INTRODUCTION
Parental involvement is generally the involvement of parents in the children's education process with the aim
of improving their academic as well as social well-being. These include various activities such as supporting and
monitoring homework at home, attending school activities and attending parent and teacher interaction sessions,
communicating with teachers, volunteering activities at school, and working with the community.( Sumanasekera
Indu et al., 2021). Parents are one of the most significant factors in the development of the children. This is due to
the authority and skill they have to shape and develop their children into motivated, inspired and lenient people
with their explicit involvement in the process of learning activities(Ibrahima Naite, 2021).
Parenting is important in the Philippine society because family is viewed as a
center to one's social world. But, social contexts in which Filipino families are
embedded have changed rapidly over the past ten years (Ochoa & Torre, n.d.) To
compensate for the limited direct involvement in education, Filipino parents looked
for other means to be able to help their children excel such as exempting the latter
from doing household chores, avoiding vices, and maintaining quality family
relationships.Dr. Melvin Allena Jabar (17 Aug 2020).Filipino families place a high
value on children’s educational achievement.
At John Paul College in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, educators and administrators are grappling with the challenge of
engaging parents more actively in their children’s educational journey to enhance academic performance and
achievement .The level of parental involvement, particularly in fostering interest and development, significantly impacts
students' academic performance, attitudes, and conduct. However, many parents lack awareness of modern teaching
methodologies and opportunities to become more involved in their child's learning process.
Therefore, this study aims to look into how parental involvement in learning, especially in criminology at John Paul
College, affects academic performance. By doing this, the research hopes to find out exactly how parents' support influences
student success in academic performance . Understanding this is important because it can help identify ways to improve the
academic performance of crimininology student’s at JPC.
Statement of the Problem
This study try to find out the impact of parental involvement in criminology students in John Paul college.
Specifically, this study is concentrated on the following questions:
1. What is the general situation of parental involvement of the selected Criminology students of John Paul
College in terms of:
1.1 Supportive Communication
1.2 Financial Support
1.3 Emotional Support

