WEATHER
Weather is an issue for some fixed wireless carriers if not engineered properly. Itās rain that we are mainly concerned about because it creates a physical barrier between point A and point B. To address this issue, we have analyzed the last 30 years of weather data in each city to determine the worst case scenario ā the ā30-year stormā. Based on that data, we engineer the network using the appropriate radios for each city to deliver four nines customer availability within our 5 KM and 10 KM service rings regardless of typical or even extreme weather.
Ice becomes a problem only if it is 1.5 inches or more thick.
SECURITY
Fixed wireless is not WiFi: itās point-to-point, line-of-sight radio transmission. You cannot sit in the parking lot of your office building with your laptop and access TeraGoās network. If someone tried to intercept a customerās transmission, they would have to do the following: physically go to the rooftop; place their equipment within line-of-sight of the hub and within the centre of the transmission path of the radios. Having done all of that, they would be faced with proprietary communications protocols and data cryptography which would render the data useless to them.
There are actually 3 levels of security protecting your data: (1) Each radio manufacturer uses a proprietary, over the air communications protocol that has built-in security. (2) All radios use some form of cryptography. (3) TeraGo programs a link ID in each radio to make sure that only radio A can talk to radio B through MAC address recognition. If a third radio was inserted in front of radio A and B, communication would be denied. With those levels of security, its virtually impossible for an intruder to intercept and decipher your data. By comparison, data that travels over a fibre network is clear and unencrypted. Once a fibre network is breached, the data is available. Finally, Industry Canada guarantees that the licensed spectrum controlled by TeraGo belongs to TeraGo; no one other than TeraGo can transmit data using our frequencies.
