Mobile technology is dramatically impacting organizations in the following ways:
1) Mobile data usage has skyrocketed in recent years and will continue to grow exponentially, with mobile video becoming the dominant type of mobile data traffic by 2015.
2) Smartphones and tablets are ushering in a new "post-PC" era of ubiquitous, portable, and personalized computing that is optimized for touch interfaces.
3) To take advantage of these trends, organizations need to develop mobile strategies that include mobile device management, support for bring your own devices (BYOD), prioritizing mobile-optimized content and applications, and enabling mobile collaboration and communication.
Three major societal shifts are affecting technology planning and strategy: 1) The evolution of networks as both people and technology change how information is communicated and shared in networked ways, 2) The evolution of content from static and top-down to dynamic and user-generated, and 3) The evolution of personal technologies from large stationary devices to small portable devices with exponentially greater capabilities. These shifts require organizations to reconsider their approaches to marketing, content development, and technology planning.

Mobile devices have evolved significantly over time, driven by advances in both technology and how people communicate. Content is increasingly user-generated rather than top-down, and consumed on personal mobile devices rather than desktop computers. Most mobile users now access the internet primarily through apps rather than mobile web browsers. When developing for mobile, key considerations include the mobile mindset of prioritizing user needs, deciding between apps and responsive web design, optimizing content for smaller screens, and accounting for mobile contexts like location, movement, and device capabilities. Associations can leverage location-based services and design with mobility in mind.

It argues that parallel programming is difficult but necessary for the future, and that open collaboration is needed to train developers and create parallel algorithms and software stacks.
Wearable computers are computers that are worn on the body and are useful for applications where hands are busy. They operate continuously and are always ready to interact. Early wearables challenged other PCs in the 1970s by running on batteries. They have six key attributes including being unrestrictive to the user and attentive to the environment. Applications include assistance for the blind and augmented reality. Disadvantages include short battery life and potential illegal or anti-social uses. IBM introduced a wearable PC in the late 1990s with specifications including a 233MHz processor, 64MB RAM, and 340MB hard drive.
Packet switching is a digital networking method that groups all transmitted data into packets. When packets traverse network nodes like routers, they are buffered and queued, resulting in variable delay and throughput depending on traffic load. There are two major packet switching modes: connectionless uses complete addressing in each packet and connection-oriented uses a preallocated connection identifier. Circuit switching establishes a dedicated communications channel through the network for constant bit rate and delay between nodes during a session. It guarantees full bandwidth but is less flexible than packet switching.

Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. High performance Serverless Java on AWS- GoTo Amsterdam 2024Vadym Kazulkin
Java is for many years one of the most popular programming languages, but it used to have hard times in the Serverless community. Java is known for its high cold start times and high memory footprint, comparing to other programming languages like Node.js and Python. In this talk I'll look at the general best practices and techniques we can use to decrease memory consumption, cold start times for Java Serverless development on AWS including GraalVM (Native Image) and AWS own offering SnapStart based on Firecracker microVM snapshot and restore and CRaC (Coordinated Restore at Checkpoint) runtime hooks. I'll also provide a lot of benchmarking on Lambda functions trying out various deployment package sizes, Lambda memory settings, Java compilation options and HTTP (a)synchronous clients and measure their impact on cold and warm start times.
This talk will cover ScyllaDB Architecture from the cluster-level view and zoom in on data distribution and internal node architecture. In the process, we will learn the secret sauce used to get ScyllaDB's high availability and superior performance. We will also touch on the upcoming changes to ScyllaDB architecture, moving to strongly consistent metadata and tablets.

