Executive
summary
The
average
worldwide
temperature
is
increasing,
while
the
global
population
is
expected
to
consist
of
city
dwellers
at
75%
in
20504
.
Bologna
is
already
facing
climate
challenge5
,
forced
to
deal
with
heat
waves
and
heavy
rains.
Bolognina
neighbourhood
is
moreover
affected
by
social
issues
such
as
low
income/
immigrant
population,
bad
reputation,
visual
degradation
and
lacking
safe
public
spaces.
It
also
burdens
on
the
Municipality
budget
due
to
the
low
energy
efficiency
of
the
building
stock6
. Strategies
are
to
be
elaborated
to
start
transformation
of
the
existing
non
resilient
neighbourhood
into
a
resilient
one.
The
two
strategies
suggested
for
the
pilot
project
should
deal
both
with
the
physical
dimension
and
the
social
one,
and
are
the
following:
▪ Transform
Via
F.
Albani
into
a
lively
and
greener
zone,
exhibiting
temporary
street
designs,
to
serve
as
socializing
space
but
also
as
a
real
model
of
good
quality
of
life.
It
will
reinforce
pedestrian
priority
and
encourage
low
speeds
car
mobility,
improving
the
linkage
of
the
bicycle
lanes;
thus
redesigning
the
streetscape
with
more
spaces
for
people
will
allow
for
experiencing
what
a
safe
place
is
and
will
start
conversation
about
lacking
environmental
awareness.
▪ Turn
the
area
around
Mercatino
Francesco
Albani
periodically
into
a
venue
for
the
different
edutainment
initiatives.
It
will
become
a
replicable
process
aiming
at
raising
awareness
about
climate
change
and
resilience.
Held
in
the
sidewalks
of
Via
Albani
as
a
street
science-­‐divulgation
event,
it
has
a
potential
to
get
sponsored
by
private
companies.
Being
a
“pop-­‐up
lecturer”
or
"do-­‐it-­‐yourself"
designer
should
become
viral
as
more
and
more
volunteers
will
be
willing
to
perform
as
“agent
of
change”.
The
project
will
bring
knowledge
within
people’s
everyday
habitat
and
encourage
them
to
immediately
apply
their
new
knowledge
and
skills,
involving
their
relatives
and
neighbors,
and
spreading
physically
into
the
space
between
buildings.
