The intent of providing real time intelligence is what was the
founding principle behind Total Communicator Solutions, Inc.
andthe patentedSparkCompass platformforplatforms.
In an interview with Insights Success, Erik Bjontegard, the
FounderofTotal Communicator Solutions, Inc and inventor of the
Spark Compass platform describes the inception story of the
organization.
Below are the highlights of the interview between Erik Bjontegard
andInsightsSuccess:
Give a brief overview of your company, its uniqueness and its
vision.
Total communicator Solutions Inc. was created to build a platform
that leverages technology to deliver actions in the real world based
on data. Leveraging the ability to capture data from a variety of
sensors and connected devices such as mobile phones, cars, digital
displays and smart city sensors, the platform applies augmented
intelligence by combining historical data and known demographic
data to deliver information, instructions and curated content to the
right person at the right time and place, on the right device.
Combining cutting-edge technologies with new communication
protocols delivering actions on data and measuring the real-world
outcomes, the platform combines legacy systems with next-
generation technologies in one platform for platforms. This unique
approach to act on data - real-time - delivers a new way to bridge
the physical world with the digital. We are staying true to this
unique mission, delivering better outcomes in the real world based
on data from the real world – in real time. This is not just a vision, it
is being done in the real world real-time with our patented platform
forplatforms,SparkCompass.
Can you describe your company’s cutting edge IoT solutions
whichaddressalltheneedsofyourcustomers?
Our platform is leveraging a variety of edge devices as well as IoT
sensors, combining these with any type of communication
protocol, from low-power wide area network into the future of 5G
and beyond. These devices are connected with a central
computation device in the cloud to deliver actions on the events
that are captured in the real world. Combining this with the
knowledge base – demographic data on the user, information about
the location, the user’s activity – as well as an understanding of the
desired outcomes for the operator of the system, enables the system
to deliver “curated content”, information and actions back into the
real world. By measuring the resulting outcomes, a virtual real-
world machine learning communication platform is created. This

is our patented and truly unique approach; while others are
providing powerful analytics - even apply AI - onto data that is
gathered, we are unique in that we create actions based on the data
that can be sent back into the real world. We measure the outcomes
to verify that these meet the desired outcomes or not, and learn
from it to improve next communications. This feedback loop
enables a truly intelligent system. We call this “augmented
intelligent” communication protocols for our clients, basically
providingthe“intelligenceofeverything”.
Howdidyouendupdoingthis?
I grew up in Norway, and later went to England on a scholarship to
study mechanical engineering. While in Norway working on
underwater robotics, I decided to set my eyes to the skies and the
space and later I came to the US in order to work on the space
shuttlewithNASA.
Having a wonderful and understanding family who supported me
in chasing my dreams, helped me in creating a reality around my
vision. I had a great team to help build the platform based on my
invention. Being based in San Diego and having worked with
Qualcomm as an executive in their corporate R&D division, I
recognized the platform had a global reach – so we are now
travelling the globe working with partners in countries from Hong

With the escalating number of IoT solutions providers, how is

Unlike lot of companies that are focusing on great marketing
materials and ideas presented in PowerPoint presentations, we
believe in doing rather than talking. Our solutions have been
deployed, tested, validated and endorsed by the largest and the
greatest technology companies in the world. Always looking for
ways to do better, we also take pride in making sure there is value in
what we do. We always have answer to “what’s in it for me” from
the end-user or our customer’s perspective. Delivering actions on

augmented reality, or smart city sensors, edge computing or indeed
others AI algorithms; we combine these into one platform to
deliver real-world outcomes. By combining other’s technologies,
other’s equipment, other’s sensors and other’s solutions, we build a
true platform for platforms. And now we are also able to store our
data in a very effective and fast blockchain for those customers
who want that option – real world data on events, stored real time
on a blockchain. We are even reaching peaks at 5,000 transactions

