should read the question paper and, if you wish, make annotations on the question paper.
However, you are not allowed, under any circumstances, to open the answer book and start
writing or use your calculator during this reading time.
2. Number of questions on paper - 8.
3. FIVE questions ONLY to be answered.
4. Each question carries 20 marks.
5. Begin each answer on a fresh page.

INVIGILATOR.

1. Good managerial decision-making in business organizations is important.
Required:
(a) State any five reasons to demonstrate that information is an essential input into the
decision-making process. 10 Marks
(b) In order for information to be valuable for decision-making, it should fulfill a
number of conditions.
State the five conditions. 10 Marks

2. (a) Mention two reasons why process theories of motivation are better than content
theories of motivation. 2 Marks
(b) Explain three differences between motivators and hygiene factors, according to
Herzberg’s two factor theory. 6 Marks
(c) Nowadays promotion opportunities are becoming more and more limited as
organizations are becoming flatter and smaller to ensure cost-effectiveness and
adaptation.
Required:
Explain six ways in which managers can still motivate the workforce despite this
situation. 12 Marks

3. (a) State any two reasons why leadership is important to organizational success.
2 Marks
(b) Explain any four differences between leadership and management. 8 Marks
(c) Explain one way in which each of the following factors can influence a leader’s
choice of appropriate leadership style:

(ii) Type of subordinates 2 Marks
(iii) Economy 2 Marks
(iv) Type of task at hand 2 Marks
(v) Time 2 Marks

4. (a) State any five benefits to an employee of cohesive workgroup. 10 Marks
(b) Explain any five ways in which a manager can increase the cohesiveness of a
workgroup. 10 Marks

5. Most modern organizations are shifting away from classical towards modern approaches to
job design.
Required:
(a) Describe four modern approaches to job design. 8 Marks
(b) Give one advantage and one disadvantage of each modern approach to job design,
mentioned in (a), above. 8 Marks
(c) Mention four disadvantages of classical approach to job design. 4 Marks

6. (a) Describe the stages of a staff meeting. 8 Marks
(b) State two roles that each of the following persons play for a successful staff meeting:
(i) Chairperson 2 Marks
(ii) Secretary 2 Marks
(iii) Members 2 Marks
(iv) Convener/Initiator 2 Marks
(c) Mention two advantages and two disadvantages of a staff meeting. 4 Marks

7. (a) Explain five benefits of performance appraisal to an organization. 10 Marks
(b) Describe five challenges associated with performance appraisal. 10 Marks

8. Communication is the process of creating, transmitting and interpreting ideas, facts,
