1. The Effect of Quail Egg Yolks on Body Mass Index

Objective
Quail egg yolks contain more cholesterol than other egg yolks. Excessive amounts of cholesterol in the
body can increase the body weight (BW) and body mass index (BMI). The purpose of this study is to assess
the alteration in BW and BMI rats induced quail egg yolks.
Method
This study is used a quasi-experimental method with pre and post testcontrolled group design. This research
was conducted in the laboratory of physiology, Islamic university of Indonesia (UII) for 2 weeks. The
subjects used in this study is 24 male wistar strain rats aged 2 months with BW of 100-200 grams. Rats
were divided into two groups, control positive group were given the quail egg yolks and control negative
groups were not given the quail egg yolks. Before treatment,all the rats were measured the BMI. Then,the
quail egg yolk is given to the control (+) rats of 500 mg/kg BW. After 2 weeks,all the rats are measured
again the final BMI rats.
Result
The average of BW rats before treatment was 154,027 ± 13,53 gram, and after treatment was 196,96 ±
22,48 gram. Result of independent t test analysis for BW produces p value 0,000. The average of BMI rats
before treatment was 4,19 ± 0,31 and after treatment was 5,20 ± 0,42. Result of independent t test analysis
for BMI produces p value 0,000.
Conclusion
Quail egg yolks was significantly increace BW and BMI rats.