We are always looking for better outcomes and match desired

15. What are the challenges faced while providing solutions
andhowisyourcompanyservingtotacklethem?
Being a cutting-edge company and a market leader has been a
challenge. When I formed the company in 2012, nobody knew
that 5G would one day become a reality; in-fact nobody knew
about 5G at all. I knew about it as I was part of the team
developing it at Qualcomm. I knew that one day there will be
the ability to connect devices and people in the real world with
the digital in a manner where connectivity would be near
instantaneous. Soon after having helped bring Augmented
Reality into reality and the market, I left. I recognized that one
day there will be a need for a common control system, a
common “brain” if you’d like, so there will be a need to have a
platform for platforms. It is only recently that this kind of
thinking has been understood. It’s only recently that this kind
of solutions are being recognized as even possible. So
building this, and showcasing it has been a painstaking
approach over the last 8 years. By presenting cutting-edge
solutions, we always are painting the picture of what can be
done, the end solution – the blue horizon and the amazing
future we can create. There are no limits to what our platform
can do when you really think about the aspect of gathering real
world data, understand it, and act on it to deliver better
outcomes…. However it’s important to start somewhere and
in order to start we often have to start small. We always
percent the end goal so that every step goes towards building
the complete solution, not piecemeal by piecemeal of
solutions that do not cooperate, collaborate nor can
communicate with each other. The essences of building
intelligently is that the first step is the first step towards the
future. In order to do so, the future we want to create needs to
be known. In order to create a road map, we need to know
wherewewanttoendup.
How are you leveraging cutting-edge technologies from
multipleentities?
Leveraging cutting-edge technologies from multiple entities
and companies into one common platform for platforms, we
as a company are now poised to explosive growth. Having
teamed up with world leading technology partners, we are
now teaming up with world leading content owners,
distributors and technology leaders in new markets.
Expanding beyond USA, North America and Europe into
Southeast Asia, China, Middle East and North Africa our
platform can deliver outcomes that can change and improve
lives across the globe. This technology and our ability to grow
with new technologies, storing data safely and securely,
ensuring we protect everybody’s privacy, we can truly deliver
better outcomes. Whether we are caring for senior citizens on

What according to you could be the potential future of IoT
industry and how does your company envision sustaining
itscompetency?
I believe that the IoTindustry will evolve and IoTwill become
something that is deployed and integrated seamlessly
everywhere. It should not be a standalone industry. It should
not be a standalone word. For it to fully succeed IoT should be
integrated everywhere and into the real world. We call our app
interface the User Interface to the real world. The UI to the
real world that controls digital interactions in the physical
world. That should be the true goal for IoT, the intersection
between the physical and the digital and providing the bridge
between the two. By always being visionaries continuing to
innovate and acknowledging that a true platform for platform

