Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

päť rokov, a už dva roky po sebe získala prestížne ocenenie Blogerka
roku 2014 a 2015 v Českej republike. Momentálne vymenila nórsky
pokoj za rušný život v Prahe, kde spolu s manželom založili vlastnú
firmu Elite Bloggers. A ako sa teda zo záľuby môže stať práca na trvalý
úväzok? O tom, ale aj o mnohých ďalších aspektoch, ktoré formovali
Terezin profesijný aj osobný život nám porozprávala samotná autorka

Prečo ste sa rozhodli odísť do Nórska?
Do Nórska som sa odsťahovala v septembri 2011 za svojim vtedajším
priateľom, z ktorého sa za dva roky stal môj manžel. Srdce ma vždy
ťahalo do Škandinávie. Ani neviem prečo. Možno preto, lebo som si
medzi severanmi pripadala ako doma. Mám severské rysy, plavé vlasy
a pripadá mi, že mám aj veľmi podobný štýl života a premýšľanie.
Trúfam si povedať, že so severskými národmi musím byť nejak gene-
ticky prepojená. Inak si to nedokážem vysvetliť.
V čom sa životný štýl Nórov líši od toho nášho „československého“?
Nórsko je nádherná a pokojná krajina. Život mi tam až do chvíle, keď som si dlhý čas
nemohla nájsť prácu v odbore, pripadal omnoho jednoduchší ako v Českej republike.
Väčšina vecí tam naozaj funguje. Ako na úradoch, tak pri štúdiu na univerzite. Žilo sa
mi tam veľmi dobre. Nórsky vzduch mi chýba rovnako tak, ako fakt, že Oslo je malé,

