The Angel Gabriel told Mary she would have a baby named Jesus, who would be the son of God. Mary and Joseph got married and traveled to Bethlehem for the birth, but could only find a stable to stay in. After Jesus' birth, wise men brought him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, but King Herod wanted to kill Jesus to maintain his power, so an angel warned Mary and Joseph to flee to Egypt for safety with their newborn son.
Long ago, about 2000 years, when King Herod ruled Judea (now part of Israel), God sent the angel Gabriel to a young woman who lived in the northern town of Nazareth. The girl's name was Mary and she was engaged to marry Joseph.