18. Data &
Endpoint
Management
Rising Mobile
Workforce
and its
Challenges
in the
Mobile-Cloud
Era:
Mathivanan V
Vice President
ManageEngine
Mobility and cloud
computing are rapidly
becoming the norm for
enterprises around the world. In turn,
enterprise IT departments are facing
new management and security
challenges as the amount of business
data soars and the number of
endpoints explodes. The question
that is doing the rounds is what IT
teams need to consider to manage
and secure their businesses in this
new era.
Industry analysts predict deep
penetration of enterprise
mobility by the year 2020.
IDC, for instance, forecasts
www.insightssuccess.com16 | September 2019
19. that mobile workers will account for
almost 75 percent of the total
workforce in the U.S. Meanwhile,
Strategy Analytics projects that the
global mobile workforce will reach
1.75 billion users and account for 42
percent of the global workforce
overall.
The economic perspective is just as
bright as a button. The global
enterprise mobility market will be
worth as much as $140 billion,
predicts the National Association of
Software and Services Companies.
And the investments are paying off.
To date, 84 percent of all companies
who consider themselves on the
cutting edge of mobility report an
increase in overall productivity as a
direct result of incorporating mobile
apps into their business, according to
a survey by AppsFreedom.
Likewise, enterprises are expected to
continue relentlessly adopting cloud
technologies. By 2020, Gartner
forecasts the public cloud services
market will reach $383 billion. This
includes spending on cloud business
process services, cloud application
infrastructure services, cloud
application services, cloud
management and security services,
cloud system infrastructure services,
and of course, cloud advertising.
The flip side of increasing enterprise
mobility and cloud usage is the
increasing risk to enterprise security.
Today, most users have at least two
endpoints – a laptop and mobile
device – and 80 percent of network
devices are be endpoints that are
constantly connected to the internet
and exposed to its threats such as
Meltdown, Spectre, Wannacry, and
Petya.
More troubling, the typical end user
has little knowledge of those threats
or their ramifications. The result is
more users are more likely to leak
enterprise data by using
compromised websites and rogue
online services. The CVE listed
14,712 cybersecurity vulnerabilities
for 2017 and has already listed 2,848
for the first two months of 2018. In
response, vendors large and small are
releasing patches on a daily basis.
Enterprise IT teams clearly need to
focus on endpoint security
management to ensure business
success in the mobile-cloud era.
Endpoint security challenges
Keeping endpoints up to date with
the latest versions of their OSes and
applications has become a full-time
job, one that is getting harder to
perform in the mobile enterprise. A
growing challenge is the diversity of
endpoint operating systems that must
be managed, including Android, iOS,
MacOS, Windows, Linux, and
Chrome OS. For each, the IT team
must learn that OS along with its
corresponding patching technique.
Likewise, applications acquired from
the various app stores are managed
with different techniques that must be
learned and mastered so that the team
can secure the endpoints.
Another challenge is managing the
endpoints from day one, especially
mobile devices. While it’s been
relatively easy for IT admins to
install agent software on desktops
and laptops, smart phones and other
mobile devices make life harder for
the admins because the devices are
rarely if ever connected to the
corporate network. Consequently,
devices must be provisioned with the
necessary mobile device
management software before they are
given to end users. Devices that are
not appropriately managed are
security risks, so no business
application should be installed or run
on them.
Related to the day-one management
challenge is updating endpoints that
are on the go, anytime and anywhere.
IT teams must be able to install
critical patches while employees are
traveling, commuting, or otherwise
offsite.
Data leakage presents yet another
security challenge for IT teams to
overcome. Data leakage can happen
with or without the users’ knowledge.
For instance, users may knowingly
copy business data to a USB device
or upload it to a cloud storage
service. They may also unknowingly
expose that data to a public cloud
service when using third-party apps
such as document viewers and
predictive keyboard apps. Such apps
may compromise user IDs and
passwords, account numbers, and
other sensitive enterprise data by
exposing it to public cloud services.
When a user’s device is lost or
stolen, the IT team must be able to
track and recover the device or wipe
the data if the device isn’t recovered.
To maintain the user’s privacy,
however, the IT team can not
continuously track the location of the
user’s device.
BYOD presents another privacy vs
security challenge: When users use
their own devices for business
purposes, privacy needs to be
maintained. Photos, contacts, and
other personal data should not be
Industry Insider
www.insightssuccess.com September 2019 | 17
20. managed by company’s mobile device management app.
On the other hand, security needs to be maintained, too.
To that end, the IT team should create a container on the
user’s personal device – a secure, managed area that
isolates business email, CRM, and other enterprise apps
and data from the rest of user’s personal apps/data.
To establish strong endpoint security and prevent
unwanted attacks, IT teams must apply strict security
policies on their endpoints. Laptops, for instance, should
always run a firewall, prevent the creation of unwanted
network shares, and encrypt data via BitLocker or
FileVault. Such security policies can protect enterprises
from the security risks posed by mobility.
Predicting the development of data and endpoint
management
Going forward, machine learning and AI will help make
data and endpoint management a proactive, rather than a
reactive process. For instance, these technologies could
prevent data theft by detecting anomalies such as
unusual login activities or an unusually large number of
documents being uploaded to the cloud. They could
analyze the root cause of patch deployment failures and
suggest fixes. They could also detect system idle times –
during lunch hours, for instance – to deploy patches as
soon as possible rather wait until after hours or
weekends, which can leave systems unnecessarily
vulnerable.
Meanwhile, the internet of things (IoT) will introduce
many organizations to a new breed of endpoints and
connected devices. Unlike their iOS- and Android-
powered predecessors, IoT devices will be running many
different OSes and applications, all of which may be
vulnerable yet must be managed and secured.
Finally, most business applications are moving to the
cloud and accessed via browser, effectively making the
browser an endpoint. That means to defend against
attacks, IT teams need to manage browsers and perform
all security operations for them just as if they were
desktops, laptops, or any other device.
As organizations continue to adopt mobility and the
cloud, they must also adopt the practices necessary to
support this new reality. Data and endpoint security and
management are priority one in IT departments. For the
vast majority of companies around the world, their future
success depends on recognizing and committing to that
priority.

