Lipids contain carbon, hydrogen and oxygen and provide more calories per gram than carbohydrates or proteins. They function to store energy, insulate the body, and are used to make steroid hormones like testosterone and estrogen. You might have noticed that both carbohydrates and lipids
have the elements Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen.
A carbohydrate, has twice as many hydrogen atoms as the
number of oxygen atoms.
On the other hand, lipids have a lot more than twice the
amount hydrogen atoms as the number of oxygen atoms.

Remember that a carbohydrate molecule has twice the number of hydrogens as the number
