Red Back acquired the Tasiast Gold Mine in 2007 and expanded the processing plant from 1.25 to 2.5 MTPA under a contract with SENET. SENET completed the engineering design, procurement, and construction management for the expansion, which included upgrading the crushing circuit, adding a mill feed bin, gravity circuit, pre-leach facility, and reconfiguring the elution circuit. The majority of equipment was sourced from South Africa and construction was managed locally using expatriate contractors. The expansion increased throughput to 2.5 million tonnes per annum and was completed in 2009.