Cyber-Physical IoT network security, providing solutions
for both Enterprise and Government clients. Its customer
acquisitions have been across multiple verticals such as
Healthcare, Critical Infrastructure, Hospitality, Global data-
centers, as well as Government.
What makes 802’s solutions unique is that it addresses the
ever-increasing IoT risks stemming from unmanaged,
unsecured, and misconfigured IoT devices and networks,
OT networks, and Shadow IoT. This evolution requires a
new level of visibility across not only wired IT networks
but the surrounding physical environment (off-network
systems). Gartner and NIST refer to this emerging attack
vector as Cyber-Physical Security.
802 Secure provides visibility into the Cyber-Physical
Security blind-spot, combining edge security with
centralized cloud threat intelligence.
Protecting Clients with Ground-Breaking Solutions
802 Secure’s AirShield is autonomous and non-intrusive
monitoring and protection solution that provides immediate
visibility and cyber security protection for both IT and OT
networks. AirShield provides threat intelligence across
multiple wireless protocols and frequencies to detect
devices and systems to protect against misconfigurations,
Shadow IoT, unknown and unmanaged IoT devices, and
previously undetected wireless attacks. It protects the
infrastructure from Cyber-Physical IoT wireless threats
using wireless deep packet inspection, situational
awareness, zero trust, anomaly detection, and behavioral
analysis. Traditional WiFi vendors are focused on
protecting their networks, not OT networks or Shadow IoT

The Industry Veteran
Garry Drummond, the CEO and founder of 802 Secure is
a 20-year-old veteran in the information security industry.
He attended Clackmannan College School of Business,
Scotland, where he studied Business Studies. Gary’s diverse
background uniquely combines cross-functional sales and
business development skills driving the company’s vision
for addressing the problem space of wireless, IoT and
Cyber Physical Security.
Successful organizations share two characteristics: they are
smart, and they are healthy. An organization demonstrates
that it is smart by developing intelligent strategies,
marketing plans, product features, and financial models that
lead to an upper hand over its competitors. The company
demonstrates that it is healthy by eliminating politics and
confusion.
Implementing and reinforcing organization clarity is vital to
executing the business well. “I like to accomplish this by
building and maintaining a united leadership team, create
organizational clarity by eliminating any confusion within
the company and lead from the front — over-
communicating the goals and the direction of the
company,” says Garry.
When Trust is the Ultimate Currency
802 Secure believes that, trust is the ultimate currency; it’s
the way to advance development by opening an individual’s
potential. Building trust in the workforce builds
respect—for the business and people. The leaders of 802

IMD and Co-founder of Gooee, shares some key
insights on his contribution in the company and how a
team of experienced lighting, space & building specialists,
is focused on providing a global building performance
solution using best in class software and hardware.
Gooee has developed a Gooee IoT Building Intelligence
Platform unifying building control, communication, sensing
and data analytics, resulting in the ability to obtain a
‘Single-Pane View’ across multiple, siloed building
systems. Platform applications focus on Building
Performance Solutions for Tenants, Facilities Managers,
and Building owners.
This convergence of infrastructure and data drives software-
based solutions that result in economic and operational
benefits, which can include energy savings, space
optimization and efficiency, and occupant wellbeing and
productivity.
Gooee is differentiated from other IoT systems through it
being interoperable, a full stack solution, privacy focused
and by its ability to provide a ‘single pane’ view.
Below are the highlights of the interview:
What are the innovative IoT solutions offered by Gooee?
Gooee provides SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) apps that sit
on top of a network; unifying control, comms, sensing and
data analytics to provide real-time interaction across
building sub-systems and the occupants. Users benefit from
a hardware solution that creates flexible applications for
tenants.
TM
Gooee’s LightView , designed to optimize the demands of
lighting, control and sensing, is futureproofed; wireless and
fully updatable over the air. Complementary solutions
TM
include SpaceView , which captures human behavior and
TM
environmental analytics, and BuildView , an Operating
System for managing BMS’s and optimize the building and
the tenants that operate within them using data-driven
insights.
How does Gooee instigate innovation in its work
culture?
Working in a startup that creates new technology and value
propositions is challenging and rewarding at the same time.
To promote creativity and innovation, Gooee encourages a
fluid and flexible approach, encouraging teamwork within a
flat structure.
How do you strategize your game plans to tackle
competition in the market?
Gooee’s focus is on its own technology and developments
to ensure our solution is the best it can be for Lighting and
Sensing environments. Understanding the importance of
end user requirements and determining the best solution
that would achieve mass adoption of smart lighting is our
goal. Knowing that our customers have several systems that
need to be managed, we have ensured the system is
interoperable unlike competitors. It is our capabilities that
set us apart from competitors.
What are the challenges faced while providing
innovative IoT solutions and how is Gooee serving to
tackle them?
The key challenge has been to get the right people within a
business to understand and consider the benefits of an IoT
lighting system, trusting what it can do and that it actually
can be achieved. Education has been vital in this respect
and Gooee has aimed to do this from the very start.
Security has also caused companies to stall when it comes
to businesses adopting smart lighting. Although Gooee’s
system is one of the most secure, obtaining trust from
businesses can prove difficult due to their knowledge of
other companies’ lack of security in the news.
What according to you could be the potential future of
Gooee and how do you envision sustaining its
competency?
Gooee’s platform is being installed and utilized in a
commercial environment. Gooee and Croonwolter&dros
have signed a contract that will connect more than 5,000
buildings managed by Croonwolter&dros in the
Netherlands, onto the Gooee Building Intelligence
Platform. The company is the first smart technology firm in
the world to win a project that connects more than 5,000

