6. Time to get up!
It is 5 o’clock in the morning
in Malawi and 11 year old
Esnart is up collecting
water
It is 5 o’clock in the
morning in the UK ….
,,, and 11 year old Joe is
fast asleep!

7. 6am
Esnart helps her mother
with the chores before
she can go to school
Joe is still asleep!

8. 6.30
Esnart starts to get ready for
school. She washes and
puts on her uniform
Joe is still asleep!

9. 6.45
Esnart is now ready to walk
to school which starts at
7.30, she is one of the
lucky ones!!
6.45 and Joe’s
alarm goes off.
He gets up,
showers and puts
on his uniform.
He quickly eats
breakfast as he
has to catch the
school bus.

10. 7.30
Esnart helps sweep and
clean the school
Joe meets his mates at
the bus stop and they
catch the school bus
together.

11. School starts
Esnart and her friends in
their classroom. Some
lesson are outside as
there is not enough room
Joe has science, ICT and
basketball and is pleased when
it is break as he is starving!

12. Breaktime/lunchtime
Esnart gets a half an hour
break mid morning which
will be a drink of water.
Esnart goes home for lunch
Joe has break in the
canteen with his mates
… and is still ravenous at lunchtime
when he is back in the canteen again!

13. The Afternoon
In the afternoon, Esnart continues
with her schooling. This
afternoon her class have all
their lessons inside the
classroom.
Likewise, Joe is hard at work …
this afternoon, he has Spanish
in the school’s language lab..
and English.

14. After School
After school, Esnart helps
her mother with the
chores and then..
Joe stays after school for
football practice. The
goes home watches TV
and plays on his XBox

16. And so their day ends…
Goodnight!!
After her meal of nsima ( a sort of
porridge) Esnart will do her
homework and then to bed at
8 o’clock as the light fades.
After his meal of pizza and chips,
Joe spends the rest of his
evening doing his homework
then on his xbox and mobile
phone
