

New Economics Consultant Charged With Analyze The Various...
I've been hired by cities mayor and am now the newest economics consultant charged with analyze
the various local businesses market structures. This city has numerous businesses which leads to
many different market structures. There are large factories or plants, almost every chain fast food
restaurant, nicer sit down restaurants, mom and pop shops, along with our share of Wal–Mart's and
other larger all in one stores, and we also have the city ran utilities. This town is competitive and
thriving with a strong economical foundation fueled by a good sized population to keep many
businesses from having to look too far for employees. New businesses have opened recently and are
thriving. With keeping a good mix of market structures the economy will continue to grow. Multiple
market structures will help to create a thriving economy, although they are all different, they provide
income to the city in way of taxes, employment to our citizens, and understanding how each
operates and prices their goods can help this city prepare for its financial future. We will need to
analyze each market separately to show the differences and the similarities so as to understand their
effects on the community and whether they allow room for entry and exit of new firms in order to
grow our city economically. There are four market structures that I will provide analysis on. Perfect

Local Foods And Local Food
The local food movement connects both producers and consumers in the same geographic region
which develops a more community reliant food system. Local foods impact the local community,
environment, one's health, and the overall society. Local food does not have a definite answer, but it
does involve many subjects which are all distinguishable throughout the food system. Local food
could also represent the distance from the farm to the table. If local food is distributed straight to a
food hub, or a farmers market, or a grocery store, then the food could be considered local. If the
food is distributed to a manufacturer, or a warehouse that delivers the food to a grocery store, then
the food would not be considered local. This would not be considered local because the food is
being carried to multiple different areas which increases food miles. There are many goals that are
put in place from many local food supporters that involve food hubs, community gardens, and
farmer markets that all want to create a more sustainable local food system. Local food systems help
the local economy and allows consumers to buy products from their local farmers, and communities.
Some urban areas are in high risk of poverty and it does not allow for locals to buy healthy foods for
their families. They are at risk for their health from the foods they have to buy considering what they
can and cannot afford. Also, there are many urban communities who are creating a more local food

Organic Locally Sourced Food
On the other hand, costs do rise when purchasing organic, locally sourced food because big food
sellers like Wal–mart can afford to sell at lower prices. In response, Sara Vinson of Yellow Hen
Farm in Covington recognizes that these small farms are "not trying to compete with Wal–mart" in
view of higher prices for local farm produce. Higher prices make sense, though, as more manpower
has been put into organically grown food than industrially produced products. Often, weeding and
harvesting will require hours of labor since pesticide use is not allowed on an organic farm.
The issue of high prices for organic and locally grown food leads to the issue of food equity which is

It may very well involve acting in the political arena, or simply educating people and raising
awareness about the benefits we have seen local farms provide for their respective communities. In
recent times there has been criticism of the industrial, large–scale food production because it relies
largely on chemicals which can contaminate the water supply, harm workers as well as consumers.
Corporate farming and an increasingly centralized system have influenced the cost of food and how
much farmers are paid, increased the size of farms and ranches and have decreased their number. It
is because of environmental concerns and the demand for quality produce that organic, local food

The Reduction Of Taxes May Be A Good Thing Essay
When given the option to merge three municipalities, people, living within these towns, would seem
hesitant to choose to support the merging because of a lack of support showing that this a good
thing. The lack of research done on the effects of merging of three towns, shows that nobody really
know what will happen if the consolidation was passed. The three towns of Round Lake Beach, and
Round Lake Park would merge into one Round Lake area, as well as, all the business and public
services that each town offers would merge into one. The people in support of this merger suggest
that merging these three town will save the townspeople money by reducing taxes the people
pay. There is a lack of evidence to show how much money merging the three towns would save. The
reduction of taxes may be a good thing but it affects more than just the local businesses, local
governments, it has effects over the schools and their teachers, police departments, hospitals, and
fire departments. People might be for the consolidation because it would save them some money on
their taxes. Many retired local government officials believe that taxpayers are not saving money
because they are paying for three separate governments and each town has to pay for its own police.
Others might see it as a good thing because the town one might live in could improve with the extra
money that all the businesses would bring into the merged town, as well as, "[they] wouldn't have to

that too often are elbowed aside by national chain giants. "It's an insider's perspective of the town

The free books, distributed through boutiques, doctors' offices, antique shops, art galleries, and

would include special restaurants, clothing boutiques, kitchen renovators, interior designers,
realtors, artists, salons, home builders, wealth managers, doctors, garden designers, photographers,
caterers, and maybe a private school or preschool. So many small businesses are owned by women–
the latest figures show that women own 30 percent of all enterprises, a number that is increasing at a
rate 1 ½ times the national average–that it is no surprise to find many of the businesses featured are
female–owned.
But, The Scout Guide is just the printed side of the business model. Equally important is the social
media aspect–the blog that promotes each enterprise and the messages and photos sent out on
Twitter and Instagram to readers who want to keep up with their favorite shops, restaurants, and
designers.

The New Castle Town Council
In 2008 the New Castle Town Council appointed an eleven–member Steering Committee made up
of local residents, business interests, and members of the Planning Commission and Town Council
to guide a new vision for the long–term growth and development of the community. This effort was
in response to pending growth pressures, for which the community was not fully prepared. After
some months and considerable community input, the Planning Commission recommended and the
Town Council adopted the Town of New Castle Comprehensive Plan on May 27, 2009.
Prior to the adoption of the Plan, the National and local economies were strong. As a result, New
Castle had begun to experience significant change. The intent of the Plan was to establish a path for
community growth that, while accommodating new housing, businesses, services, jobs, parks/open
spaces, non–motorized access systems, transportation, environmental protection and community
infrastructure, would ensure that growth and change would not adversely the small–town character
and community values that residents wanted to preserve.
As the community planning process neared its conclusion, the National economy began to
experience a slow–down, which in time became significant. Growth and development in the Roaring
Fork and Colorado River Valleys also were affected. This economic downturn fundamentally
stopped new development activity in New Castle. Moe recently, while the upper valley resort

Leap Of The Brethren Pantry Summary
Least of the Brethren is a local food pantry in Pinkneyville, it is where I am choosing to plunge for

students that attend school in our area. I feel it is important to understand the needs in our area in
order to connect with future students and their families. To be very honest, I know there is a great
need for support in our area. However, I assume the families that need this support also receive
government assistance through programs such as WIC and Link. Plunging into this culture I hope to