buildings to its Platform. Gooee’s Building Operating
System will take control of inefficient, existing building
systems to optimize both building and business
performance. With almost 12million sq.m being maintained
and serviced by Croonwolter&dros, just 10% saving on
energy alone would save €120M in costs over the 10-year
agreement.
This is just the start for Gooee. We envisage this to continue
due to Gooee’s differentiating capabilities. Future proofing
the system was always our objective; this will enable us to
adapt to new technology as and when they are introduced.
Testimonials from Clienteles
Bas Ambachtsheer, President at Croonwolter&dros, says
“If people thought buildings were smart now, they are in for
a shock. A system like Gooee, which integrates into our
total proposition of ‘getting-a-grip’on a building, will
become a standard. I am pleased to say that I’m going to
use Gooee as the main solution provider and roll it out
across our portfolio in combination with a smart front-end
app solution from our strategic partner, Office App. But this
is just the beginning. Implementing the Gooee platform,
starting with BUILDVIEW™ across our estate enables us
to gain visibility throughout our portfolio and offer clients
an enhanced service with improved operational efficiency.”
François van Burk, one of the founders of Building Bright
says: “One of the largest real estate consultants,
Croonwolter & dros, starts using Gooee. The same applies
to the lighting manufacturers Sylvania Lighting and Aurora.
These big players recognize Gooee’s added-value. For
example, organizations no longer have to pay for dozens of
licenses. And this is just one example. Recently, someone I
have a close working relationship with told me: “If I don’t
have to spend an arm and a leg to change something about
a room, it sounds like a perfect solution.”
About the Founders
Founder & CEO, Andrew Johnson co-founded Gooee
alongside Neil Salt (serving as Managing Director) and
Simon Coombes (CTO). Neil’s lighting and technology

