This presentation was delivered at VRTO 2023 and was intended to give studios that are looking at enterprise as their primary market a solid understanding of the current needs of the industry. We talk about cyber security, working with the It department and the creation of an XR strategy. This is important as XR projects move from the innovation department to the operations department. This was presented by Bit Space Development and their CTO Daniel Blair in Toronto Ontario, Canada.

3. Introduction
Bit Space Development (BSD) is a company
focused around innovation and research into
expanding the human-computer interaction
space.
Over the last 9 years, we have focused on
creating robust XR learning experiences,
integrated IoT command and control
pipelines, and invented a new technology to
bring machine learning ops pipelines to
businesses for practical applications all with
the goal of integrating this technology to
create scalable digital twins.
4. The BSD Team
In addition to our leadership team, BSD has
team members in Winnipeg, Toronto, and
northern Canada. Our team is currently made
up of 40+ employees with roles ranging from
software development to computer
engineering and more.
To complement this team BSD has also forged
relationships with various post-secondary
institutes which generally leads to about 15
long-term placements in the areas of software
development, data science, and various other
business roles. In 2022 our team peaked at 45
members working on our projects.

7. Chainsaw VR
BSD was approached with a vision on how to enhance chainsaw
safety and learning on the worksite. Their goal was to create an
immersive and interactive experience that could effectively
educate users about chainsaw safety, the importance of personal
protective equipment (PPE), and safe practices.
Understanding the critical need for comprehensive training, we
collaborated closely to develop a tailored VR solution. By
combining realistic scenarios, detailed instructions, and
interactive elements, we created a powerful tool enabling workers
to acquire knowledge, refine their skills, and instill a safety culture
on the worksite.
This collaboration exemplifies our commitment to leveraging
cutting-edge technology to revolutionize safety education and
equip workers with the skills they need to excel in their roles.
8. Language
Environments
This project forced us to fine-tune our ability
to optimize performance to push as much
quality as possible into ENGAGE and the
Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 mobile VR
headsets.
We also had to think about how people learn
a language and design a home allowing a
classroom to explore.
9. How did it used to be?
The XR space is entering the third phase of the adoption cycle; this
means that XR deployments have evolved a couple times since the
start of the XR industry as we know it.
Phase 1 is 2012 - 2017, this
phase was largely small scale
low budget exploration into
the capabilities of the
technology.
Phase 2 is 2017 - 2022
which was primarily defined
by the formalization of
working groups and the
introduction of measurable
KPIs to better understand
the success state of a
deployment
Phase 3 is now - This phase
is primarily defined by the
introduction of security,
insurance, and strategy
requirements for larger
scale adoption and long
term roll out.
10. Why Enterprise XR?
The enterprise market potential: The enterprise market is a
significant opportunity for XR due to its size, diverse industries,
and potential for widespread adoption. This segment offers a
substantial customer base and the ability to scale XR solutions
across various sectors.
Addressing unique needs and challenges: Enterprises often face
specific needs and challenges, such as training, simulation, remote
collaboration, and data visualization. XR technologies can provide
innovative solutions that address these requirements, improving
efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness.
Tangible benefits and ROI: XR solutions offer tangible benefits that
resonate with businesses. Enhanced training and simulation
capabilities reduce costs associated with physical setups and
allow for immersive, realistic experiences. Improved visualization
and data analysis leads to better decision-making and operational
efficiencies, translating into a measurable return on investment
(ROI).

12. Cyber Security Policies
Cyber audits
Business grade networking equipment
Services that have been audited
Regular pentesting
Protecting enterprise data is crucial in an XR environment. Robust
cybersecurity measures, including encryption, secure network
protocols, and access controls, must be implemented. Regular
updates and vulnerability assessments are necessary to stay ahead
of evolving cyber threats.
This extends to everything from:
13. Cyber Security Policies
VR devices and software collect
and store user data, including
personal and behavioural
information.
Unauthorized access or data
breaches can result in privacy
violations and potential misuse
sensitive data.
Adequate data protection
measures, encryption, and secure
data storage are essential to
mitigate these risks.
Data Privacy and Breaches
VR devices, just like any other
connected device, can be
susceptible to malware and virus
infections.
Malicious software can
compromise the integrity of VR
applications, steal sensitive
information, or disrupt device
functionality.
Regularly updating device
firmware, using reliable software
sources, and employing strong
security software can help
prevent such threats.
Malware and Viruses
14. Cyber Security Policies
VR platforms that support online
interactions and communication
may be vulnerable to social
engineering attacks.
Malicious actors can manipulate
users into revealing sensitive
information or performing harmful
actions.
User education and awareness
about phishing techniques and
best security practices are crucial
for mitigating these risks.

15. XR Strategy
This slide highlights the XR strategy and the ways in which enterprise clients can be
supported during their exploration of XR. The key points covered are:
Define XR Goals and Objectives: Align XR initiatives with the client's business goals and
establish clear objectives.
Conduct XR Readiness Assessment: Evaluate the client's readiness for XR adoption and
develop a roadmap for implementation.
Provide Customized XR Solutions: Design and develop tailored XR solutions that integrate
seamlessly with existing systems.
Offer Training and Support: Provide comprehensive training programs and ongoing technical
support to facilitate XR adoption.
Measure and Optimize XR Performance: Implement analytics to measure impact, gather

19. IT Support and Integration
VR devices require a significant
amount of network bandwidth due
to high-resolution content and
real-time data transfer.
Assess the network infrastructure
to ensure sufficient capacity to
handle VR traffic without causing
network congestion or
performance issues.
Consider implementing Quality of
Service (QoS) mechanisms to
prioritize VR traffic and optimize
user experience.
Bandwidth and Network Capacity
Implement robust network
security measures to protect VR
devices and prevent unauthorized
access.
Use strong encryption protocols,
secure authentication
mechanisms, and segmented
network architectures to isolate
VR devices from other network
resources.
Employ access controls and role-
based permissions to restrict
access to VR resources and
sensitive data.