During the break the volunteers asked us several questions. From what I gathered all of the
volunteers also need the assistance of the pantry. Many asked us how they could help us, assuming
we had fallen on hard times. I assured them they we were just there to help them and donate our
time. Volunteers receive each goods in their boxes in return for their help.
Application of Plunge Experience Prior to taking the plunge I was not aware that even with
government programs there is still a need for pantries in our local area. This brings a very large
challenge to my educational environment. I will need to find out which students will require this
need to be addressed. As a classroom teacher, I will need to bring awareness to the students that do
not have this need that a part of their role in our community is to help those in need. This can be
done through volunteering and donations.
The challenge that individuals from the group will bring to the education environment is one that
directly impact their learning. It is well understood that children cannot learn until their most basic
needs are met. Yes, we offer free breakfast to students, but many arrive too late to receive this
service and often one muffin is not enough to address their hunger. This plunge made me aware of

The New America Dream is Green (and Sustainable) Essay
Smallville is a city just like any other city in the world. It has crime, pollution, and social
inequalities. However citizens everywhere are dreaming of the future. The reason people came to
Smallville, or America, in the first place was to live the American Dream. This idea is that if a
person works hard enough they can be or achieve anything they want. However, the current system
of selfishness and ignorance of the masses has led to the destruction of this idea. In order for these
dreams to survive, Smallville needs to promote change. There needs to be more information about
the effects people have on their communities and the environment. There needs to be a shift towards
long–term sustainability. Before there can be greener ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every individual needs to change the way they view themselves and those around them. In the
United States there is this idea written in the constitution called The Pursuit of Happiness. It
basically means that in America you have the chance to live how you want to, or what is referred to
as the American Dream. Overtime this dream has become too selfish, meaning that people only seek
to make themselves happy regardless of those around them. When a community is more open and
accepting there will be less conflicts. The reason this needs to happen on the individual level is that
everyone needs to be on board for real change to occur successfully in Smallville. The first thing
that needs to change about the individual is the idea of respect. If everyone can learn to respect
themselves and those around them, even for differing views, the community can work together a lot
easier. Then the next thing that would need to change about the individual would be the way they
live their lives. Each citizen would need to change their eating habits, their energy use habits, and
overall lifestyle habits. Then finally, the individual will need to find their place in society. Once they
realize how connected to the community they are and how much damage they do to it, they can
learn what they need to do to fix it. One thing they could do to fix it is practice vegetarianism. They
could also walk to work or the stores instead of using their car. Finally, the government needs to be

local food movement is and why they should participate in this growing social trend.
INTRODUCTION: Have you ever been looking around the grocery store and wondered, where did
this mango come from? Or how did this corn get here? Well, last month I went on a grocery store
tour led by Fresno State students in the Dietetics department and that's when I really started to look
around at the variety of foods brought to our Fresno grocery stores. I was surprised to find out that
much of the food in the grocery store may not even be from the United States. Foods can be shipped
in to the United States from any country, for example beef from Argentina, lamb from New Zealand,
grapes from Chile, mangoes from Mexico, tomatoes from Holland, and bananas from Central
America. It's astonishing to think that most of our food does not come from California even though
there are approximately 76,400 farms in California. Even more so, according to National
Agricultural Statistic Service, California accounts for 2/3 of the United State's fruit and nut
production. Also, 1/3 of the United States vegetable production originates in California. Lastly,
California produces 1 out of every 5 gallons of milk in the United States. However, despite all the

difficult due to the fact that modern society has expanded and is continuing to grow all the time.
Locavores are people who only eat food within a 100 mile radius.(source g) The idea of being a
locavore is new but slightly unnecessary due to the era of production our society lives on today.
Foods shipped from far places may be lacking the nutrients that any other fruit or vegetable grown

of a difference, not enough to affect a person's health anyways. Considering the fast–paced societies

look for different work. If all the farmers in New Zealand are focusing on supplying the US than no
one is focused on what percent of foods stay locally in New Zealand. Therefore a major movement

country. Many jobs will be lost, many families will be homeless, and many families will split

Farm To Table Movement
One of the biggest trends in the culinary world today is the farm–to–table movement. The phrase
"farm to table" is a phrase referring to food made with locally sourced ingredients. Our society is in
a rapid state of technological innovation, which means that we often compromise health and
nutrition for the sake of convenience. However, a growing number of consumers have started to
seek healthier and more environmentally friendly alternatives to the processed foods that dominate
grocery store shelves.
More than ever, Americans are looking for local food. The farm–to–table movement is also
changing the expectations for restaurants. The cost can come at a premium for some businesses,
which are still dealing with the challenges that serving local food can present. For the consumer, the
purpose may be helping to build a strong economy by supporting local agriculture, knowing where
the food comes from and farming practices used, or reducing the number of transportation miles and
insuring they are getting the freshest products.
As the trend grows, so does the demand for farmers to provide produce to sell, either through

Social Responsibility And Its Impact On Society
In today's economy, consumers are more inclined to shop at their local big box retailer where they
can get plenty of selection at low prices instead of limited products and market rates. Being a mid–
sized local grocery has its challenges when competing with these national chains, and Company Q is
no different. Locally owned and operated businesses are an essential part of today's society. Too
often companies stress the quantity of profits over the quality of products. Not only do these kinds
of choices belay negative social responsibility, this type of attitude can damage a growing business's
reputation. Company Q's lack of concern for the underlying welfare of some of its primary
stakeholders shows an attitude of impartiality towards the bottom line. Social responsibility is no
longer expressed by how much money a company donates to charity, but by their overall
participation in the community to enrich the quality of citizen's lives.
In the past, businesses primarily concerned themselves with the economic results of their decisions.
Company Q's attitude toward social responsibility is more in line with the greedy shareholder model
than that of the cooperating stakeholder model. The shareholder model ensures that the investors and
owners get the lion's share of the profits, whereas the stakeholder focuses on the feasibility of
success to satisfy its stockholders. In this particular situation, the primary stakeholders are namely

I am a serious bargain shopper. I try to save wherever I can. That usually means buying products

