Stuxnet is a computer virus that targeted Iran's nuclear program and was the first to specifically target industrial system software and equipment. It spread via USB drives and exploited multiple unpatched vulnerabilities in Windows to gain access to an isolated industrial control network. Once inside, it collected normal operating data over 13 days and then secretly programmed centrifuges to spin at destructive speeds, while disguising these actions from operators and safety systems. Its creators went to great lengths to cover its tracks and target systems with an exact configuration matching Iran's uranium enrichment facility.
