Computer-mediated communication (CMC) refers to any human communication that occurs through electronic devices connected over the internet or network. CMC allows communication across distances and time zones without constraints. It facilitates online communities for people with shared interests regardless of location. While CMC has advantages like increased access, interaction and cultural awareness, it also has limitations such as lack of nonverbal cues, safety/privacy issues, and requiring necessary communication skills. CMC has important applications in education by providing opportunities for online learning, networking and reaching students globally.