The Mayor Case Study
The Role of the Mayor
Introduction to the Issue
This essay aims to examine the role of the mayor in regards to the politics of local government in
Ontario. The process of the development of public policy has shifted considerably during the last
few decades. Due to the advent of globalization and of social media, public sector decision making
has expanded to include more stakeholders than ever before. As a result, mayors have come under
significant pressures to engage not only political actors in decision making, but also communities
and individuals as well, which changes the way that they operate in their public role. This indicates
that the idea of municipal governance may also be changing within the minds of citizens. This essay
will draw on a case study based on the city of Mississauga and its needs from the mayor and city
council. This essay strives to provide insight into the process of developing a strong mayoral
strategy using the example of the city of Mississauga, looking at its current and future plans for

Questions On Online Reviews For Local Businesses Essay
According to Search Engine Land, "92% of consumers read online reviews for local businesses."
This upward trend shows the value of customers and how their experiences can greatly affect your
online presence.
Research also tells us that "72% of consumers say that positive reviews make them trust a local
business more." It's similar to a personal recommendation.
Therefore, it's up to your team to create quality relationships with buyers. These connections will
build trust and offer key insights on how to improve service.
However, some companies practice shady tricks to bolster their brands. And that's a problem.
It's so major that potential customers alienate your brand and try a competitor. So, is your company
walking the tightrope of online reviews? Find out.
Here are five reasons your online reviews repel potential customers:
1. You Don't Respond to Negative Reviews
Customer feedback is built on the consumer's experience with your brand.
Whether it's a normal reflection of how you run your business is not up for discussion. It's all about
how the customer felt after interacting with your company.
So, don't be alarmed when a negative review appears on Yelp. Instead of ignoring the customer's
complaints, try something different.
Respond to negative reviews.
Terry Powell, founder of AdviCoach, recommends the following: "To gain back trust after a scathing
review, make sure you say something as soon as possible. A quick response shows that the business

The Main Problems of Economic Development of Kazakhstan's...
The economic framework of local governance
The economic foundations of the local government of the Republic of Kazakhstan are:
– Municipal property;
– Local finance;
– Property in state ownership and transferred to the management of local governments.
The material and financial resources, which are the economic foundation of local government,
determine in fact the efficiency of local government. The economic foundation for local governance
is a set of legal norms that regulate social relations and which in turn, linked to the development and
use of municipal property, local budgets and other local finance in the public interest the

Thus, the impact of economic and social changes reflected in the expenditure budget. Budget
expenditures – funds allocated from the budget for non–repayable basis within the approved budget.
As already mentioned, depending on the program (state, local) expenditure of funds for their
implementation is made from the relevant budget.
Expenditures of local budgets are carried out in areas identified by the Budget Code.
The budget as the organization of financial relations coexist two trends:
1. The centralization of the system of forms and methods of traffic management of financial
resources as a reflection of a more general process of centralization in managing the economy to
overcome the crisis and stabilize;
2. Decentralization of finance with the increased functions of local government and administrative
bodies in the formation and use of financial funds. The second trend is justified by the approximate
nature of local authorities to local conditions, their greater interest in the socio–economic
development of territories. The principle of the administration of financial relationships is the ability
to exercise control of finance: the less specific financial terms amenable to formal verification, the
more desirable its assignment to a decentralized management, and vice versa, with well–controlled –
for centralized management. Global financial theory and practice specify that the local (local)

Case Study Of Chief Davis Executive Style
After carefully reading the case studies, I concluded that Chief Davis' executive style is in line with
The Statesman and Chief Fortier's executive style is in line with The Administrator. The Statesman
style stresses leadership and Chief Davis had a strong subordinate leadership in which he allowed
their thoughts and ideas to be put into place (Cordner, 2016). The Statesman focuses on the
department's interests by being in constant contact with the community as well as the government
and gives them tasks in order to provide leadership within the community. Chief Davis focused on
building support from outside of the agency by becoming transparent with the community and by
allowing them to see what decisions were being made. Chief Davis had strong ties to the local
businesses and as a result, they heavily supported the Lowell Police Department. A strong indicator
that the LPD had the backing of their community was that a fundraiser "led by a local businessman
to raise some $200,000 to buy the department's mobile precinct" (Cordner, 2016, p. 488). Chief
Davis also had the strong support from Senator Paul Tsongas, who was a resident of Lowell and
worked well with the city government. By being involved in the local government as well as the
university and businesses in Lowell, Chief Davis was extremely successful in getting community
and monetary support for his department (Cordner, 2016). Chief Davis was also successful in
convincing the residents in the community to build a new precinct in the crime riddled Cambodian
neighborhood. This was largely done because he had the trust and support of the community as well
as seeking the help and advice from outside of the department in Linda Hart. Chief Davis even was
able to win over one of his non supporters by hiring Cambodian and Latino officers to help close the
communication gap between the police department and the minority communities. The Statesman
can often have a negative impact on a department because the department members feel that he or
she loses touch of who they are representing, but Chief Davis never lost the trust of his personnel
and built a supporting coalition inside as well as outside of the department. The Administrator style

Thus, economic growth is determined by the ratio of necessity entrepreneurship and opportunity
entrepreneurship. Following his argument, if unemployed people start new businesses, the
phenomenon is considered as necessity entrepreneurship. It can be inferred that there is a highly
positive relationship between necessity entrepreneurship (self–employment) and a number of
unemployed. As the "supply push" effect of unemployment, Koellinger & Thurik (2012) find that
rising unemployment can cause new start–up activities. By using the Granger causality analysis,
they conclude that "entrepreneurship is often an escape route for people who have lost their jobs to
make a living" (Koellinger & Thurik, 2012: 1149). It is not surprising that there is empirical
evidence showing that necessity entrepreneurship is hard to success. Necessity entrepreneurship and
people who experience a long–term unemployment tend to be considerably less satisfied with their
businesses (Block & Koellinger, 2009). The low satisfaction can be explained by motivation
(aspiration) and the decision process itself. In particular, the authors specifically explain the reasons:
necessity entrepreneurship usually lost an opportunity of free will, and it leads to low satisfaction.
Hence, it is reasonable to expect that if unemployed people have an opportunity to prepare their
startups through learning relevant skills and knowledge

