African elephants are found in flooded grasslands and savannahs and tropical forests in Africa. Their population is estimated between 470,000-690,000 and they are threatened by poaching and habitat loss. African elephants can be identified by their brownish-gray skin, males standing up to 3.6 meters tall and weighing 5,400 kilograms while females are 3 meters tall weighing 4,600 kilograms. They have large molars that can weigh up to 5 kilograms, are 30 centimeters long and are replaced six times, and males also have tusks that can weigh up to 45 kilograms.
