To teach elementary level music education in a classroom environment at a public or private school site.

• Create lessons for, and teach music lessons integrating music skills and core curricular skills to Pre-K
through 5th
grade students in public elementary school. Using state standards and the M.U.S.I.C.
Foundation’s skills based curriculum, plan the arc of lessons for the year, setting and reaching goals for
progress and student learning.
• Teach students to read music and play instruments, primarily keyboard, but also including hand percussion
and Orff instruments.
• Coordinate with classroom teachers and the school principal to plan and conduct rehearsals for assemblies
and school wide performances incorporating all students. Present two Professional Development sessions
each year to the classroom teachers on various subjects connecting music and core classroom disciplines.
• Create and implement discipline plans with clear goals and consequences using positive discipline
techniques and clear classroom rules.
• Conduct regular observations of the other Teaching Artists employed by the MUSIC Foundation. Give
constructive feedback in both verbal and written form, and assist them to improve their teaching skills.
Provide critiques and feedback of submitted lesson plans and provide suggestions of possible content as
needed.
• Create teaching materials and a Teacher’s Handbook for the use of Teaching Artists.
• Assist with and attend functions with the M.U.S.I.C. Foundation promoting its programs and connecting
with community resources. Assist in writing grants and reaching out to funding sources

• With 2 others, re-write and re-format the ETM curriculum to expand from its “Beginning, intermediate,
advanced” format to a K-8 specific curriculum. Assign the content area skills to each grade level, and write
all application suggestions for each skill for the K-3 portion of the curriculum. Assigned cross curricular
skill areas to each skill, and associated each with the appropriate NYC State Standards for Music.

• Travel to MATB School sites on a weekly basis. Assist the on-site music teacher in implementing the
MATB curriculum for keyboard education. Assist in the lesson implementation and hands-on with the
students.
• Assist in the administrative office of MATB, assembling feedback from the school sites and teachers into the
Teacher’s Manuel for MATB. Assist in recording the accompanying CDs for the MATB curriculum.
• Assist in planning and presenting MATB training sessions for NYC public school teachers.