Sports And The National Football League
Introduction
There are currently four major professional athletic leagues in America: the National Football
League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the
National Hockey League (NHL). When fans watch their home teams play, it brings great pleasure
and excitement to those who love sports, especially when their home team wins a game. Even if
they do not win, fans will stick by their teams. Local businesses go great lengths to show support for
their local teams. For example, the Reunion Tower in Dallas changes its light colors to support the
local teams on game days. Sports also have a way of connecting fans with places as they cheer for a
touchdown, homerun, or goal at public restaurants and bars. Because team owners are aware that pro
sports play an important role in American society, they brainstorm for new ways to earn additional
income besides selling merchandise and tickets. Now, Sports team owners want to build new state of
the art arenas with premium seats, suites, clubs, and bars to obtain more revenue. The only thing is,
they are not the only ones paying for it. It has become more and more popular in America for
taxpayers to fund renovated or new professional sports arenas located in their cities. However, one
question that ponders the mind of taxpayers is, should the public have to fund the construction of a
renovated or new sports arena in their town? According to Pacific Standards magazine, "Over the

To what extent does success in china depend on businesses...
Success for a business in a large market such as china can be a very difficult thing to achieve; there
are many factors that can affect the success or failure of a business that decides to merge into
China's markets. Most people would assume that due to the very large population of china (roughly
1.35 billion/1,363,496,913) operating a business there would not be a problem, this however is
incorrect, just because there is lots of people there doesn't for a minute make it any easier to set u–p
and run a successful business.
The main point I would say that is essential to success in china is adaptation. If a business is able to

Making their chain stores very traditional and fitting with the local culture. Surprisingly Starbucks
charges as much as 50% more for some of its products in China than in the U.S., the U.K. and India,
but yet it is still a huge success, this is because the business catered well for the needs and adapted.
Carrying a Starbucks cup is seen as a status symbol, a way to demonstrate sophistication and the
capability to afford a personal luxury for the up–and–coming middle class in China. This links into
the brand recognition that Starbucks has created for itself and shows how they carefully targeted
their products at the new middle class, it is estimated that it's more than 300 million, already larger

population and as Starbucks has such a recognisable brand people are more liable to visit the store.
However, that being said some large companies have tried to adapt for the Chinese markets, and
failed despite their efforts. One large well known company that can be an example of this is

disadvantages of working within the family business first, moving on to discuss the advantages later.
After presenting this analyses, they further go on to present six hypotheses to readers based on

conflict, both of which come from working with one's family in the family business. Through
studying and analyzing their hypotheses, using the interviews to ascertain the validity of their
claims, the authors come to the conclusion that more benefits come out of the dual status that comes

However there are additional threats and limitations that might affect foreign businesses, particularly
retailers. Especially, taking into consideration a significant role that local government plays in the
Chinese market.
The growing concern for retailers is that the Chinese government is discussing adopting
protectionist regulations in the retail industry. New regulations are showing signs already as the
local government has selected a group of local retailers and is giving them financial support. It is the
first stage of formation of the "national champions" – local retail companies which are expected to
become the leaders of the retail industry. There are many reason why the Chinese government is
compelled to undertake these actions such as the retail industry is expanding at a fast rate and from
the local population's perspective the key industry players that benefit from it the most are foreign
companies. This viewpoint pressurises the government to protect the local retail chains, which are
not able to compete against international retail giants because of the insufficient financial resources.
Therefore these regulations are expected to favour domestic retailers in allocation of strategic
locations and have been highly welcomed by national retailers. Under these circumstances it is of
utmost importance for foreign retailers to re–assess their future strategies. As it was mentioned

Entry Into A Foreign Market Demands That Business Leaders...
Entry into a foreign market demands that business leaders carefully weigh the most effective
strategy. The most important choice an organization would need to make prior to entering a new
market, is determine if their mode of entry should involve an equity stake or not (Evans, 2005). This
paper will present two theoretical business scenarios that would be best served by either a non–
equity entry or an equity based entry.
Non–Equity Based Market Entry Peng (2014) provides the example of exporting goods as a non–
equity entry into a foreign market. Exporting provides an ideal means for a small business to
insulate itself from fluctuations in the local economy, and expand its customer base (Mules, 2014).
An ideal example of an organization which could potentially reap the benefits of exportation would
be a local food manufacture (Del Piano, 2015). A hypothetical exporter could be an Atlanta–based
company which produces peach salsa using locally grown ingredients. Peng (2014) notes that the
direct–export model provides numerous benefits for the business. First, exporting opens
opportunities for economies of scale to increase. Mules (2014) states that by increasing the number
of products produced, the cost of producing an individual item decreases. In other words, as the
business increases production to meet the demand of a larger client–base, their cost per item
decreases. Exporting provides a rapid increase in the economy of scale of the organization's
operations (Peng,

Casino Legislation Impacts The Local And State Economy
Casino legislation impacts the local and state economy. How it affects the economy fluctuates
depending on surrounding circumstances. These circumstances include location and who owns the
casino. A local casino will result in changes in Government revenue, public services, and
surrounding businesses. Casinos bring a local economy a new tax source and new jobs but it is
crucial to look further to see if casinos boost the local economy. In one article the writers state the
benefits of the new casino including new jobs and investment. Felsentein, Littlepage, & Klacik
(2000) then explain that many casino jobs however require some specific training. This means many
employees commute to work. Also some of local casino employees leave previous jobs in
community to come work in the casino. The casino is not creating for the local economy if workers
are commuting or leaving old jobs (Felsentein, Littlepage, & Klacik, 2000)
Where a casino is located is critical to how it affects the economy. A typical local casino does not
bring money to the area like Las Vegas or Atlantic City does. This is because most gamblers in these
two areas are tourist. Tourists bring money to an economy. In many local casinos the gamblers live
in the same city as the casino. When this is the case, gamblers are not bringing money to the
economy; they are transferring money that was already in the local economy. In an article written in

