Take part in Mencap’s Spellathon

From October to 31st March 2013 your school
can compete against thousands of others by
     taking part in Mencap’s Spellathon
What is Mencap’s Spellathon?
Spellathon is a free, digital spelling competition for UK schools,
open to all ages and abilities.

The aim, collectively as a school, is to spell as many words
correctly as you can, in class and at home, using free Spellathon
spelling resources whilst fundraising for Mencap.
Spellathon Resources
When you register your school you gain access to FREE spelling games and resources, including:

     –   Whiteboard spelling conventions game
     –   Assembly video by Stephen Fry
     –   Spellathon games
     –   Letter to parents
     –   and many more free resources

•Spellathon games record all words spelt correctly by pupils whilst playing the games
•Easy pupil log in
•Set up classes, track individual student’s progress and review misspelt word reports
•Thousands of words have been selected to reflect the national curriculum
Fundraising for Mencap
How?
•Set a target number of words your
school pledges to spell collectively

•A JustGiving page is set up with your
school’s details

•Pupils ask friends and family to sponsor
their spelling efforts

•Free fundraising resources – e.g. letters
to parents, pre populated emails,
fundraising guides
Fundraising for Mencap
Why?
•Mencap is the leading voice of
learning disability. It provides advice,
high-quality flexible services and
campaigns for change.

    – £20 could help pay for an
      advice pack for families who
      have just found out that their
      new baby has a learning
      disability

    – £250 could buy a tactile
      activity panel with lots of
      different textures and objects
      for children to stroke, press
      and thump.
Prizes & other incentives
•School raising most money per head by 25 March wins a £10,000 cash prize
•Schools that raise a minimum £100 online by 21 November enter prize draw to win a
Fujifilm digital Camera
•Schools raising a minimum £300 online by 4 February enter a prize draw to win
50 tickets to theme parks

Other incentives:
•Schools can receive 25% of what students raise
•Personalised certificates for participating pupils