31. Recently, I sat in a client road map meeting to
discuss a major platform migration effort. Their VP
of Technology, QA engineer, orchestration
architect, and software development director walked
through the delivery plan of how content would be moved
from one automation platform to the new platform. While
the major topic was not software integration, the questions
continued to arise around integration, APIs, and the
interaction of these within the systems. In tech, we all know
that integration is at the center of almost any project
because so many groups are on disparate technologies and
solutions. Teams are sold into multi-year license
agreements, managers find their preferential tools, or
companies fall into the age-old “it’s the way we’ve always
done it” and end up on different solutions or even different
versions of software.
Both the VP of Technology and the QA engineer brought up
the point that multiple groups were using different ticketing,
support, development, and project management tools to
complete their work across the entire company. None of the
technologies talked to each other and most of the teams
were based in different regions, effectively siloed from
collaboration. A major issue with these disparate solutions
is the lack of reporting, which ultimately means a lack of
visibility into the system. The VP, Director, and QA
engineer are all looking for report-outs of various items—
development status, API calls, use percentages, release
timelines, or others. How do you know what is functioning
well versus what is hanging up in a system? This translates
to: how can you determine a successful ROI versus what is
ineffective? We know that at the heart of every customer’s
end-game is revenue return. By mentioning the variety of
software that teams were using, the client was really saying
that there was a void in their software solutions.
Development is working on deliverables in Jira, QA is
testing in Swagger, and management is missing reports of
the entire release process. The void is the lack of visibility.
Traditionally, integrated software solutions are thought to
be technologies like Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative
Suite, AppleWorks, etc. that bring a variety of software
tools into a one license, one suite download. As the market
changes and companies look at increasing revenue and
reducing operations burden, there becomes a need for
integration across multiple software solutions that is not as
simple as “click and save.” With APIs and the increasing
amount of connections that various tools include,
integration across these solutions becomes an expectation
for any customer. When I assess a tool, I automatically look
for integrations. Can I connect my CRM to my marketing
automation platform? Can I connect my project
management tool to my company’s instant messaging? Can
I integrate my QA tools with my development solution to
speed-up releases?
As a standard, customers now look for unified systems to
accelerate growth and improve business productivity. As
competition increases, it becomes paramount to provide a
first-class customer experience and satisfy customer
expectations from the start. If you are unable to provide
integrated software solutions from implementation and
quickly resolve issues with hang-ups in systems speaking to
each other, customer satisfaction levels drop and the risk of
losing the client rises exponentially. It is vital to launch new
products, projects, or experiences with the end-user in
mind; proper planning of the pain points before launch
enables faster revenue for both you and the customer.
While it can be time consuming to develop the target
mission and pain points prior to a sales pitch, the
comprehensive big-picture ultimately enables you to spend
more time on customer acquisition and retention efforts
instead of developing or resolving software solutions after
the fact. Investments of both time and resources at the start
can feel like a burden as it cuts into short-term revenue
goals; however, long-term growth evolves from the ability
to nurture customer relationships through the understanding
of their frustrations and bottom lines. Through
understanding the customer’s need for integration first, we
enable bigger, faster, and more frequent growth
opportunities.
If customers demand integrated software solutions outside
of the traditional one suite downloads, how can today’s
software providers and customized service providers meet
this demand and improve the customer experience?
Ensuring that your services integrate with a variety of
technologies and software solutions have integration points
to connect to a multitude of solutions is a great starting
point. At our company, we ensure that we stay up-to-speed
on changing technologies and market demands to remain
agile in the vendor space. Our independence and expertise
to many solutions allows us to work across any vertical
with any technology to meet any demand. Ultimately, it is
not a single IT strategy that drives customer experience, but
really the broader business strategy that fosters their
experience, long-term loyalty, and complete satisfaction.

innovative wireless technologies have
revolutionized our lives in so many ways – from
immediate, multi-faceted connectivity between individuals
to revolutionary tools to help businesses save time and
money and improve their returns on investment. Many
areas of rural America, however, aren’t equipped
with a wireless infrastructure to make all of this
possible and, as technology and networks
continue to evolve at lightning speed,
delivering holistic solutions to remote
geographic areas is even more
challenging. Internet of Things
America (IoT America) is
working to change all that.
IoT America provides
managed services that
enable municipalities and
businesses of all kinds to take
advantage of new digital
innovations, improve the efficiency
and effectiveness of their existing
operations and manage their technology
ecosystems easily and precisely, in real-time.
In partnership with existing communications
providers, IoT America helps customers access the
data they need to make faster, more-informed decisions
that increase efficiency, enhance production, preserve
natural resources and protect their valuable physical assets.
A key member of IoT America’s Executive Team is Jeff
Klaumann, Chief Operating Officer. Jeff grew up in rural
America, and members of his family still own and operate
farms. With this background, Jeff understands the unique
opportunities and challenges that exist for businesses
operating outside of urban centers. His expertise in business
operations, wireless connectivity, technology strategy,
lifecycle management and network deployment have
manifested in a unique service provider that empowers
customers, as well as wireless channel partners.
IoT America’s strategy, and Mr. Klaumann’s, vision is to
simplify technology for farmers and ranchers, enabling the
company to service clients across rural America, manage
private and public network deployments and form strong
partnerships with global IoT-solution companies.
Improving Operations with Proven Technology
The managed-services offerings from IoT America
provide solutions that measure soil moisture and
temperature for golf courses, city parks,
universities and all types of agriculture,
such as orchards, vineyards, row crops,
and horticultural land used for bulbs,
flowers and tree care. Soil-
monitoring technology remotely
measures soil temperature
and moisture levels. Other
solution services include
trackers for businesses,
farmers, and local
governments to locate
equipment, vehicles or other
physical assets, as well as fill-level
monitoring for waste bins or liquid
containers. All of these services deliver
actionable data to help transform enterprise
and agricultural operations.
“Many farmers, ranchers and businesses are still using
time-consuming, manual methods to run their
operations,” Klaumann commented. “They gauge soil
moisture levels by a ‘feel’ test, confirm soil health by
collecting samples, and send them to a testing
facility—which takes an extended time to get the results.
They manage water tanks, feed bins and assets by
physically inspecting their land, which, in some cases, can
comprise of thousands of acres. By using IoT America
wireless sensors instead, key data is automatically sent to a
machine-learning, cloud-based platform, enabling farmers
to see real-time information on a web dashboard and know
precisely when it’s time to adjust irrigation, fertilization,
pest control, replenish tanks and bins and more. They can
save time, save money and get better results.”