The Importance Of Local Government
What is local government and how does something much smaller than the bigger picture have an
more immense impact on individual's lives? Local government is the administration, of a district,
state, or county, in which the citizen elects the officials corresponding to their particular area. Local
government is essential throughout America. It entitles people the right to have a say in what is
going on in their community, on a governmental stance. Local government, moreover, establishes
and enforce local laws. Local government, furthermore, is responsible for establishing and
delivering a range of quality to their community. Local government sets the direction in which they
want to see their region going in. Local government uses a long–term plan in which they set:
financial plans, council plans, municipal strategic statement, and other strategic tactics. With the use
of the tactics, they determine how they want their region to progress. People should be concerned
about their local government because it allows them to have a say in what happens in their
community, and it makes local laws which directly affect the people in their region.
As previously stated, local government entitles people the right to have a say in their local
government. How would you feel if you had no say in what is happening in your community? Local
government gives individuals the capability to say what should happen in their community. It gives
people that "fail–safe" that they have the ability to

The Ethics Of Chefs Buying Locally Organic Foods

  • 1. The Ethics Of Chefs Buying Locally Organic Foods If chefs chose only to buy locally sourced foods not only would thousands metric tons of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) be eradicated and local economies grow, but would pave way for a revolutionary trend, our planet's health may depend on this. In todays consuming world, the ethical importance of chefs buying locally sourced foods are threefold, lowers the use of carbon emissions of produce transportation, availability to fresher, more flavourful foods in the market, and supports local economies to thrive. Ethically, to "eat local" seems like common sense for thee betterment of the environment and the community. –––––––––––– In order to discuss the importance of chefs using locally grown foods, one must first define "local foods". This proves to be difficult when the definition of local foods varies depending on where you live. "A 2008 Leopold Institute survey of consumers throughout the United States found that two– thirds considered local food to mean food grown within 100 miles." (DeWeerdt, S. (2009, June). Is Local Food Better? Retrieved from http://www.worldwatch.org/node/6064) Others will interpret it as food grown within the immediate region, city, country, or 1 day to reach the market from the farm. *citation* With the growing trend to reduce carbon emissions, chefs and restaurants are aware that food traveling greater distances has a direct impact on the carbon footprint and global warming. Chefs and the public are searching for ways to reduce their carbon footprint. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Homelessness : The Homeless, Local Authorities, Commercial... Homelessness is a desperate situation in which an individual or family may find themselves without a permanent home. The relationship between the homeless, local authorities, commercial businesses, and neighborhood residents is an important one. Its challenges affect those who wish to help, those in need, and those affected by the causation of the two. The trials of the homeless often include navigating the streets as well as navigating program bureaucracy in an effort to obtain services leaving, often negative, perceptions on residents and businesses. Many assumptions are made about the homeless and the curious wonder why many seem to remain without basic needs, skirting societal norms of obtaining gainful employment and maintaining a residence, despite the availability of community aid. These assumptions affect how the homeless are perceived and the manner in which they are regarded. One assumption about the homeless is that they are lazy and aren't hard working, and aren't interested in becoming self–sufficient. Conversely, many do seek a better life, but their efforts may be marked by misfortune. Darius Bryant was almost out of high school when his mother became unable to care for him. He was college bound and found himself staying over with friends or shelters and, eventually, unsure from where his next meal would come (Bauer, 2012). Eventually, he arrived at the acquaintance of Pastor Scott Eberlein of Trinity Lutheran Church. "Pastor Scott," as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Large Corporations Essay LARGE CORPORATIONS MEAN BUSINESS! ANTHONY J. FRANKO ENG 122: ENLISH COMPOSITION II INSTRUCTOR SHANNON BILUNAS JANUARY 7, 2013 Large corporations such as Wal–Mart or Home Depot often come under criticism for putting mom– and–pop shops out of business. While this may be a valid criticism, the consumers neglect to realize that they play the biggest part in shutting these businesses down. Consumers across the country are always looking for the best deals or the lowest prices, and in most cases the larger corporations are where products can be found at the lowest price. Many small business owners and the populations of small towns dislike large corporations moving into the area because they believe it negatively effects the local ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This leads to a stronger local economy, and ultimately a thriving community. Stores like Wal–Mart are famous for keeping their prices so low. This is one reason why they are able to maintain a grip on the consumers of an area. They accomplish this by keeping the cost to produce and transport the goods low. In January, a study by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp. found that, "an individual family could save $589 a year on groceries by shopping at a supercenter. Overall, shoppers could save $3.76 billion in merchandise nationwide." (Blazier, A, 2004) A major reason they can keep prices lower than mom–and–pop run businesses is their ability to buy merchandise in bulk. Buying in bulk works the same way it does for a consumer. The more of a product that is purchased, the less the cost is per unit. Consumers see this every day when they go to stores like Sam's Club or Costco. When they buy their merchandise in bulk, they are able to offer it to the consumer at a lower price. (Kale, 2011) This is what could eventually drive the mom–and–pop owned businesses out of the area, and draw a negative criticism from the public. The interesting thing about this criticism is that the public complains about Wal–Mart ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Synthesis Essay On Eating Locally Eating local is a simple change, but can make a difference in a few aspects. Food is able to stay on the vine longer and grow more nutrients for your body and money you spend locally will recycle through your community. Locavorism is becoming more popular and farmers' markets a high demand since more people are discovering the benefits of it. Overall, it proves to be better for everyone when you buy and eat locally grown food. Eating locally grown food is better for you. When food is grown far away, packaged harshly, and shipped in less–than–pleasant conditions, it isn't as fresh when it actually reaches your family's dinner plates. Food that travels farther distances doesn't have the strong vitamins and minerals our bodies need because "[f]ood begins to lose nutrition as soon as it is harvested" (Source B). But local farmers are able to sustain the nutrition by allowing the food to "ripen until the last possible minute on the vine" (Source A), and you receive fresh food with nutritious vitamins and minerals in full. ... When you buy an apple at Walmart, supposing you may pay less, your money is spent on mediocre tasting produce that was shipped from far away, in a land where Walmart promotes cheap labor. Your money should be spent inside your community because "a dollar spent locally generates twice as much income for the local economy." • 11. Locavore Movement Essay The Locavore Movement The locavore movement has become increasingly popular over the last decade. Locavores are people who prefer to eat food that is locally grown and doesn't travel long distances before getting to their plates. This thought process is slowly changing the way people eat and the ideals people consider when choosing food to eat. Along with this fresh perspective on where our food comes from, the movement provides a innovative ideal towards what is sustainable and what is not sustainable. While the definition of local is dependent on the buyer the effect is the same. The locavore movement has a positive impact on the local communities through improving the income and number of local farms that fosters good communities, and increasing the nutritional value of food eaten. With an increase of interest in local communities and their economies, any businesses involved in the community will benefit. Since the locavore movement began there have been tremendous improvements on the income local farms receive. In a study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In reality this movement, while for the time being, is considered a 'trend' the movement is growing into a way of life. As stated by Anthony Flaccavento "These are ordinary, middle–income folks who have become really engaged in food and really care where their food comes from." (Source E) This interest in where food comes from does not mean that they are attempting to be, as Flaccavento so beautifully put it, a "fringe foodie culture". It is a group of ordinary people that are invested in the origin and the nutritional value of their own food. I've been hired by cities mayor and am now the newest economics consultant charged with analyze the various local businesses market structures. This city has numerous businesses which leads to many different market structures. There are large factories or plants, almost every chain fast food restaurant, nicer sit down restaurants, mom and pop shops, along with our share of Wal–Mart's and other larger all in one stores, and we also have the city ran utilities. This town is competitive and thriving with a strong economical foundation fueled by a good sized population to keep many businesses from having to look too far for employees. New businesses have opened recently and are thriving. With keeping a good mix of market structures the economy will continue to grow. Multiple market structures will help to create a thriving economy, although they are all different, they provide income to the city in way of taxes, employment