The EPA was preparing a report on environmental issues that included a section on climate change risks. However, after edits from the White House, the climate section was significantly reduced and did not include conclusions from studies finding human contributions to warming. EPA staff ultimately decided to cut the entire climate change discussion to avoid appearing to selectively filter science. Critics argue the White House forced the EPA to endorse "junk science" downplaying climate risks, while administration officials said there was ample discussion of climate elsewhere and the EPA made its own decision not to include the controversial section.
This document summarizes the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, which established policies for the protection of the environment. It created the Council on Environmental Quality within the Executive Office of the President to help agencies assess environmental impacts of federal actions and ensure environmental policies are followed. It also requires federal agencies to consider environmental impacts in their planning and decision making processes and provide environmental impact statements for major federal actions.

The letter also urges dismissing administration employees who are not pursuing the President's agenda on global warming and energy policy. It offers to work with the administration on pro-consumer, pro-taxpayer policies.
Evaluating the Development and Impact of Feed-In TariffsDirk Volkmann
Dirk Volkmann presented on evaluating the development and impact of feed-in tariffs (FITs). He began by defining FITs as a policy mechanism that provides renewable energy producers a guaranteed fixed rate for the electricity they generate. Volkmann then discussed several benefits of FIT programs, including that they have proven highly effective in accelerating renewable energy development in Germany. He also noted that FIT programs pay for themselves in less than one year through avoided fossil fuel and external costs. However, integrating renewable energy into the market poses challenges for transmission system operators given fluctuations in renewable production. Overall, Volkmann argued that FITs are superior to other policy mechanisms and have been very successful in promoting renewable energy growth in Europe.

The EPA denied a petition to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles for three reasons: 1) the EPA lacks authority under the Clean Air Act to regulate CO2 and other greenhouse gases for climate change purposes; 2) regulating fuel economy, which is the only practical way to reduce vehicle emissions of CO2, is assigned by Congress to the Department of Transportation; and 3) regulating greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles would be inappropriate at this time. The EPA took this action in response to a petition filed in 1999 by environmental groups seeking to compel the EPA to regulate greenhouse gases from motor vehicles under the Clean Air Act.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
4. Questions Asked / Avg Response Time * *All times based on 24 hour day and seven day week. Calculating core business hours reduces the average response time to as little as 6 minutes.
We’ll start at a macro view and here you can see raw traffic numbers and the continued increase….June – v2July – iPhoneDecember – SMB and ISP members joinJanuary – emphasis on the community comes from the topSo this is a great story, but now lets talk about WHAT is occurring on the site, the Interactions that occur
This shows us the % of the community that has interacted with the site at least once in the month…notice 90.6% in March!
Here we’re able to view the TYPES of interactions that are occurring….Note that Answers go from just over 1:1 in Oct to over 2:1 in MarchNow to some numbers that I’m really excited about…Looking at engagement by individual. Back even in the April timeframe last year we only had no more than 10 people a month that we could categorize as a Power SME
I am only reliably able to show data for this from v2 forward, so June. Super Users 8+ interactions….twice a month this group is Posting, Asking, Answering or Commenting. For me the engagement number that means the most is looking at Questions Asked and Response Times…
Oct/November we had a growth in topics and people posting to those topics, some obscure, in which SMEs weren’t engaged fully quite yet.
As we shorten the distance between Marketing, and the Field this is a great view into how effective the community has become….here are the top 10 Marketing contributors since Sept…With the low percentages in Sept/Oct I began actively engaging with the marketing folks ensuring questions were being asked, training them on features, etc….also note that month to month the Marketing role grows so 40% in Dec is a larger number than the 48% in SeptNotice that we had 93% of those classified in the community as Marketing, Interact with the site last month…
