4. LINE
How you use line is very integral to the success of
an artwork.
• Vertical/ Horizontal/ Diagonal
• Straight/ Curved
• Broken/ Solid
• Thick/Thin

5. TEXTURE
Texture is used to differentiate
the implied feeling of a surface
• Rough, smooth, sticky, wet, furry
etc.
• Tactile/visual texture

6. SHAPE
Shape is the use of flat two-dimensional
forms
• Geometric (circles, squares, rectangles, triangles,
etc.)
• Organic (nontraditional shapes)

7. FORM
Form is the use three-dimensional shapes
• Geometric (cubes, spheres, cones, cylinders, etc.)
• Organic (people, animals, furniture, vehicles, etc.)

8. COLOUR
The use of colour in art greatly influences
how it is perceived by the viewer.
• Complimentary, analogous, contrasting, etc.
• Warm/cool colours
• Monochromatic/polychromatic
• Hue, saturation (intensity), tint, tone, shade

9. VALUE
Value is the range of light and
dark in an artwork
• Darkest value, mid tone, lightest
value
• Can be used to create a sense of
depth
• Creates a realistic or unrealistic
source of where light comes
from

10. SPACE
• Space is the area within,
around, and in between objects
in an artwork
• Positive/negative space
• Space in sculpture is just as
important

12. ASSESSMENT
• Student will create a poster of the various
elements and when done they create a final work
of art using 2-3 elements of their choice
• Conduct a constructive critique of each others
work and create and reflective writing on their
experience