to our citizens, and understanding how each operates and prices their goods can help this city prepare for its financial future. We will need to analyze each market separately to show the differences and the similarities so as to understand their effects on the community and whether they allow room for entry and exit of new firms in order to grow our city economically. There are four market structures that I will provide analysis on. Perfect competition is a market structure in which there any many sellers and many buyers where not one firm (business) ... • 17. Local Foods And Local Food The local food movement connects both producers and consumers in the same geographic region which develops a more community reliant food system. Local foods impact the local community, environment, one's health, and the overall society. Local food does not have a definite answer, but it does involve many subjects which are all distinguishable throughout the food system. Local food could also represent the distance from the farm to the table. If local food is distributed straight to a food hub, or a farmers market, or a grocery store, then the food could be considered local. If the food is distributed to a manufacturer, or a warehouse that delivers the food to a grocery store, then the food would not be considered local. This would not be considered local because the food is being carried to multiple different areas which increases food miles. There are many goals that are put in place from many local food supporters that involve food hubs, community gardens, and farmer markets that all want to create a more sustainable local food system. Local food systems help the local economy and allows consumers to buy products from their local farmers, and communities. Some urban areas are in high risk of poverty and it does not allow for locals to buy healthy foods for their families. They are at risk for their health from the foods they have to buy considering what they can and cannot afford. • 19. Organic Locally Sourced Food On the other hand, costs do rise when purchasing organic, locally sourced food because big food sellers like Wal–mart can afford to sell at lower prices. In response, Sara Vinson of Yellow Hen Farm in Covington recognizes that these small farms are "not trying to compete with Wal–mart" in view of higher prices for local farm produce. Higher prices make sense, though, as more manpower has been put into organically grown food than industrially produced products. Often, weeding and harvesting will require hours of labor since pesticide use is not allowed on an organic farm. The issue of high prices for organic and locally grown food leads to the issue of food equity which is the ability to know what is healthy to eat as well as having these ... Corporate farming and an increasingly centralized system have influenced the cost of food and how much farmers are paid, increased the size of farms and ranches and have decreased their number. • 21. The Reduction Of Taxes May Be A Good Thing Essay When given the option to merge three municipalities, people, living within these towns, would seem hesitant to choose to support the merging because of a lack of support showing that this a good thing. The lack of research done on the effects of merging of three towns, shows that nobody really know what will happen if the consolidation was passed. The three towns of Round Lake Beach, and Round Lake Park would merge into one Round Lake area, as well as, all the business and public services that each town offers would merge into one. The people in support of this merger suggest that merging these three town will save the townspeople money by reducing taxes the people pay. There is a lack of evidence to show how much money merging the three towns would save. The reduction of taxes may be a good thing but it affects more than just the local businesses, local governments, it has effects over the schools and their teachers, police departments, hospitals, and fire departments. People might be for the consolidation because it would save them some money on their taxes. Many retired local government officials believe that taxpayers are not saving money because they are paying for three separate governments and each town has to pay for its own police. Others might see it as a good thing because the town one might live in could improve with the extra money that all the businesses would bring into the merged town, as well as, "[they] wouldn't have to compete against other Round Lake ... The New Castle Town Council In 2008 the New Castle Town Council appointed an eleven–member Steering Committee made up of local residents, business interests, and members of the Planning Commission and Town Council to guide a new vision for the long–term growth and development of the community. This effort was in response to pending growth pressures, for which the community was not fully prepared. After some months and considerable community input, the Planning Commission recommended and the Town Council adopted the Town of New Castle Comprehensive Plan on May 27, 2009. Prior to the adoption of the Plan, the National and local economies were strong. As a result, New Castle had begun to experience significant change. The intent of the Plan was to establish a path for community growth that, while accommodating new housing, businesses, services, jobs, parks/open spaces, non–motorized access systems, transportation, environmental protection and community infrastructure, would ensure that growth and change would not adversely the small–town character and community values that residents wanted to preserve. As the community planning process neared its conclusion, the National economy began to experience a slow–down, which in time became significant. However, I assume the families that need this support also receive government assistance through programs such as WIC and Link. Application of Plunge Experience Prior to taking the plunge I was not aware that even with government programs there is still a need for pantries in our local area. As a classroom teacher, I will need to bring awareness to the students that do not have this need that a part of their role in our community is to help those in need. This can be done through volunteering and donations. The challenge that individuals from the group will bring to the education environment is one that directly impact their learning. It is well understood that children cannot learn until their most basic needs are met. • 31. The New America Dream is Green (and Sustainable) Essay Smallville is a city just like any other city in the world. It has crime, pollution, and social inequalities. However citizens everywhere are dreaming of the future. The reason people came to Smallville, or America, in the first place was to live the American Dream. This idea is that if a person works hard enough they can be or achieve anything they want. However, the current system of selfishness and ignorance of the masses has led to the destruction of this idea. In order for these dreams to survive, Smallville needs to promote change. There needs to be more information about the effects people have on their communities and the environment. There needs to be a shift towards long–term sustainability. Before there can be greener ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every individual needs to change the way they view themselves and those around them. In the United States there is this idea written in the constitution called The Pursuit of Happiness. It basically means that in America you have the chance to live how you want to, or what is referred to as the American Dream. Overtime this dream has become too selfish, meaning that people only seek to make themselves happy regardless of those around them. When a community is more open and accepting there will be less conflicts. The reason this needs to happen on the individual level is that everyone needs to be on board for real change to occur successfully in Smallville. The first thing that needs to change about the individual is the idea of respect. If everyone can learn to respect themselves and those around them, even for differing views, the community can work together a lot easier. Then the next thing that would need to change about the individual would be the way they live their lives. Each citizen would need to change their eating habits, their energy use habits, and overall lifestyle habits. Then finally, the individual will need to find their place in society. Once they realize how connected to the community they are and how much damage they do to it, they can learn what they need to do to fix it. One thing they could do to fix it is practice vegetarianism. They could also walk to work or the stores instead of using their car. Finally, the government needs to be involved ... Local Food Movement : Questions The Local Food Movement Kara Gonzales Fresno City College TOPIC: Local food movement SPECIFIC PURPOSE: At the end of my speech, the audience will be able to understand what the local food movement is and why they should participate in this growing social trend. INTRODUCTION: Have you ever been looking around the grocery store and wondered, where did this mango come from? Or how did this corn get here? Well, last month I went on a grocery store tour led by Fresno State students in the Dietetics department and that's when I really started to look around at the variety of foods brought to our Fresno grocery stores. I was surprised to find out that much of the food in the grocery store may not even be from the United States. Foods can be shipped in to the United States from any country, for example beef from Argentina, lamb from New Zealand, grapes from Chile, mangoes from Mexico, tomatoes from Holland, and bananas from Central America. It's astonishing to think that most of our food does not come from California even though there are approximately 76,400 farms in California. Even more so, according to National Agricultural Statistic Service, California accounts for 2/3 of the United State's fruit and nut production. Also, 1/3 of the United States vegetable production originates in California. Lastly, California produces 1 out of every 5 gallons of milk in the United States. • 41. Essay On Locavores Imagining a community in 2020 where the majority of the population were Locavores is quite difficult due to the fact that modern society has expanded and is continuing to grow all the time. Locavores are people who only eat food within a 100 mile radius.