Articles of belief which are regarded as essential or a brief summary of Christian doctrine. The Creed can be viewed as a response to the desire to believe and to have faith to what has been revealed to us. Just like the apostles of the old, the San Antonio Abad Parish community believes in the Word who has come down to earth in the person of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.
One of the first PowerPoints that I made when teaching theology. It is crazy. It has animations, links to further slides, and terrible graphics. But it is fun share and does give an accurate view of the history of Christianity. (Although the animations and links don't work in this slideshare.)
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…
3. I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of Heaven and Earth
To believe mean to surrender completely to God
our intelligence and will.
To believe in God means to love him.
Abraham is the father of all believers.
The Virgin Mary is the most perfect
realization of faith
4. God is Father because He created the world and
because He generated (not created) from eternity
his Son Jesus Christ.
The dogma of the Blessed Trinity says
that God is One Divine Nature in three Divine
Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
The proof of the existence of the
Trinity is in the Gospel.
God is almighty because nothing
is impossible to him.
5. God is the Creator because
he created heaven
and earth out of nothing.
God created the universe out of love.
God, as a good Father, cares for his
creations through his divine Providence.
The goal of creation is to give glory to God.
6. The Heaven and the Earth
God is the Creator of
heaven and earth, of all visible
and invisible things.
We believe in the existence
of the angels.
The mission of the angels is
to serve God and to guard man.
7. Man
Man was created in the image
and likeness of God
Man was created male and
female.
Adam and Eve in the Garden of
Heaven were endowed with the
original holiness and justice.
8. The Original Sin
God created everything good.
Evil and death entered into the
world because of the envy of
the Devil.
The original sin consists in the
deprivation of the original
holiness and justice.
9. And in Jesus Christ,
His Only Son Our Lord
Jesus Christ is the second Person of the
Blesssed Trinity.
He is true God and true Man.
JESUS on Hebrew means God Saves.
CHRIST in Greek, or Messiah in Hebrew,
mean anointed.
Jesus is Christ because he is the
true prophet, king and priest.
10. The Only Begotten Son of God
God the Father proclaimed
Jesus Christ as hiss only
begotten Son.
We are children of God only
by adoption, while Jesus
Christ is the Son of God by
nature.
11. Our Lord
To say that Jesus Christ is the
Lord means to profess that
He is God.
Jesus was confirmed to be the
Lord through the miracles, the
expulsion of the demons, and
the forgiveness of sins, because
only God can do these marvels.
12. Jesus Christ is one Divine Person with two natures,
divine and human.
We believe that the Blessed Virgin Mary is the Mother
of God, the Immaculate Conception, the perfect Virgin,
and the glorious Assumption.
13. The Life of Jesus
The Incarnation
The Birth of Jesus
The Circumcision
The Epiphany
The Presentation of Jesus at the Temple
The flight into Egypt and the massacre
of the innocents.
The finding of Jesus in the Temple
The hidden life in Nazareth
The Baptism in the Jordan
The temptations of Jesus in the desert
Three years of preaching
The ascent towards Jerusalem
The entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem
14. He suffered under Pontius Pilate
The Last Supper
The treachery of Judas
The prayer of Jesus at Gethsemane
The denial of Peter
Jesus before Pilate
15. He was crucified, died
The crucifixion
He was buried
The scribes and the Pharisees killed Jesus
We sinners are the ones that killed Jesus Christ
Christ died on the Cross to free us from our sins,
and to reconcile us with the Father
Jesus on the Cross is the symbol
of the love of God for us.
Christ died on the Cross to do the will of the Father.
16. He descended into the dead
The body of Jesus was reposed into
the tomb, while his soul descended
into the Sheol
The souls of the just entered in
paradise, while the souls of the evil
ones went to hell
The Sheol, or the kingdom of the
dead, is the place where the souls
of the dead stayed before the
resurrection of Christ.
17. On the third day He rose again
The resurrection of Christ is
the center of our faith.
18. He ascended into Heaven
Jesus ascended into heaven 40 days after his
resurrection
Before ascending into heaven, Jesus gave the
apostles their mission.
Go, make disciples of all the nations, baptize
them in the name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to
observe all the commands I gave you. And
know that I am with you always; yes, to the end
of time (Matthew 28:19-20)
19. He is seated at the right
hand of the Father
To sit at the right hand of the father means to
have the power to carry out all His commands.
Jesus, from heaven helps all men to be saved
and to enter in the eternal life.
20. He will come again to judge
the living and the dead
Nobody knows the day in which Christ will
come to judge the living and the dead
There are two judgments: the particular
judgment right after our death, and the
final judgment at the end of the world.
Jesus Christ will judge all men according to
their deeds
At the coming of Jesus the world will vanish.
21. I believe in the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the third Person
of the Blessed Trinity
Jesus himself
revealed the existence
of the Holy Spirit
22. The Holy Catholic Church,
the Communion of Church
The assembly of those who believe in Jesus
Christ, who are baptized, and who are in
communion with the Pope.
It is governed by the Pope, the Bishops,
and the priests.
The mission of the Church is
to announce and to
establish among all peoples
the Kingdom of Christ.
23. The Symbols of the Church
People of God
Body of Christ
Bride of Christ
Flock of Christ
26. The communion of saints is the community of all
Christians who are in the grace of God
The saints are those who are in the grace of
God, both on earth or in heaven.
The most outstanding of all saints is the Blessed
Virgin Mary.
27. I believe in the forgiveness of sins
God alone can forgive sins
Jesus Christ entrusted to the apostles
and to their successors the power
to forgive sins.
The Church forgives sins through the
sacraments of Baptism and Penance.
The Lord forgives all our sins, so we must
forgive those who sin against us.
28. I believe in the resurrection of the body
At the end of the world, our mortal body will be
resurrected, transformed into a glorious body,
and united again with its soul.
When we die, our body is buried, while our souls
passes immediately through the particular
judgment. Then, it goes straight to hell,
purgatory, or paradise.
29. The resurrection is the act by which God gives
eternal life to our mortal bodies, making them
glorious bodies, and uniting them again with
our soul.
All men will rise again at the end of the world.
30. I believe in the Everlasting Life
The everlasting life is the perfect and eternal
communion of love with God in paradise.
31. Judgment
There are two judgments
after death:
The particular judgment is
immediately after our
death.
The final judgment will take
place at the end of the
world, when Jesus will
come again to judge the
living and the dead.
33. Hell
Hell is the state of self-separation from
the communion with God.
34. Paradise
Paradise is the state of
perfect communion of
love with the Blessed
Trinity, the Virgin Mary,
the angels, and the saints.
After, the final judgment
there will be a new
heaven and a new earth.
35. Amen
Amen is a Hebrew word,
which means
“Yes, I approve.”
We end all our prayers with
Amen, because we want to
put in practice what we
profess with our words.
