2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
2. Our idea :Our idea for our video is to have a house party. We
want to take shots of people having fun and enjoying
them selves because the choice of our song for the
video is very upbeat so we wanted our video to match
with the song of out choice. We are also going to
include props such as beer goggles, fancy dress masks
and hats to make our video fun and entertaining.
3. Song :The song we chose was called turn it around by Sub Focus. We
chose that song because it is very relevant to our video idea and
our target audience. As a group this was also a song that we all
easily agreed on.
4. Location :The location we chose was to do it at Megan
Copeland’s house as we wanted our party to be in a
house. To create a more ‘party’ atmosphere we
invited quite a few people in a small space so it looked
like there was more people than there really was.
5. Camera:The chosen camera we are using to film our video is the
Nikon D310. we will take zoom shots, panning shots and
high angle shots. We will be taking quite natural shots of
people enjoying them selves and moments where they
least expect to be recorded because we don’t want it to
look like it’s all been set up. We want it to look real.
6. People:There will be around 20 people there, a mixture of girls
and boys and our selves will be in the video too.
7. Props:To make our video more of a party environment we think it
will be good to add some props so we will use thing like
fancy dress masks, cups, beer goggles and alcohol. By doing
this it will not look like a serious video set up more like a
party atmosphere.
