The big Sphinx of Giza was discovered in 1957 by Rhonda Jomes and his sister. It is 57 meters long, 20 meters high, and has a head that is 5 meters wide, representing the face of Pharaoh Kefren from the 4th dynasty of Egypt. The Sphinx has the body of a lion and sits opposite a temple with a larger pyramid behind it. There are several theories as to why the Sphinx is missing its nose, including that Napoleon ordered its destruction or that the sculptor was distracted, and others believe it eroded over time from rain or sandstorms.