(source g) The idea of being a locavore is new but slightly unnecessary due to the era of production our society lives on today. Foods shipped from far places may be lacking the nutrients that any other fruit or vegetable grown in a farm closer would have. (source B) But the nutritional differences are "marginal", it's not much of a difference, not enough to affect a person's health anyways. Considering the fast–paced societies growing today in America, relying on the "high demand" farmers would have to meet, can slow down the community's economic growth speed. In 2020 the society will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Buying locally "supports an area's farmers and, in turn, strengthens the community".(source C) However, the localization of foods would have a negative effect on farmers who rely on Americans by reducing demand. The decrease in business for these farmers will cause less crops to be made because, if 90 percent of your products is no longer being bought, then you're losing money if you make any more than 10 percent. Another thing food localization will cause is local businesses outside of these communities, like farmers markets to foreclose, because farmers will be forced to look for different work. If all the farmers in New Zealand are focusing on supplying the US than no one is focused on what percent of foods stay locally in New Zealand. Therefore a major movement towards being a locavore could have a big, negative effect on major food production across the country. Many jobs will be lost, many families will be homeless, and many families will split ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, a growing number of consumers have started to seek healthier and more environmentally friendly alternatives to the processed foods that dominate grocery store shelves. More than ever, Americans are looking for local food. The farm–to–table movement is also changing the expectations for restaurants. The cost can come at a premium for some businesses, which are still dealing with the challenges that serving local food can present. For the consumer, the purpose may be helping to build a strong economy by supporting local agriculture, knowing where the food comes from and farming practices used, or reducing the number of transportation miles and insuring they are getting the freshest products. Being a mid– sized local grocery has its challenges when competing with these national chains, and Company Q is no different. Locally owned and operated businesses are an essential part of today's society. Too often companies stress the quantity of profits over the quality of products. • 55. Case Study Of Chief Davis Executive Style After carefully reading the case studies, I concluded that Chief Davis' executive style is in line with The Statesman and Chief Fortier's executive style is in line with The Administrator. The Statesman style stresses leadership and Chief Davis had a strong subordinate leadership in which he allowed their thoughts and ideas to be put into place (Cordner, 2016). The Statesman focuses on the department's interests by being in constant contact with the community as well as the government and gives them tasks in order to provide leadership within the community. Chief Davis focused on building support from outside of the agency by becoming transparent with the community and by allowing them to see what decisions were being made. Chief Davis had strong ties to the local businesses and as a result, they heavily supported the Lowell Police Department. A strong indicator that the LPD had the backing of their community was that a fundraiser "led by a local businessman to raise some $200,000 to buy the department's mobile precinct" (Cordner, 2016, p. 488). Chief Davis also had the strong support from Senator Paul Tsongas, who was a resident of Lowell and worked well with the city government. By being involved in the local government as well as the university and businesses in Lowell, Chief Davis was extremely successful in getting community and monetary support for his department (Cordner, 2016). Chief Davis was also successful in convincing the residents in the community to build a new precinct in the crime riddled Cambodian neighborhood. This was largely done because he had the trust and support of the community as well as seeking the help and advice from outside of the department in Linda Hart. Chief Davis even was able to win over one of his non supporters by hiring Cambodian and Latino officers to help close the communication gap between the police department and the minority communities. The Statesman can often have a negative impact on a department because the department members feel that he or she loses touch of who they are representing, but Chief Davis never lost the trust of his personnel and built a supporting coalition inside as well as outside of the department. Following his argument, if unemployed people start new businesses, the phenomenon is considered as necessity entrepreneurship. It can be inferred that there is a highly positive relationship between necessity entrepreneurship (self–employment) and a number of unemployed. As the "supply push" effect of unemployment, Koellinger & Thurik (2012) find that rising unemployment can cause new start–up activities. By using the Granger causality analysis, they conclude that "entrepreneurship is often an escape route for people who have lost their jobs to make a living" (Koellinger & Thurik, 2012: 1149). It is not surprising that there is empirical evidence showing that necessity entrepreneurship is hard to success. Necessity entrepreneurship and people who experience a long–term unemployment tend to be considerably less satisfied with their businesses (Block & Koellinger, 2009). The low satisfaction can be explained by motivation (aspiration) and the decision process itself. In particular, the authors specifically explain the reasons: necessity entrepreneurship usually lost an opportunity of free will, and it leads to low satisfaction. The issue is whether the reassessment scheme of Article XIIIA of the California Constitution that imposes a higher tax on new resident and not old ones violates the Equal Protection Clause. Success for a business in a large market such as china can be a very difficult thing to achieve; there are many factors that can affect the success or failure of a business that decides to merge into China's markets. Most people would assume that due to the very large population of china (roughly 1.35 billion/1,363,496,913) operating a business there would not be a problem, this however is incorrect, just because there is lots of people there doesn't for a minute make it any easier to set u–p and run a successful business. The main point I would say that is essential to success in china is adaptation. If a business is able to adapt well to its surroundings, i.e. the ability to easily change its products and services to match the needs of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Making their chain stores very traditional and fitting with the local culture. Surprisingly Starbucks charges as much as 50% more for some of its products in China than in the U.S., the U.K. and India, but yet it is still a huge success, this is because the business catered well for the needs and adapted. Carrying a Starbucks cup is seen as a status symbol, a way to demonstrate sophistication and the capability to afford a personal luxury for the up–and–coming middle class in China. This links into the brand recognition that Starbucks has created for itself and shows how they carefully targeted their products at the new middle class, it is estimated that it's more than 300 million, already larger than the entire population of the United States. This middle class is about 25% of the total Chinese population and as Starbucks has such a recognisable brand people are more liable to visit the store. However, that being said some large companies have tried to adapt for the Chinese markets, and failed despite their efforts. One large well known company that can be an example of this is McDonalds. Although the very popular and globally recognised company has succeeded almost everywhere else, doesn't guaranty its success everywhere. By adapting their menus to what they thought was the local cuisine, the managers of the franchise thought they were on to a winner, but as time went on it became obvious that simply changing their menus wasn't ... Journal of Organizational Behavior, 18(3), 297–312. Retrieved from http://0–www.jstor.org.helin.uri.edu/stable/3100146 This article looks at the differences between family and non–family owned businesses. The article states that much literature on this topic focuses on the negative aspects and problems in working within the family business and, as a result, helps also identify some of the benefits of such a position. The authors focus on the disadvantages of working within the family business first, moving on to discuss the advantages later. After presenting this analyses, they further go on to present six hypotheses to readers based on preliminary interviews they conducted. The hypotheses they propose center around two specific conflicts. The first focuses on behavior–based interrole conflict and the second on interpersonal conflict, both of which come from working with one's family in the family business. Through studying and analyzing their hypotheses, using the interviews to ascertain the validity of their claims, the authors come to the conclusion that more benefits come out of the dual status that comes with working in the family business than problems. As the article states, "this is the first known study of this potential problem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However there are additional threats and limitations that might affect foreign businesses, particularly retailers. Especially, taking into consideration a significant role that local government plays in the Chinese market. The growing concern for retailers is that the Chinese government is discussing adopting protectionist regulations in the retail industry. New regulations are showing signs already as the local government has selected a group of local retailers and is giving them financial support. It is the first stage of formation of the "national champions" – local retail companies which are expected to become the leaders of the retail industry. There are many reason why the Chinese government is compelled to undertake these actions such as the retail industry is expanding at a fast rate and from the local population's perspective the key industry players that benefit from it the most are foreign companies. This viewpoint pressurises the government to protect the local retail chains, which are not able to compete against international retail giants because of the insufficient financial resources. Therefore these regulations are expected to favour domestic retailers in allocation of strategic locations and have been highly welcomed by national retailers. Under these circumstances it is of utmost importance for foreign retailers to re–assess their future strategies. As it was mentioned before the

