The morning session will cover exploring and learning how to implement various web 2.0 tools in the classroom. The afternoon session will focus on using Ultranet for learning tasks, student assessments and reporting. A list of web 2.0 tools and their uses are also provided to explore during a sandpit time.
Us wireless market_q3_2012_update_nov_2012_chetan_sharma_consultingGustavo Kahil
The US mobile data market grew 3% quarter-over-quarter and 17% year-over-year in Q3 2012. Data now accounts for almost 43% of US mobile industry service revenues, and mobile data revenues are on track to reach $80 billion in 2012. Verizon added 2.4 million new subscribers largely due to strong postpaid growth, while Sprint and T-Mobile saw postpaid declines. T-Mobile and MetroPCS announced a merger, while Softbank will acquire Sprint.
The document provides recommendations for branding the community of Park Hill in North Little Rock, Arkansas. It begins by discussing principles of community branding and how it differs from traditional product branding. It then provides Park Hill's brand statement, outlines ways to extend the brand identity through various mediums, and offers suggestions for signage, banners, bags, and t-shirts to promote the Park Hill brand and identity.
Presented in this short document is a description of our three separate techniques to analyze the data by checking, clustering and componentizing it before it is used by other IMPL’s routines especially in on-line/real-time decision-making applications. We also have other data consistency or analysis techniques which have been described in other IMPL documents and these relate to the application of data reconciliation and regression with diagnostics but require an explicit model (model-based) whereas the techniques below do not i.e., they are data-based techniques.
Time Series Estimation of Gas Furnace Data in IMPL and CPLEX Industrial Model...Alkis Vazacopoulos
Presented in this short document is a description of how to estimate a deterministic and stochastic time-series transfer function models in IMPL using IBM’s CPLEX applied to industrial gas furnace data. The methodology of time-series analysis involves essentially three (3) stages (Box and Jenkins, 1976): (1) model structure identification, (2) model parameter estimation and (3) model checking and diagnostics. We do not address (1) which requires stationarity and seasonality assessment, auto-, cross- and partial-correlation, etc. to establish the transfer function polynomial degrees. Instead we focus only on the parameter estimation and diagnostics. These types of parameter estimation problems involve dynamic and nonlinear relationships shown below and we solve these using IMPL’s nonlinear programming algorithm SLPQPE which uses CPLEX 12.6 as the QP sub-solver.

Developing the next generation of Real Time Optimization Technologies (Blend ...Alkis Vazacopoulos
This document introduces real-time blend optimization for petroleum refineries. It describes modeling multiple blending processes, component tanks, and products over multiple time periods to optimize blending across the refinery. This allows sharing components between blenders to produce on-specification products at lowest cost. It also integrates upstream process models to manipulate feedstock properties before blending. This helps avoid quantity and quality issues during blending and minimize costs.
Abstract: Composer is a tool for managing dependencies in PHP projects. This talk will introduce Composer and its associated package repository Packagist. The key features and benefits of using Composer will be explored and through practical demonstrations you will gain a working knowledge of using Composer for dependency management.
- Large optimization models are increasingly challenging to solve optimally due to super-linear growth in solving effort as model size increases. Parallel heuristic methods provide good quality solutions within practical time limits by solving smaller submodels simultaneously on multiple processor threads.
- Testing on scheduling, supply chain, and telecommunications models found parallel heuristics found high quality solutions for most models in hours, while optimal solutions were impossible within days for some larger models. However, using too many threads showed diminishing returns and even degradation in solution quality due to memory bus bandwidth limitations.
This document outlines the classification and guidelines for 15 and 18 rated films in the UK. Films rated 15 can contain drug use but not the promotion of drugs, horror is allowed unless sadistic, swearing and sexual activity may be shown with restraints, and no one under 15 can view or purchase these films. Guidelines for a 15 rating specify no discrimination, limited drug promotion, horror unless sadistic, and restrictions on suicide, weapons and certain nudity.
This document provides an introduction to the Twenty First Century Science GCSE course, outlining the structure of the modules and assessments, including the topics covered in each module for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, how the modules fit together, and the format and requirements of the GCSE exams. It also defines common command words used in exam questions to help students understand what is being asked of them.
This document discusses a study on the relationship between second language acquisition and schizophrenia. The study found that while schizophrenia causes language deficits in patients' first language, many patients do not show these same deficits when using a second language. The research suggests that studying second language performance could provide useful insights for research on second language acquisition and schizophrenia.
Women Executives Correlates to Startup Successgordonkaren
This Dow Jones research study shows female executives positively
helps VC-backed companies. Particularly at VP and director levels, the participation from female executives makes a significant difference in pushing a company to its success.
This 3-credit course aims to teach doctoral students how to communicate their research to different audiences. It is directed by Cormac McGrath and includes presentations, seminars, and reflection activities. Through practicing oral presentations to varied groups, reflecting on literature about communication skills, and receiving feedback, students will learn to present their work adapted for general audiences, peers, and scientific contexts. Assessment includes a reflective statement and final oral presentation. The course supports the Dublin descriptors for doctoral education in communicating research to peers and society.
This document introduces three famous historical figures through biographical information:
- Beethoven, the famous pianist and composer who was born in 1770 in Germany and died of lung cancer in 1827.
- Michael Jackson, the American singer and dancer known as the "King of Pop" who was born in 1958 in the US and died in 2009 from a negligent homicide by his private doctor.
- Picasso, the renowned Spanish painter, sculptor, and artist born in 1881 in Spain and died in 1973 while dining. He is most famous for his painting Guernica.
It asks the reader to identify who each biography is describing.
- 64% of individual stocks underperformed the market index over their lifetime, with 18.6% dramatically underperforming. In contrast, 6.1% of stocks dramatically outperformed the index.
- The average annualized return of individual stocks was negative 1.06%, while the median was a more modest 5.1%. However, 25% of stocks were responsible for all of the market's gains.
- The distribution of returns is characterized as "fat tailed", with a small number of stocks delivering outsized gains and losses, challenging the assumption of a normal distribution.
