Colombia has a long history of coffee exports dating back to 1736 when coffee seeds were first brought to Popayán. By 1835, Colombia exported its first 60 kg of coffee. Currently, Colombia exports around 560,000 tonnes of coffee per year, equivalent to 85% of its production, mainly to the United States. The key characteristics that distinguish Colombian coffee include its shape, size, color, grain consistency and its uniquely natural qualities not found in other countries.