"NATO Hackathon Winner: AI-Powered Drug Search", Taras KlobaFwdays
This is a session that details how PostgreSQL's features and Azure AI Services can be effectively used to significantly enhance the search functionality in any application.
In this session, we'll share insights on how we used PostgreSQL to facilitate precise searches across multiple fields in our mobile application. The techniques include using LIKE and ILIKE operators and integrating a trigram-based search to handle potential misspellings, thereby increasing the search accuracy.
We'll also discuss how the azure_ai extension on PostgreSQL databases in Azure and Azure AI Services were utilized to create vectors from user input, a feature beneficial when users wish to find specific items based on text prompts. While our application's case study involves a drug search, the techniques and principles shared in this session can be adapted to improve search functionality in a wide range of applications. Join us to learn how PostgreSQL and Azure AI can be harnessed to enhance your application's search capability.
AppSec PNW: Android and iOS Application Security with MobSFAjin Abraham
Mobile Security Framework - MobSF is a free and open source automated mobile application security testing environment designed to help security engineers, researchers, developers, and penetration testers to identify security vulnerabilities, malicious behaviours and privacy concerns in mobile applications using static and dynamic analysis. It supports all the popular mobile application binaries and source code formats built for Android and iOS devices. In addition to automated security assessment, it also offers an interactive testing environment to build and execute scenario based test/fuzz cases against the application.
This talk covers:
Using MobSF for static analysis of mobile applications.
Interactive dynamic security assessment of Android and iOS applications.
Solving Mobile app CTF challenges.
Reverse engineering and runtime analysis of Mobile malware.
How to shift left and integrate MobSF/mobsfscan SAST and DAST in your build pipeline.
In the realm of cybersecurity, offensive security practices act as a critical shield. By simulating real-world attacks in a controlled environment, these techniques expose vulnerabilities before malicious actors can exploit them. This proactive approach allows manufacturers to identify and fix weaknesses, significantly enhancing system security.
This presentation delves into the development of a system designed to mimic Galileo's Open Service signal using software-defined radio (SDR) technology. We'll begin with a foundational overview of both Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and the intricacies of digital signal processing.
The presentation culminates in a live demonstration. We'll showcase the manipulation of Galileo's Open Service pilot signal, simulating an attack on various software and hardware systems. This practical demonstration serves to highlight the potential consequences of unaddressed vulnerabilities, emphasizing the importance of offensive security practices in safeguarding critical infrastructure.

16. This is Different!!!
I’m not sure what it is but the simplicity of the apps seems to get
people considering what apps might exist and what apps need to be
created. The other thing about these devices is that they are all
about customization. Most desktops and laptops do not
encourage people to do much beyond using the software
outside of the default installation. The average user doesn’t seek
to tweak and tinker. The iPad is all about tinkering.
17. This is Different!!!
But the very simplicity of the iPad masks its
transformational power. Some say the iPad
heralds a new era of computing, and I'm inclined
to believe them.
The interface is so intuitive—navigating with your
fingers rather than a keyboard and mouse—that it
will change what we expect from our computers.
Today we talk about "getting on the Internet," but
with iPad you can have a persistent online
connection, and that's a pretty profound shift.

34. Mobile: Are you optimized for Mobile?
A recent study from Ruder Finn revealed
that Americans are spending nearly three
hours per day on their mobile phones..
…perhaps the most interesting finding
from the new data is the fact that more
people are using the mobile web to
socialize (91%) compared to the 79% of
desktop users who do the same.
It appears that the mobile phone is
actually a better platform for social
networking than the PC.
37. Website Usability on Mobile Devices
Mobile Design = Small and Targeted
To have a successful mobile site or app, the obvious guideline is to
design for the small screen. Sadly, some don't, and we still see users
struggle to hit tiny areas that are much smaller than their fingers.
The second point is more conceptual — and harder for some people to
accept: When you have a smaller screen, you must limit the number
of features to those that matter the most for the mobile use case.
Mobile Usability Update, Jakob Nielsen, 9/26/11
38. Website Usability on Mobile Devices
Measured usability varied substantially, depending on whether people used a
mobile site or a full website.
• Mobile site success rate: 64%
• Full site success rate: 58%
This leads to the first, and maybe most important, guideline for improving the
mobile user experience: design a separate mobile site.
Apps Beat Sites
While a mobile site is good, a mobile app is even better. We measured a
success rate of 76% when people used mobile apps
(The exception would be people using large-sized tablets like the iPad. Our
separate studies of iPad users show that they do fairly well browsing full sites.)
Mobile Usability Update, Jakob Nielsen, 9/26/11

