Value added tax (1)
VAT is a tax on goods and services charged by registered taxpayers in Kenya. The main laws governing VAT include the VAT Act 2013 and Tax Procedures Act 2015. VAT returns must be filed monthly by the 20th of each month via the iTax system. Taxable supplies are subject to either a 16% standard rate, 8% rate for petroleum products, or 0% rate for exports and certain supplies. Registered businesses must maintain records and are subject to collection and enforcement measures if VAT obligations are not met.
TDS NEW SYSTEM
The notification provides amendments to certain rules under the Income Tax Act of 1961 relating to time and mode of payment of tax deducted at source (TDS) or collected at source (TCS), certificates for TDS and TCS, and quarterly statement filings. Key changes include:
1) TDS/TCS to be paid within a prescribed time period from the month of deduction/collection electronically through specified modes.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) issued a draft circular clarifying that no interest under section 234A of the Income Tax Act should be charged on self-assessment tax paid before the due date for filing a tax return. Previously, interest was charged on self-assessment tax even if paid before the due date. The CBDT reviewed this after the Supreme Court ruled that interest under section 234A should only apply to tax amounts unpaid before the due date. Therefore, the CBDT decided that no interest will be charged under section 234A on self-assessment tax paid before the due date for filing a return.

Due dates extension, waiver in late fee & interest

COVID-19 on GST
Since we all knows due to Covid19 all world including our India is in terror of serious attack of this Global Mahamari. This is the first time in my lifetime i found India is totally locked up, Railway is totally locked up, all shops markets and even educational institutions are closed.
Due to this lockdown in India, major impact on all businessmen are zero sales, zero collections, intact fixed expenses such as salaries, rent, interest on loan and other fixed charges. Inspite of this, businessmen have to comply all tax compliances such as payment of TDS, GST and filing of their respective returns. In this document we shall discuss some changes and relaxation given by the Government in due dates for payment and filing of returns under GST (Goods and Services Tax) which are as follows:
CBDT extends the due date for filing of TDS statement in Form 24Q to 30th Jun...
In another major decision, the CBDT (Central Board of Direct Taxes) has extended the due date for TDS filing- Form 24Q i.e. quarterly TDS statement in respect of salaries for the financial year 2018-19 from May 31, 2019 to June 30, 2019.
COVID-19 IMPACT ON CORPORATE
The Finance Minister announced several relief measures across various sectors in view of the COVID-19 outbreak. Key measures included extending income tax return and other statutory filing deadlines to June 30th, 2020 and reducing interest rates on delayed tax and GST payments during this period. The measures also provided relief for companies by extending MCA filing deadlines and relaxing certain corporate compliance requirements. Relief was also provided for customs, financial services, fisheries, and commerce sectors by extending statutory timelines.

Here are the steps to calculate income tax for the given total incomes:
1. Total income of Rs. 2,88,000:
- Income up to Rs. 2,50,000 is tax exempt
- Taxable income = Rs. 2,88,000 - Rs. 2,50,000 = Rs. 38,000
- Tax on Rs. 38,000 at 5% slab = Rs. 1,900
- Add education cess @ 4% of Rs. 1,900 = Rs. 76
- Total tax payable = Rs. 1,900 + Rs. 76 = Rs. 1,976
2. Total income of Rs. 7,00,000

Extension of Due Dates for Various Compliances /notices/orders/appeals/reports/any other document by taxpayer where the due date was between 20th March 2020 to 29th June 2020 shall be extended to 30th June 2020, and all Investments/ Saving Instruments for rebates can be made by 30th June 2020.