Theoretical Framework.
This study is anchored on the following theories:
Jean Piaget Cognitive Theory
Jean Piaget cognitive theory suggests that children's intelligence undergoes changes as
they grow. Cognitive development in children is not only related to acquiring knowledge,
children need to build or develop a mental model of their surrounding world (Miller, 2011).
This theory is connected to the study since it focuses on the flow of treaty and relationship
between parents and children; their knowledge and behavior are changing depending on
their environment. Which has a big impact on their academic achievement and
performance in school
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Students. This study would help students by providing a supportive environment for their academic journey
Parents. This study would help the parents to gain insights into the importance of their involvement in their child's
education. By understanding how their actions can positively influence academic success, parents can actively engage in
their child's learning process and provide meaningful support at home and school.
Educators and Administrators. Educators and school administrators will benefit from this study by gaining a deeper
understanding of the relationship between parental involvement and academic performance. This knowledge can inform the
development of effective strategies and interventions to promote family-school partnerships and enhance student learning
outcome
Future Researchers. Future researchers in the field of education and child development can build upon the findings of this
study to explore additional factors and variables that may influence academic success. By expanding the research base,
future studies can contribute to the advancement of knowledge in this area and inform evidence-based practices.
SCOPE AND LIMITATION
Scope: This study would be conducted at John Paul College in Roxas Oriental Mindoro. It aims to
explore how parental involvement affects the academic performance of criminology students
Limitations: The study is limited to John Paul College in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, which may affect its
generalizability to other regions or institutions. Additionally, the sample size will be limited, potentially
impacting the breadth of the findings. Data on parental involvement will be self-reported by students,
which could introduce biases or inaccuracies.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES
Foreign Literature
In china, A systematic review of literature on parental involvement and it’s impact on parental
involvement and it’s impact on children learning outcomes. The researchers defined parental
involvement as a term that represents a parent's level of activity. hold in their children's academics.
In educational views, it is extremely important that Parents must actively participate and regularly
engage in their children's Schooling, and it is traditionally assumed that the more parents are
committed The more involved parents are in their children's education, the more successful their
children will be successful (Open Access Library Journal, 2023).
Local Literature
In the study "Family Capital and Parental Involvement among Parents in Public
Elementary and Secondary Schools in the Philippines: Perspectives of Parents and
Children," Melvin Jamar et al. (2023) found that parental involvement among parents from
low-income households is generally low. Parents are more engaged in activities directly
related to education. The study revealed that factors such as membership in Conditional
Cash Transfer (CCT) programs, participation in community activities, the parents'
educational level, and family size predicted parental involvement. This suggests that
parents with better social and human capital are more likely to be involved in their
children’s education.
Foreign Studies
Yong Tan Cheng (2019) from the University of Hong Kong identified six aspects of
parental involvement that positively affect student achievement. These include parental
academic expectations, support for child learning, discussions about school matters,
participation in school governance, reading together, and emphasizing education. Subtle forms
of parental involvement had the strongest associations with student achievement, especially
for students with more educated parents.
Local Studies
Parents' engagement in their children's schooling profoundly affects their success
(Tran et al., 2020). Studies show that students perform better academically, attend
school more regularly, and score higher on standardized tests when their parents are
involved (Castillo et al., 2020). Parental support can take many forms, such as helping
with homework, attending school events, participating in school decision-making, and
maintaining communication with teachers (Cusinato et al., 2020).
Research Methodology
This chapter gives a significant of research methods that were
followed in the study. It provides information on the respondents that is, the
criteria for inclusion in the study, who the respondents are and how these
respondents will be sampled. The researcher correlates the research design that
was chosen for the purpose of this study and the reasons for this choice. The
method that will be utilized to conduct this study are presented, as well as a
description of the instrument that will be used to collect data. The procedures
for analyzing the data that will be collected are also covered by the researcher.
Research Design
The researcher would use descriptive method of research. Descriptive research is
used to obtain information concerning the current status of the phenomena to describe
"what exists" with respect to variables or conditions in a situation. It can be either
quantitative or qualitative.
It can involve collections of quantitative information that can be tabulated
along a continuum in numerical form, such as scores on a test or the number of times a
person chooses to use a certain feature of a multimedia program, or it can describe
categories of information such as gender or patterns of interaction when using
technology in a group situation.
Respondent’s of the Study
The respondent’s of this study will be selected from the crminilogy students at least 10 students from
first year college, second year college, third year college , and 4th
year college that are currently enrolled.
Research Instrumentation
A set of questionnaires was used by the researchers as a means of gathering data of the study. In
relation to
this, the researchers had also interviewed some personnel to obtain information that will ensure the
effectiveness of addressing the research problem
The researcher used a self-prepared questionnaire for gathering data needed in determining the
impact of parental involvement in academic achievement and performance in criminology students in
John Paul College. The questionnaires are consisted of two parts.
The Part I of the questionnaire assessed the factors that affect the academic performance of
criminology students in John Paul College in terms of academic results, behavior, learning process,
financial stability, and students attention.
Part II determined the impact of parental involvement in academic achievement and performance in
criminology students in John Paul College in terms of parental support, treatment, types of discipline,
types parents occupation, and time availabilility.
Scaling and Quantification
As a basis in interpreting the mean, 5 point scale was used with corresponding statistical limit
and verbal description as follows.
Numerical Scale StatisticalLimit VerbalDescription
5 4.50–5.00 Strongly disagree
4 3.50–4.49 Disagree

2 1.50–2.49 Strongly disagree
1 1.00–1.49 Agree
Data Gathering Procedure
Having found the questionnaire reliable, the researchers wrote a letter addressed to
the criminology students of John Paul College and to the faculty of criminology to ask
their humble office forgiving the researchers the permission to conduct a survey. They
have provided guide questions needed in the conduct of the study. It was then followed
by the researchers distributing the questionnaires to the respondents and explained to
them what is the study all about and what they are going to do. When the respondents are
done in answering the questionnaire form, the researchers collected all the answers and
subjected for interpretation of data and analyzing.
Statistical Treatment of Data
The data gathered through the research instrument were tallied and tabulated through the
use of statistical tools such as frequency and mean. These are interpreted by the researchers.
The formula for the getting the mean is as follows:
X=€fd
N
X= is the given
G= is the number of accurrences
€fd= is the total sum of product
€Y= is the total number of accurrences

But, social contexts in which Filipino families are embedded have changed rapidly over the past ten years (Ochoa & Torre, n.d.) To compensate for the limited direct involvement in education, Filipino parents looked for other means to be able to help their children excel such as exempting the latter from doing household chores, avoiding vices, and maintaining quality family relationships.Dr. Melvin Allena Jabar (17 Aug 2020).Filipino families place a high value on children’s educational achievement.

(2023) found that parental involvement among parents from low-income households is generally low. Parents are more engaged in activities directly related to education. The study revealed that factors such as membership in Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programs, participation in community activities, the parents' educational level, and family size predicted parental involvement.
