Thanksgiving is celebrated annually in the US, Canada, and other countries on the fourth Thursday of November. It commemorates a 1621 feast shared by Pilgrim colonists and Wampanoag Native Americans in Plymouth, Massachusetts. During Thanksgiving, people express gratitude to God for blessings and give thanks to loved ones. Families come together for feasting, which traditionally includes turkey, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, corn, and other foods. The first Thanksgiving was proclaimed by the US Congress in 1789 designating the last Thursday of November as a day of national thanksgiving.
