It is not a question.
It is a statement of your desire.
It starts a conversation.
It lets your contact know what is important to you.
It demonstrates your connection with your contact.
It is incredibly powerful!

“I would like to invite you to my church.”
Say it to a neighbour on the left and a neighbour
on the right. STOP TALKING. Listen.

“Come and see.”
If “yes” … “Great I will pick you up at _______”
If “no” … “I just thought I should ask. You’re not
offended with me are you?”
If “I’ll try” … they are not coming!
If “yes” … its 50/50
100% of the people you bring with you in your
car will come.

Drop By Sometime
Don’t present the Gospel.
They need to see the love before they hear of it.
Over 60% think they are already good to go.
If you get them out once your job is to get them out
twice.
E.g. “Let me buy you lunch after church next week.”
If you keep them coming they will “get it” in time.
Say 9 words to 20 to get 1 to come. Get 2 to come
and 1 will stay.
When they hear it 3 times from 3 people they come.

Implications
Don’t attempt to be superman/superwoman
Don’t expect anyone else to overperform
Don’t fill up your slots – leave some spaces
Plan to say “yes” – let the other person choose “no”
by their action

People you seek out for a specific purpose
A list of people who cross your path
Use checkerboard management as a filter
Agree whose move is next
Define the move
Set the completion expectation
Three prompts and you are out
Genericize your response for multiple uses

the newcomers who
walk through your
door for the first time!

This is the low hanging fruit and every
church has some available.
First time newcomers just show up
sometimes. (Typically already initiated.)

The Five Finger Weekly Check Up
1. Path
Before guests even see
where you meet what
can you do to create
anticipation and
brighten their pathway?
2. Parking
As visitors enter your
parking lot do they
know exactly where to
go to find the best
place to park?
3. Premises
As newcomers leave their car and approach your
building is it as delightful and inviting as possible?
And then when they enter is there something that
creates a wow factor? 4. Process
Have you thought through your
process and encouraged everyone
in the church for this moment as
the newcomer enters?
5. People
Are your people the most
loving anyone could find -
not overbearing but just
pleasant to be with?

Which of the five fingers matters the most?
You don’t want anyone to cut off even one finger!
You do want to create the highest impact.
Before you get down to this and call for help.

5. People

How Do You Change the People?
You don’t.
You don’t change them all at once.
Change 10-20% of the people and your church
is changed!
You will be bad at it before you get good at it.
This is better caught than taught!