commerce and chipping

traffic coming from PC's. Simplify the Layout
Even if your desktop site's design renders properly on tablets, that
doesn't mean the battle is won.
Ditch the Flash
No matter where you stand on the mobile Flash debate, it's hard to
deny that more open standards like HTML5 and JavaScript can
accomplish most of what Flash does. Apple's iPad is overwhelmingly
dominant in this space for the time being, so we have to play by their
rules, to some extent.
Make the User Interface App-Like
Consider building a tablet-specific version of your site that utilizes
some of the more app-like interface elements like subtle animations
and a navigation that responds to finger-swiping.

42. Mobile is Different!
“The desktop environment is like a carp in a
bathtub: It grows till it fills all available space,”
says Luke Wroblewski, who was chief product
officer and co-founder of Bagcheck.com. The
same goes for Web pages, he adds, and as a
result, the screen gets cluttered with irrelevant
data that can distract or frustrate end users.
45. Cloud Computing
Cloud computing
The delivery of computing as a service
rather than a product, whereby shared
resources, software, and information are
provided to computers and other devices as
a metered service over a network (typically
the Internet).
48. Cloud Computing
Software as a Service (SaaS)
Cloud application services or "Software as a Service (SaaS)" deliver software as a
service over the Internet, eliminating the need to install and run the application on the
customer's own computers and simplifying maintenance and support.
49. Cloud Computing
Platform as a Service (PaaS)
PaaS solutions are development platforms for which the
development tool itself is hosted in the cloud and accessed
through a browser. With PaaS, developers can build web
applications without installing any tools on their computer and
then deploy those applications without any specialized systems
administration skills.
50. Cloud Computing
Infrastructure as a Service" (IaaS)
Cloud infrastructure services, also known as “Infrastructure as a Service"
(IaaS), deliver computer infrastructure – typically a platform virtualization
environment – as a service, along with raw (block) storage and networking.
Rather than purchasing servers, software, data-center space or network
equipment, clients instead buy those resources as a fully outsourced
service.
52. Cloud Computing
Pros
• Eliminate or reduce capital investments in
infrastructure
• Scalability – up or down
• Speed to market
Cons
• Security
• Application Integration
• Privacy Compliance
55. Social Networking
The world is changing the way it communicates.
The world is changing the way content is
created, filtered, consumed, shared, rated……
That’s what this is REALLY all about!
There is a group of folks, largely (but
not entirely) defined by generation,
who communicate differently. They
have always communicated
differently. They live their lives out
loud!
That’s what this is REALLY all about!

59. Social Networking
The average age of social network
users rose between 2008 and 2010,
according to data from the Pew

Life Project. For example, the
percentage of social network users
age 18-22 fell 43%, from 28% to 16%.
Percentage of SocNet Users 36 and Up Rises
In addition, the percentage of social network users age 23-35 dropped 20%, from 40% to 32%. Meanwhile, the
percentage of users age 36-49 rose 18%, from 22% to 26%. Most significantly, the percentage of users age

This sounds like a basic concept, yet
it seems that most organizations do
not have a concise list of what they

social tech; all they have is a fuzzy

65. Integration
Social media can not be an island in your organization.
How will your new media strategy support and
enhance your existing Internet strategy (email,
website, search engine, etc)?
66. Social Networking
Make sure your website and social “stuff” are
integrated.
Social media shouldn’t stand on its own. Sustainable social media strategy
means that your entire web presence (including social media profiles and
activities) ARE your website. It’s not just your URL now.
But remember….
Website = Destination Social Media = Conversation
About You About Them
The Rules Are Different!!
But they should be connected!