veľmi čisté a veľmi úzko spojené s nádhernou a divokou prírodou. Nikdy ma nepres-
tane udivovať Oslo fjord, ktorý je úchvatný za každého počasia a ročného obdobia.
Niekedy dramatický, niekedy zamrznutý, inokedy romantický. Zimy boli niekedy po-
nurejšie a vždy som sa nemohla dočkať jari a svetlých dní. Čo sa týka životného štýlu,
ten nórsky mi pripadá omnoho zdravší. Nóri veľmi čašto športujú, žijú v súľade s prí-
rodou. Už od útleho veku trávia väčšinu času vonku, menej pracujú a viac odpočívajú.
Podľa môjho názoru má tento pomalší životný štýl veľmi dobrý vplyv na zdravie a spo-
kojnosť ľudí. Tú spokojnosť a pohodu zacítite od prvej chvíle v Nórsku. Aspoň ja som
ju pocítila.
Dvakrát za sebou ste získali ocenenie Blogerka roku. Badáte nejaké zmeny vo
svojom živote pred súťažou a po dvojnásobnom ocenení?
Spolu s víťazstvom prišla aj obrovská motivácia písať ďalej, možno aj vo väčšej frek-
vencii, a blog neustále zlepšovať. Je to neopísateľne nádherný pocit cítiť tak obrovskú
podporu čitateľov, ktorí si našli čas a hlasovali. Vždy to boli, sú aj budú práve moji či-
tatelia a ich spätná väzba, ktorá ma uisťuje, že písanie blogu má cenu. Ak sa nájde
aspoň jeden človek, s ktorým môj životný príbeh pohne a inšpiruje ho plniť si hoci aj
jediný sen, má to pre mňa zmysel. Výhra v Blogerke roku je pre mňa čerešničkou na
už aj tak výbornej torte. Občas ma na ulici stretne niekto z mojich čitateľov. Vždy sa
veľmi teším, keď môžem niekoho ďalšieho spoznať aj osobne. Presviedča ma to o
tom, že čísla, ktoré vidím na blogu každý deň, sú reálni ľudia. A nejaké ďalšie zmeny?
Ľudia ma začali oslovovať pre celú radu zaujímavých aj nezaujímavých projektov.
Chodí mi veľmi veľa emailov. Než som začala písať blog, prišiel mi tak jeden za deň.
Dnes sú ich desiatky. Občas ma to trochu aj desí.
Čo vám písanie blogu dalo a čo možno vzalo?
Písanie blogu mi otvorilo mnoho dverí. Niektoré sú veľmi zaujímavé, iné som radšej
nechala zavreté. Stretla som veľa zaujímavých a inšpiratívnych ľudí, od ktorých sa
vždy snažím niečo naučiť. Veľmi rada počúvam starších, skúsenejších a vzdelanejších
ľudí. Písanie blogu mi poskytlo možnosť stretnúť sa s nimi. Mám tú česť pracovať na
veľkom množstve projektov, o ktorých sa mi ani nesnívalo a v neposlednej dobe mi
písanie blogu privialo príležitosť napísať moju vlastnú knihu.
A čo mi písanie blogu vzalo? Možno čas, ktorý by som mohla stráviť inak. Aj keď si
teraz vlastne ani neviem predstaviť ako inak. Písanie milujem, takže vynaložený čas
vôbec neľutujem. Mnoho ľudí sa ma pýta, či mi nevadí, že blog mi vzal súkromie. Na
blogovaní je skvelé to, že je len na vás, čo sa rozhodnete zverejniť. Nikto vás nenúti.
Otvorilo vám písanie blogu nové cesty čo sa pracovných možností týka?
Áno. A v poslednej dobe ich bolo nezvyčajne veľa. Pred niekoľkými dňami som na-
príklad dostala ponuku na miesto šéfredaktorky v jednom časopise. Pred niekoľkými
mesiacmi by som za takou ponukou trhala ruky, teraz som vzhľadom k okolnostiam
musela odmietnuť.
Má vaše blogovanie nejaké presné pravidlá
(publikujete v rovnaký deň,alebo časti dňa), alebo sa skôr riadite
momentálnym rozpoložením a časovými možnosťami?
Niekoľkokrát som sa snažila nastaviť si nejaké pravidlá - napríklad blogovať vždy v
dané dni, alebo pravidelne striedať jednotlivé témy. Nikdy mi to dlho nevydržalo. Po-
stupom času som dospela k tomu, že život sám píše pre môj blog najlepší scenár a
toho sa držím. Píšem, keď mám náladu písať. Niekedy to môže byť dvakrát denne,
niekedy len dvakrát týždenne.
Ako vyzerá bežný deň TerezyInOslo v Prahe a ako v Osle?
Bežný deň v Prahe vyzerá dosť hekticky. Skoré vstávanie, beh/jóga/stretching. Priala
by som si, aby som cvičením mohla začínať každý deň, ale nie vždy to však vyjde.

Potom sa s manželom vyberieme do Elite Bloggers Hubu. Je to zázemie pre blogerky,
ktoré zastupujeme, a naša kancelária v jednom. Z práce odchádzame okolo 19.- 20.
hodine večer. Spravidla sa zastavíme niekde na večeru, pretože vôbec nestíham variť,
nie ešte nakupovať suroviny. Večer sa snažím ešte odpovedať na emaily od čitateľov,
alebo napísať dojmy z celého dňa. Väčšinou pri tom aj zaspím.
Deň TerezyInOslo v Osle býval omnoho pokojnejší a možno aj nudnejší. Nestretávala
som sa často s ľuďmi. Boli dni, keď som za celý deň videla len manžela Johna Erika.
V zime som rada vyspávala, pretože bola dlho tma. V lete som po ránach chodievala
behať. Mala som veľa času na cvičenie. Niekedy som cvičila aj niekoľko hodín denne.
Posledný polrok som väčšinu dní presedela pri počítači a posielala životopisy. Zároveň
som pracovala aj na zopár projektoch, dopoludnia som sa, napríklad, vybrala na nákup
alebo na prechádzku a každý deň som varila večeru. Myslím, že by som sa do takého
života na pár dní rada vrátila. Ale naozaj len na niekoľko dní.
Čo si myslíte o blogoch a sponzorstve, kde je tá správna hranica, aby tej
reklamy nebolo príliš, ale aby autor blogu mohol využívať tieto výhody?
Niekoľko rokov som blogovala bez toho, aby som z blogu mala materiálne alebo aké-
koľvek výhody. Bola som úplným odporcom reklamy na blogu a tvrdila som, že ju
nikdy na blogu mať ani nebudem. V tej chvíli som si neuvedomovala, že mojim čita-
teľom mnoho vecí odporúčam a vlastne tým reklamu na blogu mám. Len za ňu nie
som platená. V časoch, keď som v Nórsku študovala na univerzite a zároveň aj praco-
vala mi na blogovanie nezostával čas. Trhalo mi srdce, že denne na blog prídu tisícky
ľudí, ktorí čakajú na článok, ktorý tam zas nie je. Dlho som premýšľala, ako by som
si mohla dovoliť blogovať naplno. Odpoveď bola jednoduchá. Uvedomila som si, že
ak chcem blogovať ďalej, musím nájsť vhodnú formu, ako byť aspoň zčasti za prácu

