What is Technology?
The branch of knowledge that deals with the
creation and use of technical means and their
interrelation with life, society, and the
environment, drawing upon such subjects as
industrial arts, engineering, applied science,
and pure science.
What is Social Isolation ?
Social isolation refers to a complete or near-
complete lack of contact with society. It is
usually involuntary, making it distinct from
isolating tendencies or actions taken by an
individual who is seeking to distance himself
from society.

What is Neurosis (Social)?
A mental and emotional disorder that affects
only part of the personality, is accompanied by
a less distorted perception of reality than in a
psychosis, does not result in disturbance of the
use of language, and is accompanied by various
physical, physiological, and mental
disturbances (as visceral symptoms, anxieties,
or phobias).

Fun Facts About Technology!
Introduction
These days when people get together for lunch,
most of the time is spent looking or using your
phone. Technology may produce more connection,
but not in a face to face interaction. This generation
has caused people to become less capable of having
the ability to be socially active. “Humans are meant
to be social creatures, but technology would cut
this off from them and perform all of their tasks for
them.”(Isolation, n.d.).

/lack-of-interaction.html
Types of Technologies that Influence
Social Isolation
Some particular types of technology that will
effect social isolation would include;
Computers, Cellphones, IPad/tablets, Head
sets/bluetooth, Television and Video Games
Social Isolation
Technology influences a major part as to why people isolate themselves from friends,
family and particular situations. When using any type of device people tend to avoid
contact and interaction for a extended period of time. Social settings involve more
time spend on either a mobile phone, social media or in front of a screen of some
sort.
“The circle of close friends for mobile phone users tends to be 12 percent larger than
for nonusers. People who share online photos or instant messages have 9 percent
larger social circles than nonusers.”(Olsen, 2009).
“According to research from the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life
Project, 69% of online adults use social networking sites, while fully 92% of those aged
18-29 age group use these sites (as of August 2012). In Canada 60% of online
Canadians (or 50% of all Canadians) now have a social networking profile.”(Grand,
2013).
Statistics
• “Out of the world’s estimated 7 billion people, 6 billion have access
to mobile phones. Only 4.5 billion have access to working toilets.”
(Wang, 2013)
• “67% of cell owners find themselves checking their phone for
messages, alerts, or calls — even when they don’t notice their
phone ringing or vibrating.”(Fact Sheet, 2014)
• “44% of cell owners have slept with their phone next to their bed
because they wanted to make sure they didn’t miss any calls, text
messages, or other updates during the night.”(Fact Sheet, 2014)
• “29% of cell owners describe their cell phone as “something they
can’t imagine living without.”(Fact Sheet, 2014)
Examples of Social Media
• Facebook
The name of a social networking site (SNS) that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them.
People use Facebook to keep in touch with friends, post photos, share links and exchange other information. Facebook users can
see only the profiles of confirmed friends and the people in their networks.
• Instagram
For millions of people, Instagram is a tool to share photos with friends and strangers alike, but for some, Instagram is the ultimate
form of modern personal expression.
• Twitter
Twitter is an online service that allows you to share updates with other users by answering one simple question: "What are you
doing?"
• Snap Chat
SnapChat is an application developed by Daniel Smith and his team at Stanford University that enables users to take pictures and
record videos then, if desired, add captions to them and send them to selected individuals.
SnapChat allows users to take pictures and videos called "snaps." Users can set a time limit, after which the picture or the video is
removed from the SnapChat server and the recipient’s device. This provides security for users who are concerned their images
may be stored on the Internet or used without their permission.

pro’s and con’s of social media.

Symptoms of Neurosis
• Depending on the person everyone is different and will have different symptoms that are
considered with a neurosis or neurotic disorder. When someone experiences symptoms of a
neurosis or a neurotic disorder it will most likely lead to severe enough results that give some
difficulties with interpersonal relationships. Some particular symptoms people may witness are;
 Excessive anxiety.
 Fear.
 Complaints of physical symptoms that do not appear to have a medical cause.
 Which include palpitations, rapid heart rate, hyperventilation, muscle pain, abdominal pain,
headache, numbness and tingling.
“They can also result in such symptoms as low self esteem, anger, irritability, obsessive thoughts,
obsessive behaviors, dependency and perfectionism.”(Symptoms, 2014).
http://www.rightdiagnosis.com/n/neurosis/intro.htm
Questions to Consider
Here is a list of questions to ask yourself if you ever have to
experience neurosis or symptom’s leading in that direction.
 What am I afraid of?
 What are some factors in my life that may be changing my moods?
 What am I attached to getting or proving?
 What am I trying to control?
 What do I think I am entitled to?
 How can my fear and defensiveness become love and openness?
 How can my attachment turn into letting go?
 Commitment: What spiritual work do we need to do in order to put ourselves in a situation where we are around loving
people attuned to our needs?
Conclusion
It would be impossible to imagine this world without technology
and other sources available to us. Our society benefits from
technology in many ways including the business industry. It is
important that we maintain control and continue to monitor our
children while using all sources of technology advancement. I
have provided basic information regarding social isolation and
neurosis to help people have a better understanding of this
particular topic. Viewers should take the time to really think
about how much valuable time is spent on social media and
mobile devices etc. You only live once, so we should use our
time wisely by making new memories.
