Abraham is used as an example to show that righteousness comes through faith rather than works. The scripture says that Abraham believed God and it was reckoned to him as righteousness. For those who trust in God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is reckoned as righteousness rather than any works. David also speaks of the blessedness of those to whom God reckons righteousness apart from works and does not reckon their sins against them.