na blogu finančne ohodnotená. Mnoho ponúk na spoluprácu som zo začiatku odmie-
tala, keď však prišla prvá, ktorá ma zaujala páve preto, že som produkt od tejto firmy
niekoľko rokov sama používala a milovala, našla som cestu, ktorá bola prijateľná pre
mňa aj pre mojich čitateľov. Ponúkli mi skvelé podmienky aj finančné ohodnotenie a
dali mi úplnú voľnosť vo forme propagácie a to dávalo zmysel. Pochopila som, že som
to ja, kto určuje podmienky spolupráce. Nikdy by som na blogu nedoporučila produkt,
ktorému stopercentne neverím, alebo ho sama nepoužívam. Jednou z mojich najo-
bľúbenejších kooperácií je s mojím obľúbeným kvetinárstvom v Prahe, z ktorého mi
pravidelne posielajú čerstvé kvety. Veľký dôraz však kladiem na to, aby blogovanie
zostalo etické a reklama na blogu bola označená. Keď som raz porovnala čítanosť
môjho blogu s niektorými obľúbenými online médiami, ostala som v šoku, pretože
moja čítanosť rôzne online médiá mnohonásobne prevyšovala. Premýšľala som teda
nad rozdielom. Prečo z toho redaktorky online médií s menším zásahom majú pravi-
delný príjem a ja nie? Myslím, že v tej chvíli som našla pekný balanc.
Myslíte si, že je blogová sféra v ČR na takej úrovni, aby sa blogovanie mohlo
stať prácou na plný úväzok?
Áno, niektoré blogerky sa už v dnešnej dobe blogovaním živia. Situácia sa neustále
mení. Keď blogerky finančne ohodnotíte, je to pre nich veľká motivácia zlepšovať sa
a vzdelávať v odboroch, o ktorých píšu. Alebo dať výpoveď v práci, ktorá ich natoľko
nenaplňuje a venovať sa naplno blogu.
Ako je to s blogmi v Nórsku? Dá sa tam blogovaním živiť?
Áno a sú ich stovky. Tam je to na úplne inej úrovni. Blogerky sú novodobé celebrity,
pretože sú to reálni ľudia s reálnym životom. Žiadne umelo vytvorené celebrity. My-
slím, že verejnosť vyhľadáva skôr bežného človeka, ktorý denne rieši podobné strasti
a aj slasti života.
Poznajú dvojnásobnú českú Blogerku roku aj v Nórsku?
Našťasie nie. Keď som na jednej nórskej párty u priateľov povedala, že som česká Blo-
gerka roku, skupinka ľudí sa žačala nervózne rozhliadať a hľadať bodyguardov. Nórska
Blogerka roku má nekonečnú pozornosť médií aj širokej verejnosti.
Z vášho blogu vieme, že momentálne pracujete na vlastnej knihe.
Čo vás naviac inšpiruje pri jej písaní?
Samotný život a čitatelia, ktorí na knihu netrpezlivo čakajú. Napísať knihu bol vždy
môj veľký sen. Fakt, že na to nemám toľko času, koľko by som chcela, ma občas v
noci budí zo spánku.
V článkoch často píšete aj o nórskom manželovi a vašom krásnom vzťahu.
To je milé. Ďakujem. Čitatelia môjho blogu majú Johna Erika veľmi radi. Často mi
píšu, kedy už zas budem písať o ňom. Občas mi zdieľa „guest post“, ktorý už pravi-
delne trhá rekordy návštevnosti blogu.
Momentálne často spomínate aj spoločný biznis. Prezradíte, o čo sa jedná?
S radosťou. Naša myšlienka vznikla minulý rok v lete, keď ma oslovila nórska agentúra

