Teacher's Day in Ecuador is celebrated annually on April 13th in honor of Juan Montalvo, an Ecuadorian novelist and teacher born on that date in 1832. The day was established in 1920 by President Alfredo Baquerizo Moreno to pay tribute to Montalvo and other great educators in Ecuador's history. Some suggested activities for students to show appreciation for their teachers on this day include making posters, videos, crafts, cards, or collages with memories and messages of gratitude. Teacher's Day is also celebrated in Spain on November 27th in honor of Saint José de Calasanz, a priest and founder of the first popular Christian school in Europe.