Customer-first Mindset
Farmers and ranchers have different day-to-day needs than
those of campus-based organizations or local
municipalities. That’s why IoT America develops
customized service packages for its customers that address
their needs, solve their problems and provide measurable
returns on investment. As new technologies are launched in
the marketplace, IoT America is proactive in testing and
evaluating them to determine whether they’re of bottom-
line value to customers, and that they’ll deliver their
promised results.
It’s all part of IoT America’s customer-first mindset and
corporate culture. Its highly experienced team has decades
of technology and mobility experience. The company is
fanatical about providing the highest quality service to all
of its clients, and it seeks solution providers and partners
that share its vision and approach.
The company also fosters creativity and entrepreneurship
within its own workplace, and encourages team members to
explore and share new discoveries and ideas that can benefit
clients. A true collaborative environment, IoT America
leadership promotes individual forward-thinking and
teamwork support, provides its employees with the freedom
to create, and takes resulting new ideas and suggestions
seriously.
Working Alongside Clients
One of the biggest challenges within today’s Internet of
Things marketplace is that it’s a crowded space with several
companies offering only parts of a bigger solution. As a
result, it can be difficult for customers to understand which
solution will address their needs best, how to install the
devices and how to manage the wireless network. Many
times, customers invest in a product based on what it’s
supposed to do, only to realize after the sale that the product
doesn’t deliver because a key component of the bigger
solution is missing.
IoT America managed services addresses this issue by
working closely with its clients every step of the way to
identify their needs and concerns, identify the optimal
solution, manage the installation, test it thoroughly, provide
ongoing management and support and–as they become
available–install upgrades to enhance a solution’s
performance or capabilities.
Exemplifying Satisfaction
“The devices, software and wireless networks known as
“the Internet of Things” has proven its potential and ROI,”
Klaumann added. “IoT America is among the first to deliver
those capabilities, along with managed services, to a
significantly underserved market while keeping our finger
on the pulse of continued advancements in wireless
technologies. Beyond being recognized as an innovator, we
want to be known as the trusted partner that helps
customers in rural America transform their businesses, their
operations, and their bottom line like never before.”

WThings, each passing days more and more
things including cars, cameras, equipment,
speakers, health devices are getting connected to the
internet. And since then where ever I look, whomever I
ask, I’m seeing people going gaga over this technology.
Now! Don’t get me wrong! I’m not against the use of
IoT devices, I love technology and IoT obviously will
play a big role in every industry. However, for a person
like me, who is always paranoid about his security and
privacy IoT does ring few bells.
Personally, I’d never like to see my fancy self-driving
car being controlled or tracked by some shady
personalities or someone listening through the smart
speakers or someone hacking my phone’s or laptop’s
webcam. The last thing I would like to be hacked is the
security system of my house, which can eventually put
my beloved family at risk.
You may ask; why such paranoia? It is because I love
my privacy!
So! What should I do? Basically, we need to stick to
few basic points and know the challenges that are
currently plaguing the world of IoT. In this article I’ll
share some of those challenges, that are affecting IoT
devices.
Future in tech
www.insightssuccess.com September 2019 | 35
38. Ÿ The Age old Issue of Default Passwords: If you are
well versed with IoT, you might know the name of
Mirai botnet. This botnet caused few of the largest
and most destructive/disruptive DDoS attacks across
the globe, and it is one of the best examples of the
issue that occur while shipping devices with default
passwords and not notifying customers to change
them into a more complex one.
The one and only reason this attack was so successful,
is that Mirai successfully identified those vulnerable IoT
devices and used default ids and password to infiltrate
and infect them.
Ÿ Small Scale Attacks: Back in 2017, another botnet
named Reaper came into foray. Reaper was
potentially much more dangerous than the famed
Mirai mostly due to its small-scale attacks that often
evade detection.
Ÿ Home Security: Since the invention of IoT devices,
they are being used in home and office automation.
For some which is a need and some merely a cool
gadget. However, very small number of people
know IoT devices can expose the IP addresses of its
users and can pinpoint the residential address. Later
on, this vital information can be sold in the dark-
web, jeopardizing personal security.
Ÿ Accessing Vehicles: With the growing usage of self-
drive cars, a skilled hijacker can get access a smart
car through remote access. At the end which can be
lethal as anyone can have control over your car and
leave you vulnerable to various crimes.
Ÿ Ransomware Attacks: Ransomware attacks have
recently brought the world of internet to its knees,
and IoT devices are not completely protected against
those ransomware either. A ransomware attack could
potentially disable or limit the functionality of IoT
devices and stealing user data at the same time.
So, at the end all I can say, adopting a multi-layered
security while developing IoT devices is essential for
security. Also by keeping few basic pointers like using
stronger passwords and multi-point security systems
one can avert the attack.