s ktorými by som mohla alebo nemusela súhlasiť. Bola som nadšená, lebo by mi dali
šancu robiť to, čo milujem a byť za to aj čiastočne finančne ohodnotená. Môj manžel
John Erik ale v zápätí dostal nápad, že podobný koncept úplne chýba v Českej repu-
blike. Hneď som jeho myšlienky zavrhla. Nechcela som prísť o takú skvelú príležitosť,
bála som sa razantnej zmeny a nechcelo sa mi sťahovať z Nórska. Trvalo pár dní, než
ma presvedčil. Mal skvelé argumenty a nezabudnuteľnú iskru v očiach. Cítila som, že

prišla moja chvíľa splniť životný sen zas jemu. Jednali sme rýchlo, pretože sme si uve-
domili, že sme našli na trhu dieru. A tak sme založili Elite Bloggers. Naša agentúra v
tejto chvíli zastupuje 19 blogeriek (tie tvoria obsah pre 16 blogov) a sprostredkúva
marketingové kampane klientom. V decembri sme otvorili Elite Bloggers Hub, kde
môžu naše blogerky kedykoľvek prísť tvoriť, fotiť, alebo sa len tak stretávať a motivovať.
Zakladáme si na transparentnosti dát a pre každú firmu tvoríme kampaň na mieru.
Do kampaní vždy vyberieme blogerky s najvhodnejším zameraním a cieľovou skupi-
nou a klient musí súhlasiť s faktom, že má blogerka voľnosť napísať o produkte/službe
svoj úprimný názor. Kvalitné blogerky musia byť za čas, dôveru čitateľov a úprimnosť
adekvátne ohodnotené. Ceny máme nastavené na základe návštevnosti blogu a zásahu
blogeriek na sociálnych sieťach. Každú reklamu, ktorú zaistí Elite Bloggers označu-
jeme, aby sme čitateľov neklamali.
V tejto urýchlenej dobe je pre mnohých najväčším luxusom čas.
Čas na svoje koníčky, milovaných ľudí, čas len tak byť. Čo najradšej robíte,
keď nič nemusíte? Čo znamená luxus pre vás?
Ani si nepamätám, kedy som nič nemusela. Ale milujem dlhé brunche s priateľmi,
rodinou, alebo len s manželom. Dokážeme sedieť, jesť a rozprávať sa aj niekoľko
hodín. Luxus pre mňa znamená mať voľnosť a robiť v živote to, čo ma baví. To sa mi
v posledných mesiacoch splnilo. Cesta k tomu však bola veľmi náročná a často dosť
tŕnistá. Niekoľkokrát som to chcela vzdať. Výsledok však stojí za to. Robím kreatívnu
prácu a denne stretávam zaujímavých ľudí. Možno preto dokážem tráviť v práci oveľa
viac hodín, než je bežné. Keď nepracujem, tak píšem blog. Takže mám podľa mojich
slov vlastne celkom luxusný život.
