TechGYRLS is a free program for girls ages 9-14 held at YWCA Parks Francis Center that introduces girls to technical concepts through hands-on projects using software like SketchUp. In July and August, girls will use SketchUp to build a 3D model of the Grainger Supply warehouse in Pilsen over four sessions - touring the facility, learning SketchUp, using it to construct the warehouse, and presenting their final models. The goal is to cultivate interest in STEAM careers among girls. For more information or to register, call 773-496-5257.
TechGYRLS will take their robotics skill sets to the next level by learning and applying
simple electronic circuitry principles and theory to construct spider-bots that uses
electromagnetic force, current and conductivity to operate.
TechGYRLS Jitterbug prepares students for careers with real-life applications and
provides an opportunity to learn about Science and Engineering, while adding an element
of fun.
TechGYRLS Got Game is an 8-week gaming session allowing students to create a simple beta-version games while:
•Learning project management
•Being mentored by today’s gaming experts
•Utilizing latest gaming software
•Gaining real-time feedback across platforms

HackSIP is a beginner hackathon for underrepresented middle and high school girls. Participants will use a Micro:bit to learn computer science (CS) fundamentals with hands-on, project-based activities. After the program, students will be invited to continue to expand their programming knowledge by participating in additional, skill-evolving CS activities. This is the newsletter, created for the volunteers, that evolved out of HackSIP activities.
NMC Horizon Report: 2013 Museum Edition PresentationAlex Freeman
This Museum Computer Network 2013 session showcased emerging technologies and their applications in interpretation and museum education as cited in the NMC Horizon Report > 2013 Museum Edition from the New Media Consortium.
Today, more than ever before, maps are being used to bring data to life. In this presentation I will demonstrate how geoviz can make data science more tangible by providing an interactive canvas for spatial data. Gregory Brunner will shows several examples of how maps are being used enhance how we communicate data and how this applies across all scales, including spatial, temporal, and size of data.
The 8th OTA will be held at St. John’s Hoxton, in the
heart of London’s creative, tech & start-up scene. This
unique tech-agnostic event for 500+ developers,
designers, & entrepreneurs features a two-day workshop
programme delivered by the community for the
community – technical sessions & hands-on tutorials
where attendees learn about new tech, tools, platforms
& techniques. Attendees are invited to stay overnight to
work on ideas for the various Hack Day competition
categories and demo them on the 2nd day. It’s a great
vibe of bean bags, gadgets, knowledge sharing, hacking
& relaxed fun.
A Creative Technologies Graduate backed by successful training period as a Graphic designer with first hand experience in Multimedia - Web design, Graphic design seeking full – time opportunities as an Entry Level Creative technologist