We live in amazing time of fourth
industrial revolution. The industrial
revolution surpasses the scope of
ICT, transforms the world and
businesses, jobs and life styles. The
concepts such as digital
transformation, artificial intelligence
and connected objects, incarnated
into smartphones, are already hiding
in our pockets. The self-driving cars
leave science fiction and arrive into
reality. The old professions go into
oblivion and get replaced by new
exciting jobs.
The artificial intelligence based
solutions are already present in many
cross-domains and quite often used
by professionals and businesses to
smarter use time and improve
productivity. These solutions can
manage financial portfolios and
decrypt genetic code, pilot robots and
drive cars, entertain people and even
be creative. As an example, the

surpasses any imagination.
Constantly increasing and improving
population of digital objects results
in constantly improving quantity and

connected wearable heart monitor wristbands to
connected pullovers, from connected security cameras to
connected alarms, from connected parking lot sensors to
connected displays of available places.
The internet of things in turn enables smart tiers of
technologies as smart homes, smart parking, smart traffic
control and smart cities. The smart home hubs control
communication among connected thermostats and stores,
heating systems and other connected objects to enable
home automation, energy savings and higher quality of
life. The smart cities enable to reduce traffic jams and
adjust public transportation in real-time, tighten security
control and predict unforeseen events, reduce noise
pollution and improve air quality.
Constantly connected digital gadgets continue to pull
further more people from reality to social networks and
virtual worlds. The choice of remote communication
still outfights real life communication. The picture of the
family together with each member navigating within its
own virtual world on smartphone starts to be everyday
occurrence. The same picture can be observed in the
trains, airports and other places. However, some people
started to apply reasonable moderation.
Even when people put away connected gadgets and back
to physical world, the following interaction might be
with nearby humanoid robot. Powered with same
artificial intelligence as their virtual compatriots, they
can follow conversations, understand individual social
signals and respond appropriately. Their social
interaction ability keeps improving, making future
humanoid robots irreplaceable companions and assistants
in nursing homes and hospitals, hotels and
commercial stores.
The industrial robots are separate topic. The global
robot density in the manufacturing industries is
accelerating around the world and there is already at
least one industrial robot per 100 working people in
more than 20 countries worldwide. The ongoing trend to
automate production helps industries to be more
competitive on the global market and has positive impact
on job market in many countries due to manufacturing
stays at home instead of being moved overseas.
The tangible shift in professions happens with all
industrial revolutions. The current one is not an
exception. Some professions get automated, freeing up
people to do new tasks: data management, data
interpretation, digital marketing management, robot
supervision, process control, process moderation,
intervention in unforeseen situations, quality control and
so on. The automated places can enable work week
reduction and equilibrate shift in social insurances
caused by increasing life expectancy.
The advances in technologies enable to process more
data with less energy and smarter use available
resources. The paradox in our society is that the focus
still stays on profitability and growth over durability and
climate sustainability. As consequence, the digital
footprint on global energy consumption keeps
increasing from year to year and can reach one fifth by
2030, regardless it is feasible to pursue industrial
revolution at moderate pace within fixed energetic
envelope until there is an excess of renewable energy.
The years will pass. The artificial intelligence, big data
and internet of things will become ordinary tools in
many areas of our life just like electricity and telephones,
internet and personal computers did during previous
industrial revolutions. No one will be questioning them
anymore. They stay under human control. The human
society is free to decide up to which extent new
technologies and innovations have to be validated,
regulated and certified for future everyday use.