  • 74. Entry Into A Foreign Market Demands That Business Leaders... Entry into a foreign market demands that business leaders carefully weigh the most effective strategy. The most important choice an organization would need to make prior to entering a new market, is determine if their mode of entry should involve an equity stake or not (Evans, 2005). This paper will present two theoretical business scenarios that would be best served by either a non– equity entry or an equity based entry. Non–Equity Based Market Entry Peng (2014) provides the example of exporting goods as a non– equity entry into a foreign market. Exporting provides an ideal means for a small business to insulate itself from fluctuations in the local economy, and expand its customer base (Mules, 2014). An ideal example of an organization which could potentially reap the benefits of exportation would be a local food manufacture (Del Piano, 2015). A hypothetical exporter could be an Atlanta–based company which produces peach salsa using locally grown ingredients. Peng (2014) notes that the direct–export model provides numerous benefits for the business. First, exporting opens opportunities for economies of scale to increase. Mules (2014) states that by increasing the number of products produced, the cost of producing an individual item decreases. In other words, as the business increases production to meet the demand of a larger client–base, their cost per item decreases. Exporting provides a rapid increase in the economy of scale of the organization's operations (Peng, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These circumstances include location and who owns the casino. A local casino will result in changes in Government revenue, public services, and surrounding businesses. Casinos bring a local economy a new tax source and new jobs but it is crucial to look further to see if casinos boost the local economy. In one article the writers state the benefits of the new casino including new jobs and investment. Felsentein, Littlepage, & Klacik (2000) then explain that many casino jobs however require some specific training. This means many employees commute to work. Also some of local casino employees leave previous jobs in community to come work in the casino. The casino is not creating for the local economy if workers are commuting or leaving old jobs (Felsentein, Littlepage, & Klacik, 2000) Where a casino is located is critical to how it affects the economy. A typical local casino does not bring money to the area like Las Vegas or Atlantic City does. This is because most gamblers in these two areas are tourist. Tourists bring money to an economy. In many local casinos the gamblers live in the same city as the casino. When this is the case, gamblers are not bringing money to the economy; they are transferring money that was already in the local economy. In an article written in 2002, the Detroit Free Press stated casinos were responsible for draining ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
